Sam Logan General Manager Harvey Miller Executive Chef I hope everyone had a great and safe Holiday Season. We have some new and exciting Food & Beverage events that we will be launching in January.

This will be 5-6 wines paired with specific foods from Argentina. We will have a limited number that we can host for each event, so look for the announcement.

I would like a Member and Spouse to join me for dinner to have open conversations about any topic you wish to discuss. This will be the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM.

We have some new and exciting Food & Beverage events that we will be launching in January. One of the concepts is Tastes around the World. We will do a Wine Pairing in January, the date to be sent out the first week of January, of Tastes of Argentina. This will be 5-6 wines paired with specific foods from Argentina. We will have a limited number that we can host for each event, so look for the announcement. We will have three other Tastes around the World wine parings throughout the calendar year: Spain, Italy and the last one to be determined. I also want to start a monthly Dining with the GM. I would like a Member and Spouse to join me for dinner to have open conversations about any topic you wish to discuss. This will be the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM. Please me and I will confirm first received and book for the remaining months as received. This will start Saturday, December 15th. Also, during the last Board of Governors meeting we had one (1) Non-Board Member join us. We will continue that program monthly. I believe this communicates more transparency for the membership as a whole. Again, please me and I will confirm first received and book for the remaining months as well. Chef Harvey will be rolling out several specials throughout the week starting in January as well. Look for these specials to be coming out. With February, we have the Super Bowl, which we will have a Super Bowl party here at the Club. This is one of the major events annually and we hope to really have a great Super Bowl party with your participation. Valentine s Day also comes in February so book your Valentine s Dinner early. Lastly, your comment cards are read weekly by myself and shared with my staff. All of these comment cards are important and they have allowed me to confirm several areas we need to work on and highlights some of our really strong employees, leading to better opportunities here at WFCC for them. To mention a few, but not all, employees that consistently have great comments; Brenda Jo, Miguel, Anna and Monica. The New Year has arrived and I want to thank everyone for the support that has been given to myself as well as the staff this past year. It has been extremely enjoyable as well as challenging and I am grateful for another year to produce the quality of cuisine that you desire. I would like to start out this year by acknowledging the staff behind the scenes that helps to make each meal possible and delightful: Jorge Bartesaghi (Sous Chef), Alfredo Cardona (Kitchen Supervisor/Food Runner), Anna Amundsen (Pantry), Linda Williams Taylor (Pastry) Hector Lara (Line Cook), Odalis Garnica (Food Runner), Juan Gamez (Sauté), Corey Sanders (Middle Expediter), Marsha Aldridge (Grill), Shavoy Rockhead (Grill), Kevin Sanders (Pantry), Aric Villavicencio (Pantry/Sanitation), Derrick Perry (Sanitation), Shannon Starks (Sanitation) The time and effort to provide a quality product is a team effort and without these tremendous people I would not be able to execute the events or the experience that is desired. Please be patient with the mess as we prepare and improve the course for the upcoming golf season. I would like to bring up cart traffic on the golf course, this time of year the grass is not growing. I would like to ask for the majority of the cart traffic to stay on the fairways. The rough is obviously cut at a higher height, so it s more prone to matting down from golf carts. Also, I would like to ask you to not follow the cart in front of you. If you look at 7 for example, you can see where the majority of players drive off the cart path left of the red tee to get to the fairway. It almost looks like a cattle trail because the rough is matted down from cart compaction. This creates areas in the rough that cannot grow thick and healthy turf without aerification in the summer months. I am asking the Membership to follow the cart post on the golf course. Just a reminder to enter the fairways once you pass the post closest to the tee box, and exit the fairway before the second post. Other areas of concern would be the left side of 12 and 14 in the grass lows. Please, just be aware of this issue and help where you can. My critical factors for fitness in winter are stamina, flexibility and strength, in that order. Why?

Our golf time is highly limited in the winter, which creates anticipation for the onset of spring. It also provides an opportunity to assess our game and plan for improvement when golf weather resurfaces. There are three areas of my game that I will always focus on in preparation for the upcoming tournament season: Fitness, Chipping/Putting, and daily drills for swing improvement. Fitness I believe fitness is critical to a healthy life as well as a long and successful golf career. I exercise every day when not on vacation, but I will try to crank it up a notch during winter as it is something I can do indoors. My critical factors for fitness in winter are stamina, flexibility and strength, in that order. Why? Good cardiopulmonary health allows the muscles to work longer using less fuel, which make efforts to increase flexibility and strength more productive, so always start your fitness program by focusing on sustaining an elevated heart rate for a duration of time. My flexibility and strength routines focus on my entire body, not just my golf muscles. In order to protect from injury and to gain power as well as speed in your swing, one must ensure that your body is stronger than your swing. If you would like some tips for golf fitness and reducing injury risk, it was my major in college, so, just ask! Chipping and Pitching Some might say it is silly to practice Chipping and Pitching when the grass is dormant and lies are super tight and muddy. On the contrary, I believe it trains you to accelerate and to be more precise with your contact and more focused in your practice. And when I practice chipping and pitching, I will typically try to practice the most difficult shots. This gives me the confidence to pull off more difficult shots during play. Daily Drills I am always working on something in my swing, so I keep a club or two at my house to swing in the garage from time to time. During this time, I will not make swings so much as I will drill and rehearse what I am working on. If you have taken a lesson from me, you know how important I think rehearsal is.
