1 Club Business MEET THE CANDIDATES Friday, January 13, :00-7:00 PM Join us for an informal Meet & Greet in the Mixed Grill Prime Rib dinner special starting at 6pm. Please RSVP for dinner to Will Perkins at as we expect a full house. Candidates Ken Jordan My interest in golf started in college with a job as groundskeeper at the University of Georgia s golf course. It s been a passion for the past 40 years. I joined Berkeley Hills five years ago, and not many days go by that I am not at the course. I frequently accompany prospective new members on their trial rounds, and I have provided my graphics expertise on special projects such as the club s web site photography and the design and production of the course tee markers. I ve owned my own graphic arts business since landing in Atlanta in the late 1970s, with initial contracts in specialty advertising for Coca Cola and a large initiative for the 1984 World s Fair. I met my wife, Carol, when she was visiting relatives next door to me, and we moved with our son Preston to Norcross in My professional work spans multiple arts mediums and platforms - from silk-screening on defense industry electronic cabinetry, to project design and implementation (such as the Old Cotton Gin in downtown Norcross), to print design and production. For the past two years, significant energy has gone to helping my son Preston launch his own specialty graphics company. I regularly remind weather detractors that when it comes to golf there s no such thing as inclement weather, just improper attire. We are fortunate to have at Berkeley Hills all the ingredients for a stellar golf club that is active year round. My passion for the game, love of the Berkeley Hills community, and small business/marketing background bring well-rounded perspective and strength to the Board in its quest for operational excellence. Steve Kindrick I was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN. I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (B.S. in Chemical Engineering). I have lived in Atlanta since I spent the first 20 years of my career working in various Operations/ Manufacturing positions for Procter and Gamble, Frito-Lay and Reckitt & Colman. In 1997 I went into business for myself and started a promotional products manufacturing company named Leprechaun Promotions. We have now been in business almost 20 years and currently employ around 50 people at peak times in our plant in Norcross. This experience has allowed me to get involved in everything from marketing plans to bank loans and I believe I am pretty well-versed in how to make a small/emerging business grow and succeed. I have been a member of BHCC for about 8 years. In the last year I have become active with the Senior Men s Group at the club, including being Match Play captain for 2016 and My wife Leneta is a very active member of the WGA and an avid golfer as well. Fun fact about myself: in my 20 s and early 30 s I was a competitive sailboat racer, twice racing in the national championship regatta for the Snipe class. I think BHCC is a great club. I have made many friends here, I love the course, I like the people and the staff and I truly believe our club is an underappreciated gem. I believe I can offer some good insights if elected to serve on the board, and I am ready to take on the responsibility if elected. Gary Young My wife, Connie, and I have been members of Berkeley since April, We have been married 43 years and are the proud parents of 3 grown children (1 son and 2 daughters). We are also grandparents (Gram and Papa) to our 6 grandchildren. Both of us grew up near Columbus, OH, and moved to Atlanta in I was born and raised on a farm in Ohio. I graduated from Miami of Ohio with a B.S. in engineering. I also hold an Executive M.B.A. from Ohio University. After college, I served briefly in the US Air Force and was stationed in California. I started my professional career with NCR Corp., in Ohio, and have been an employee of The Cash for 40+ years. Currently, I am a Managing Partner responsible for leading and operating a successful professional service practice of industry consultants that design and implement point of sale systems for transacting consumer sales for leading fortune 500 retailers. Having served as a volunteer on the Membership and House committees during the last 5 years, I feel I am familiar with most of the club s departments and operations. My reasons for running for the Board of Governors are many but here a few: 1. I have enjoyed the activities that are available and believe that I have a sense of duty to give back to Berkeley Hills and keep it one of the best clubs in the area. 2. Berkeley Hills is one of the best golf courses in metro Atlanta. Our clubhouse, pool, and tennis facilities are special assets that we need to maintain and maximize. 3. While the economics are not favorable for private clubs at this time, I believe I can participate to help the Board manage the direction of the Club and support the membership. 4. It is important for the new Board to remain focused on the club capital improvement plan and monitor expenses. 5. I believe we are on the right track and I hope to contribute to the success of BHCC. I am asking for your support and vote during the upcoming election.
2 Club Business Cont. Annual Meeting Southern Buffet Friday, January 27, 2017 Welcome new Members! 7:00 pm Voting will start at 5:00pm and continue until 7pm on the 27th. Proxy voting will also be available in the Business Office beginning Tuesday, January 17th. Questions for the Board will not be taken from the floor the night of the meeting but may be sent to Shawn McKinnon at berkeleyhillscc.org until 5pm on January 20. These questions will be answered at the meeting. Voting Member Requirements: Primary member on the membership. Must be a member a minimum of 5 years as of January 1, 2017 and in good standing with the Club. Non-resident and Limited Social members are not eligible to vote. Club Closing Date s to remember The Club House will be closed on Tuesday, January 5th - Thursday, January 7th for annual cleaning and renovations. This means that the only food and beverage service available will be out of the Bunker from 11:00-6:00pm with a limited menu. The Men s & Ladies Locker Rooms and the Fitness Center may have periodic interruptions due to cleaning of the floors, showers and painting. The way this fall has gone the weather may delay the annual spraying we do each year in January. This is the time of the year that we begin to spray Round-Up on the entire course for Poa annua. As long as you have a warm season grass that has gone dormant, you can spray for it also. The way we spray it will be different than you do at your house just because we use a large machine. If you want to get rid of the winter weeds, add a ½ ounce of Round-Up per gallon of water in your backpack sprayer or hand-held sprayer. When you spray it, act like you are painting a wall and make one swath across the weed. This will keep the chemical from running down the plant and damaging your grass. If you drench it, you will probably see a dead spot come this spring. Once you finish this process, find you a pre-emergent to apply so the weeds will not come back. If you have any questions, please contact me and I can demonstrate it for you and also let you know if it is the right time to do it. Chris Purvis From the Superintendent Alexander Frankel Richard & Tara Ryan Larry & Leslie Englander Andy & Nora McCulloch
