1 Dear Berkeley Hills Country Club Member, The Board of Governors wants to keep you up-to-date on the many different capital projects to improve and maintain Berkeley Hills for the membership that are part of the refinancing of the Club that was recently approved. Just over $100 thousand of the planned $600 thousand of capital jobs are already complete. These include the purchase of replacement of obsolete equipment for Grounds to maintain the golf course, resurfacing of four hard tennis courts and two clay courts, the striping of the parking lot, new mats for the range and a range ball picker. There are many other projects that will be completed over the winter months and throughout the Spring and Summer. Some of the bigger projects include the removal of silt from the lake on number four, the replacement of the cart path behind the green on number three as well as the concrete portions of path on numbers one, nine and ten, the painting of the exterior of the Club House, refinishing of the tables and chairs in the Mixed, refinishing of the chairs at the pool and purchase of new umbrellas, renovation of the Bunker, new cooking equipment in the Kitchen, leveling of many tees on the course and driving range and also bringing the collars around the greens back to level. All projects should be completed prior to the end of These projects are a key part of the effort to make Berkeley Hills flourish and grow. Leaf blower Initial financing for the projects is complete. A new 25 year mortgage is in place for $1.9 million. The new mortgage interest rate is one percent less than the previous three year mortgage. Cash flow for the club is improved by almost $2 thousand per month with the new mortgage versus the old mortgage and outstanding balance on the line of credit. A $350 thousand Equipment Line of Credit is in place that we will only pay interest on the amount drawn for capital projects until next April. At that time, we have the option to roll the amount of the outstanding Equipment Line of Credit into the mortgage with a very minimal fee or take out a five to nine year equipment note for the amount. At the same time, Gwinnett Community Bank will review club financial progress and if the current positive trend continues, the bank will provide up to another Sprayer Range picker $250 thousand Equipment Line of Credit for the remainder of The outstanding balance on the $250 line will convert to an equipment note at the end of In addition, Gwinnett Community Bank currently has issued a $100 thousand Line of Credit for short-term cash needs such as a three payroll month or a surprise major repair. Any amount drawn on this line needs to be repaid. 2 Superintendent News October 2015 I m sure everyone has noticed the greens have slowed down. This is the preparation for the winter. We begin with shutting off the growth regulator application; the growth regulator is what gives it the speed in the summer. We raise the heights to our desirable length for winter. The reason for doing this now is we have to spray a product for Spring Dead Spot 3 or 4 days before the first frost. It takes about 2 weeks for the growth regulator the leave to grass. We never know when that first frost will come, but based on past history it could be from the first of October to mid-november. However, Mike Cromer was able to sink the short putt for the victory after Team Bieller had narrowly missed their opportunity for birdie. We had great weather for the event, and want to thank everyone who participated this year. 4 Ladies Let s G WGA News LF WOMEN S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS The W.G.A. played their Club Championship on Saturday & Sunday September 12th & 13th. Congratulations to Mrs. Beth Mozley who was able to edge the field this year to claim honors of 2015 W.G.A. Club Champion. Mrs. Mozley shot a two day total of 175 to win the W.G.A. Championship. Mrs. Freida Harrell took honors of Senior Club Champion with a good round of 92. Lady Senior Club Champion Mrs. Freida Harrell 1st Net Champion was Delicia Reynolds, who shot 147 for the two days, and was able to hold off Maureen Ryan, who was 2nd Net Champion and shot a two day total of 149. Contact Larry Parker at Lparker@ berkeleyhillscc.org or call (770) ext Approx. 24 lb turkey Gravy Cranberry sauce 1 dozen dinner rolls Cornbread stuffing Green bean casserole Roasted root vegetables Wild rice w/cranberries and almonds Pumpkin pie $115 Turkey only $65 With cranberry sauce Extra sides $15 each Extra pie $20 ROASTED PUMPKIN SOUP Yield approx 2 quarts 2-2pound pumpkins ¼ cup vegetable oil Salt and pepper 3 cups chicken broth 1 cup diced onion 1 TBL peeled and chopped ginger root ¼ cup maple syrup 1 tsp cinnamon ½ tsp nutmeg ½ tsp allspice 1 cup heavy cream Split pumpkins in half and scrape out seeds and set aside Rub pumpkin all over with oil and sprinkle inside with salt and pepper Place skin side up on lined baking sheet approx. 1 hour or until tender Remove from oven until cool enough to handle Using a spoon scoop out pumpkin and place in bowl, discard skin In medium stock pot sauté onion and ginger until tender approx. 7-8 minutes Add cinnamon nutmeg and allspice sauté 1 minute Add chicken stock, syrup, and pumpkin Bring to boil, reduce heat to simmer, let simmer approx 45 minutes Puree until smooth and strain Return to pot add heavy cream return to boil and season with salt and pepper to taste To toast seed: rinse with water until free of pumpkin flesh Place in bowl toss with pinch of salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, and sugar Place on baking sheet and toast until golden brown approx. 15
