Ladies and Gentlemen of the Southwest Chapter, It is with great honor I have to be your President. This summer has been a great summer of quality golf and fun events that I hope everyone has enjoyed. We have been focusing our attention on several important issues I feel are essential to the success of this Chapter and its Members going forward. The Board works for you and our goal is to enhance the quality and level of service it provides as you pursue your career as a PGA Professional. Continuing education is critical to our membership and the career of the PGA Professional. As the game of golf evolves and progresses, it is important for you to stay informed and be aware of the changes in our industry. The PGA Professional is the leading expert in the game of golf and we owe it to our members to provide them with the best education possible. The Board has been reviewing the charitable giving programs and making recommendations to revitalize and improve the contributions going forward. By creating ideas for our members to pursue, we can enable them to generate charitable giving in the range of $1,000 each and fund our program for 2 years. As your Chapter President, I am open to discussing ideas and opinions from our members as we continue to move forward. I can be reached at / Bill@wildcatruncc.com. Feel free to contact me with any suggestions, thoughts or concerns you have that will help us all improve the quality of our Chapter and the careers of our fellow PGA Professionals. Regards, Bill Harley Bill Harley, PGA Southwest Chapter President

Dear PGA Members, Another summer tournament season has all but wrapped up. Thank you to all the Assistants and Professionals who gave up their golf course to host our events. Each captain will select a captain s pick to complete their team of 8. Date & Course is currently TBD. We are lucky enough to have some huge supporters of the Assistant s Group! Steve Sponder from Global Golf Sales continues to be a big supporter along with True Spec (Ryan Richardson & Loren David) who were able to increase their overall support this year. Special thanks to all of these individuals. Participation was slightly down this year but remained a constant number for each event. Last year (2017) we averaged 44 players per event, 221 for 5 events and 77 Assistant Players Cards. This year (2018) we averaged 41 players per event and sold 66 Assistant Player Cards. We have had a decent amount of turnover and this led to a lot of new faces this year. This will be my final year as Assistant Chairperson, but plan on being a vital part to helping the next Assistant chairperson in arranging tournament dates and scoring events. 10 Southwest Chapter Education Report Dear fellow PGA Professionals, Our previous MSR cycle concluded with our chapter conducting 10 events with a total of 36 MSR opportunities. The previous cycle we saw a large group of members struggling to fulfill their MSR requirements as we approached the deadline. Please keep this in mind as we have begun the new MSR cycle. There are always additional opportunities available through pga.org as well as the Certified Professional Program to help you reach your requirements. This spring we conducted a few seminars prior to the conclusion of the MSR cycle, and we will have a few additional seminars this fall. I have been in contact with the FSGA regarding Rules of Golf seminars; at this time all the scheduled seminars conducted by the FSGA in our area are full. I am working with them to create additional seminars and will keep the membership updated once this has been finalized. Also, I am working with our Career Consultant, Kathy Grayson, to offer a few seminars to help prepare you for your future or how to achieve that next step. We will conduct a resume and cover letter seminar on October 23rd at Fiddlesticks Country Club, from 12pm 3pm. This is just one seminar in addition to the other career orientated seminars we are still finalizing. Please visit the South Florida PGA website to find additional seminar opportunities and information. I would like to give a special thanks to a few individuals who provided assistance and opened their facility to us over the summer for various seminars. Thank you to Dan Lockhart, Mike Vanover, Scott Kash, and partner of the Southwest Chapter, Patrick Bracco from EZLinks Golf. Please note the Annual Teaching Symposium supported by Super Speed and PXG will be held on October 18 th & 19 th at Grey Oaks Country Club. This is a great opportunity to gain MSR credits, as anyone attending will receive 13 MSR credits for both days. You can find additional details and register by visiting If you have any topic suggestions, feedback or would like additional information regarding our education events, please feel free to contact me at Fitzy534@aol.com or at Respectfully, Paulie Fitzpatrick, PGA Southwest Chapter Education Chair

Growth of the Game Report Dear Fellow Golf Professionals, The Southwest Chapter continues to make every effort to allow us to be a leader in supporting the growth of the game. We continue to seek out new opportunities for events to provide free lessons and clinics. Not only are we helping grow the game, but our peers have shown that volunteering at events grows your client base and revenue. We hope to reach many new golfers this season and we look forward to having your help in doing so. This summer I had the honor of directing the 9 Hole Tournament Series for the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association. Southwest Florida Junior Golf is going on its 44 th season of providing youth in the area a chance to play and develop through tournament golf. Juniors from our organization have gone on to be very successful individuals in our local community such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, engineers, and golf professionals. I would like to thank the following courses and their staff for donating their courses for events this summer: San Carlos Golf Club, Spring Run Golf Club, Club at Pelican Sound, Whiskey Creek Country Club, Myerlee Country Club, Cross Creek Country Club, The Landings and Stoneybrook Golf Club. Growing the game at your respective clubs should be a top priority for all professionals. Starting up clinics or camps is a fun and easy way to meet more of your membership while sharing your passion for the game we love. Make this a priority for your staff! If you know of any events or have any suggestions to help us continue the task of growing golf, please let me know. I am passionate about the growth of the game in families and kids. I would love your help as a Professional in the Southwest Chapter in coming up with a few new events that involve families playing the game. Best Regards, Josh Ross, PGA Growth of the Game Chairperson C- (239) E- JDRoss626@gmail.com

Dear Fellow PGA Members, The junior golf committee continues to strive in its efforts to make the Southwest Chapter a leader in junior golf. We continue to search for new opportunities for events to encourage junior golf. This year as the junior golf chairperson we had great success within our local SWFJGA Tour with over 120 participants and granted $30,000 in scholarship funds to local graduating seniors. The Drive, Chip, and Putt local qualifiers showed great success with 170 kids participating. Local junior, Talia Rodino, will represent the Southwest Chapter of the South Florida PGA as she heads off the August to compete in the Drive, Chip, and Putt in April The Southwest Chapter had its first PGA Junior League teams compete this year. The team made it through the first qualifier battling against three teams from the Southeast Chapter. The South Florida Section continues to conduct countless events throughout the section, providing additional opportunities for juniors within the Southwest Chapter. Currently the South Florida PGA is conducting Team Golf events now through the first week of November. They will also conduct Team Golf in spring of If you have any kids who want to learn tournament golf, it is a fun, easy team setting for juniors to get involved in the game. Please contact me is you have any juniors looking to get involved. Over the next year my goal for the Southwest Chapter to grow from one PGA Junior League Team to have two-three teams. If you are interested in getting a team together or have juniors that want to play on a team, please do not hesitate to reach out. Warmest regards, Bobby Conway, PGA Assistant Golf Professional Stoneybrook Golf Club Stoneybrook Golf Blvd Estero, FL 33928

Dear Southwest Chapter PGA Members and Associates: As we enter the fall season, our tournament season is quickly coming to a close. We have a few remaining events set to be held in the upcoming months due to inclement weather we experienced earlier in the year. Through all the challenging weather situations we had another outstanding year, as participation and competition was excellent across all events. At the end of this tournament season I will be stepping down as your tournament chairperson. Having served at the committee level in some capacity for 9 of the past 10 years, I feel it was time to allow other professionals the opportunity to serve within our Chapter. Serving on our board has been very rewarding and I have built relationships from doing so that will last for life. A special thanks to all of our committee members, in particular Jordan Burke, for their hard work and dedication on the tournament committee. I encourage professionals to be responsive to and receptive of future committees when they call on you to host events at your facility. Hosting events for our professionals is a unique opportunity to showcase your facility, particularly during the slower summer season. Thank you to all our professionals who stepped up this year and hosted events, some even two-chapter events along with assistant and senior tournaments! Information and registration for our final events of the season: Global Golf Sales Event #4, Chapter Stroke Play Championship, and Pro-Assistant can be found on the section website. Thank you for your time, and best of luck with the upcoming season. See you soon, EJ McDonnell, PGA Director of Golf Bonita Bay Club Southwest Chapter Tournament Chairperson
