2 Club Championship Info 1. The first half of the Club Championship will be held at the Turkey Creek Golf Club in Lincoln on September 20, The second half will be held at the Teal Bend Golf Club on October 18, To be eligible for the Club Championships, the member must have played a minimum of two of our tournaments during the year. There were 8 regular tournaments to choose from prior to the Club Championship. This rule was put into effect because, in the past, there were members who never played in our tournaments all year, then showed up at the Club Championships and ran away with it (prizes, $100, trophy, etc.) The club felt it was only fair and in good fellowship that one should participate in a few prior tournaments before playing the Club Championships. 3. Club Championship Awards: Each flight - Men s A Flight, Men s B Flight & Women s Flight will each be awarded with a 1st place & 2nd place prize. 4. Any member can play during our Club Championship tournaments (Turkey Creek or the Teal Bend courses) and not participate in the Championships. Example: Mel Yu cannot play at the Turkey Creek course, but will play the Tend Bend course in October. 5. Players not involved in the Championships will still be able to place in our regular monthly tournament, win the $$ Hole, CP Hole, and Skins (in the flight their handicap places them in). 6. During the Championships, players will be paired up in foursomes by their Flights. "A" Flight players will play with "A" Flight players. "B" Flight players will play with "B" Flight players, and so on. Players will be paired up by their handicaps during the first half and by the results of the first half for the second half. Those who want to play at the Turkey Creek Golf Course or the Teal Bend Golf Course and do not wish to be in the Championships can form their own groups to golf if they wish. Please note signup deadlines on the following flyers and signup through our website. Contact Tournament Chair May Lee@ famileex5@sbcglobal.net or if you have any questions. 2

7 (Hole #2 Poppy Hills) Notes from the seashore: It seemed everyone enjoyed their weekend (August 22 Poppy August 23 rd Laguna Seca) in Monterey this year. The weather was nice and cool the traffic on Hwy 101 not so much! We all enjoyed the company of our guests Chris Fung and Mark Raus. Great to have you join us hope to see you again! I talked with several folks about the new renovations at Poppy Hills. Seems they did a terrific job with the exception of holes #10, 11, and twelve which seemed less than better. Thanks for the photo contributions Lance and Rosie! Several depict club members doing what we do best (see page 9). The seafood in Monterey is the best! 7
8 TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT The Montana State Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising golfers to take extra precautions and be on the alert for bears while playing National Forests golf courses. They advise golfers to wear noise-producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert, but not startle the bears unexpectedly. They also advise you to carry pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch for signs of bear activity. Golfers should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings on the golf course. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have bells in them and smell like pepper spray. TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT TRAVEL ALERT The True Rules of Golf Non chalant putts count the same as chalant putts. The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces and bounces just the way you meant to play it. You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time. Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. To calculate the speed of a player's downswing, multiply the speed of his backswing by his handicap. Example: backswing 20 mph, handicap 15, downswing 300 mph. 8

10 Tiger s life has been all downhill... After winning the US and British Open and the PGA Championship, a writer asked Tiger Woods if that was his greatest year. Tiger replied "No, when I was 11, I had straight "A's", won 32 junior tournaments, and had two recesses a day and the cutest girlfriend in the whole school. Everything has been downhill since then." Some facts about golf The largest golfing green is that of the 695-yard, 5th hole; a par 6 at the International Golf Club in Massachusetts, with an area in excess of 28,000 square feet. 2. The driver swing speed of an average lady golfer is 62 mph; 96 mph for an average LPGA professional; 84 mph for an average male golfer; 108 mph for an average PGA Tour player; 130 mph for Tiger Woods; mph for a national long drive champion. 3. There are 336 dimples on a regulation golf ball. 4. The first golf balls were made of thin leather stuffed with feathers. Tightly-packed feathers made balls that flew the farthest. Feather balls were used until The youngest golfer to shoot a hole-in-one was Coby Orr, who was five years old at the time. It happened in Littleton, Colorado, in % of golfers are women. 7. Golf was banned in Scotland from 1457 to 1502 to ensure citizens wouldn't waste time when preparing for an English invasion. 8. Don't feel bad about your high handicap. Eighty % of all golfers will never achieve a handicap of less than eighteen. 10
