3 April 9, 2018 Dear Southern Chapter Professionals, The 2018 season has already begun and today we gather here to celebrate another great year in golf. Our passion and love for the game remains blatant as we continue to move towards our perpetual goal of serving the members and growing the game. I believe these meetings mean much more than MSR credits. These days are great reminders of why we made the decision to work in the golf industry. The Officers of the Southern Chapter attended the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando this past February to develop a framework for upcoming activities. During this trip we were able to secure sponsorships, cultivate relationships, set up education seminars and much more. We hope this new tradition endures in time as we narrow our focus on enhancing the lives of each Professional and Associate in our chapter. I would like to thank all committee members for their work during the busy season. We are starting another complete tournament calendar with a few small changes that will benefit all members. PGA Jr League promises to be instrumental in helping junior golf draw numbers from a different audience. Furthermore, we will attend two highly interesting education seminars this year that will add rounds to your facility and enhance your professional image. As your President, I would like to encourage you once again to get involved with the South Florida PGA Foundation programs. Call the section office and ask what s best for you. Is it PGA Hope or maybe a Habitat for Humanity home construction project? How about Smiling Fore Life, or simply shopping online with Amazon Smile? There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved, all you must do is to put it down in your agenda. As I mention every year during our Spring Meeting, much of our on-going success is a result of the high quality product that section staff delivers consistently every day. Thank you Geoff, Meredith, Caitlin and the entire team. We applaud your professionalism and are truly blessed to receive your continued support. 4 Report of the Vice President April 9, 2018 Dear Fellow Southern Chapter Professionals, Welcome to the 2018 Southern Chapter Spring Meeting. It was just a few short months ago we gathered at Pembroke Lakes Country Club for our Fall Meeting and Awards dinner. Since that time committee members have dedicated their available time to set up a successful and enjoyable 2018 season. During the December meeting I encouraged everyone to find a way to serve the Chapter and Section. Our Chapter had 10 professionals serve as Walking Ambassadors at the Wednesday Pro-Am at the Honda Classic. Over the next month, The International Links of Miami Melreese is set to host the 2018 Special Olympics with competition date scheduled to be May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Throughout the year, the South Florida PGA has a number of Junior events held within the Southern Chapter. I encourage you to reach out to the Section office to get involved. MSR credits are earned for volunteering your time at the Drive, Chip, and Putt, Prep Tour, Challenge Tour, and Championship Tour events. I would like to welcome Kathy Grayson as our new PGA Employment Consultant to our Chapter. I had the opportunity to visit with Kathy at the PGA Merchandise Show, and I am confident in saying that we are lucky to have Kathy with us. As always, thank you to Geoff Lofstead, Meredith Schuler, Caitlin Huiting and the entire Section Staff for their hard work and always being there to serve us. They all are amazing! 8 Report of the Secretary April 16th, 2018 Fellow Southern Chapter Professionals, It has been a tremendous honor for me to serve all of you during these past few months as your Southern Chapter Secretary. The enthusiasm I witnessed from our President Santos and Vice President Shane to improve and grow our Chapter has been extremely positive. We had a successful trip to Orlando at the PGA Merchandise Show where we solidified corporate relationships with E-Z-GO, Cobra, Srixon, EZLinks, Golf Genius, Birdie Box, and Retail Tribe. Hopefully, we will be able to continue attending the PGA Merchandise Show where there is a valuable opportunity to strengthen those relationships as well as establish new ones. We strive to make a large leap forward in junior golf through growth and expansion in PGA Jr League. I would like to encourage all of you to make an effort at your club to have at least one PGA Jr League team. I would also like to encourage you to assist with the Special Olympics at The International Links Miami Melreese Country Club. Last week I had the opportunity to attend a practice session and found it to be extremely rewarding by guiding these kids into a new game and environment. Aside from the personal satisfaction gained from assisting the Special Olympics, we also receive monetary compensation along with MSR credits. We have an excellent tournament schedule this year put together by our Tournament Committee Chairperson Brian Schuler, PGA. Brian has worked diligently to increase tournament purses, so we should all make an effort to participate more in our Chapter events and promote them towards our Associates. Lastly, I would like to show my gratitude to everyone at our Section office for granting us time for any request we present to them. 10 April 9, 2018 Dear Southern Chapter Professionals, This year we currently have two education seminars set up for our members and associates. As we look to provide additional education seminars throughout the year, please visit the Section website to view any new education seminars available for the membership. On April 16 th, Patrick Bracco with EZLinks will educate us on the capabilities of their software in creating more golf rounds. This seminar must be regarded as a tool for PGA professionals to excel at tee-sheets and yield management practices. According to Patrick, those of us who currently work with the EZLinks platform only use around 20% of its full capacity. TITLE: GETTING THE MOST OF EVERY TEE TIME REVENUE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES TOPICS: How do we re-train golfers not to book last minute and look for cheapest tee time? Channel Management Dynamic Pricing Strategies by Golfer Type: Time vs. Price Shopper Why the Rack Rate is a 4 Letter Word? Yield Management The second education seminar for the year will be held by Ted Eleftheriou with Retail Tribe. Ted will show us how they can dramatically increase the perceived value of their contribution to their employer, along with the five keys to increasing that real value still further. The date and location for this education seminar is still to be determined and will be posted on the Section website at a later date. TITLE: THE REAL VALUE OF A PGA PROFESSIONAL TOPICS: Your value starts with the impact you can make on the golf club value and, contrary to the prevailing accounting and reporting best practice, that is a function of CUSTOMER ASSET VALUE (CAV) How do you calculate CAV and what are the three key drivers that the PGA Professional can focus on to increase CAV The Five Strategies, that any Professional can focus on, to influence the three drivers and CAV Three examples of activities in support of two of the strategies that have created proven results in the US at both private and public facilities How to turn any event into a powerful opportunity to improve CAV Negotiating an improved contract with your Employer. 11 April 2, 2018 This year s tournament season has kicked off and we have a very exciting schedule of events lined up for our Chapter. We had another successful year last year and look forward to another great year ahead. Registration for events: All event registration will be done via Blue Golf. You can view the Chapter tournament schedule by going to the link below. To view details for each event you can click on the event name and it will take you to each event page which includes further details and registration. The 2018 Global Golf Sales Southern Chapter Match Play Championship: The Match Play Championship will consist of matches that will be held throughout the summer months. Registration opened on April 1 st and closes on April 15 th. After the registration deadline, the Southern Chapter Tournament Committee members will seed those players registered primarily on their ranking on the 2017 Southern Chapter Player of the Year points list(s) and 2017 Southern Chapter money list; amongst other seeding criteria. After the seeding is established, players will be individually contacted by the Southern Chapter Tournament Committee members. Players will be given their assigned First Round matches and will be given an allotted time to complete their match. o o There will be a consolation bracket introduced to the event this year and will have a payout for those matches. First round matches can begin on Monday, May 7 th and players will be responsible for scheduling their own matches. Match results must be provided to the Southern Chapter Tournament Committee and will be updated online. The format will continue this way throughout the summer months until the final match of the Championship. Southern Chapter Player s Card: $150 (If you intend playing more than 3 events, be sure to purchase the Player s Card). General Event Entry Fees: $85 with player s card $125 without player s card $50 Bonus Pool $25 Senior Bonus Pool $20 Skins Senior Only Event Entry Fees: $85 Per Player $25 Bonus Pool $20 Skins Purse Break Down: As a standard rule of thumb, the Southern Chapter purse should be paid out to 40% of the field per the standard purse breakdown formula. The bonus pool payout will be based on paying 25% of those entered in the bonus pool competition up to a maximum of 20 spots. If there is not one skin, the skin money will be awarded to the holes with the least amount of winning scores. Player of the Year points: Player of the year points will be accumulated based on the player s finish in individual events and based on participation in team events. There are three Player of the Year categories. Class A Professional Player of the Year, Senior Player of the Year and Associate Player of the Year. Senior Player of the Year Points will be accumulated by playing in Senior Only events based on your finish and/or playing in Chapter events based on your finish compared to other participating Seniors. Seniors playing in Chapter events will also receive Player of the Year points towards the Southern Chapter Player of the Year. Player of the Year payouts are being sponsored by Canam Golf. Refund Policy: All refunds will be subject to a $10 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after the deadline and if pairings have been made, within 24-hours after the deadline date, unless a previously paid alternate can fill the spot. NOTE: This only applies to the entry fee of the tournament. Players will be refunded for the bonus pool and the skins game if they entered that portion of the competition.
