1 13 December 2018 This will be the final edition of the newsletter for 2018 and we will resume in the middle of January 2019 once again has not been a year without challenges, yet we have also had a number of achievements and successes. Our Club Captain (Clarence Abbott) highlights some of these in his message to all our members below. In this edition we will also deal with the 2019 playing fees and remind all members to ensure that they are fully au fait with the new rules that will be implemented on 1 January 2019 (a summary of the new rules are posted on the small notice board above the handicap system). Neswill Croy (Pictured below with Stan Rowland- Kuilsriver and WP committee member) was awarded 3 medals from WP golf union for his achievements throughout the season. These include IPT most valuable player; SA IPT B section winners medal and WP team of the year. Well done Neswill. At last night s prize giving (Wednesday 12 December 2018) the Kuilsriver Golf Club 3 rd division league team (pictured below) were presented with their Shield for winning the division. 3 As we are nearing the end 2018 and looking back, I can report with pride on our club s achievements for the year. After an intensive process of interviews, we were successful in appointing a very competent Club manager, Marthinus Jacobs. This was followed by the promotion of Surika Bezuidenhout to Food & Beverage manager, the appointment of Michelle Mearns as our financial Officer, Lee-Shae Solomons as Office Administrator and the appointment of permanent bar staff. These appointments have improved our service to our members and visitors. We have also seen the retirement of our long time green keeper Gerrie Conradie, who for many years was a very loyal and willing employee. The year was also challenging on many fronts, namely, the drought, tough economic conditions resulting in declining rounds of golf etc. But with a supporting committee, management and staff, we managed to overcome most of these difficulties. On the maintenance of the course we thank Charl Fouche and his team for the effort they put in to always have our course in a good playing condition. The declining rounds had an impact on our finances, however with a forward thinking manager and committee, I am positive that we have laid a good foundation for the success of the club going forward. On the playing side, we achieved good results in the WP leagues, winning the 3 rd league. To Anton van Niekerk as convener of the league and Jan van Dyk as Captain and his team we salute you. To Neswill Croy for making the WP IPT team and being awarded the most valuable player of the IPT team, congratulations, and may you continue to develop your talent and achieve you dreams. 4 The Kuilsriver golf club Staff are hosting a golf day on Friday 14 December Tee off times are from 11am at a cost of R350 pp or R1400 per 4-ball. Lots of prizes on offer and dinner will be served at prize giving. Please contact the office to book. Sponsorship / Donations are also welcome.

5 15 Rounds on 15 Courses in 5 days is a Western Province Nomads fund raising initiative. One of these rounds was played on our course yesterday and The team Manager (Ken Walker) send a letter to the Club Manager expressing their gratitude for the hospitality of the club. Ken added that they managed to raise R894 via stableford points / birdies / eales etc. He largely attributes this to the good condition of our course. Fortunately Load shedding has absolutely no impact on our ability to play the game of golf (well during the day anyway). The computers at the club remain powered by a backup generator, so booking and producing receipts etc. is not effected. However, it does have a limited impact on the ability of the Kiosk to produce much enjoyed toasties etc. For this reason, the club will ensure that we have fresh sandwiches / salads / fruit salads etc. on offer during the scheduled load shedding times. Credit / debit card facilities are now available in the kiosk, bar, Proshop and office for your convenience.

9 Members are reminded that there are free golf lessons for juniors on a Tuesday between 15:30 and 16:30. The new Player s edition of the Rules of Golf for 2019 will be made available in the pro shop. Please collect your copy. 10 Traditionally the playing fees were always increased as off 1 October. However, this year the committee decided to only increase the visitor playing fees as of 1 October and to only increase the members playing fees with effect of 1 January 2019 (in line with the financial year).
