In order to secure the best performers and dates for our residents, we will now begin the search for the 2014 Concert Series.

Members review acts using demo DVD s, attend outside performances as well as the William Clare entertainment showcase on January 24, 2013.

Committee members will work from December 2012 through March 2013. The volunteer link closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19th.

Tickets for the 2013 season go on sale on Thursday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m. in the ballroom. In order to secure the best performers and dates for our residents, we will now begin the search for the 2014 Concert Series. We are seeking volunteers to serve on the 2014 Concert Series ad hoc committee. Five committee members will be named at the October 24th regular Board meeting. T.J. Shine, Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent NEWS FROM GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE... As you can imagine, this much rain has made accomplishing everyday tasks such as mowing fairways and roughs very difficult. The golf course maintenance staff has been working very hard to try and keep the course open as many days as possible. With that being said, after heavy rain events we do occasionally have to make the course cart path only. I understand that nobody enjoys cart path only days and if we could we would never have to resort to this. The only other option we have is to completely close the course which would allow no play at all and I know that is not the preferred method. I am asking for your help on the days that the course is extremely saturated and we are cart path only to please abide by these guidelines and keep all 4 tires on the path and do not drive onto the turf for any reason including to drive past your playing partners cart. Often times the areas adjacent to the cart paths are some of the wettest on the course, when carts travel off the path it creates a tremendous amount of extra work for our staff to repair and maintain these areas. During the last week in October (weather permitting) we will be performing our fall fertilizer application. This will include fertilization of the entire golf course with the exception of the greens. Included in this fertilizer will be a pre-emergent herbicide to help control annual winter weeds such as Sedges and Annual Bluegrass (poa annua). On Sunday, October 28 th we will be applying the fertilizer/herbicide to the back nine starting at approximately 3:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 29 th we will do the front nine also starting around 3:00 p.m. After these applications it is very important that we do not have any cart or foot traffic on the course for the remainder of the day until the product is watered in with the night time irrigation. Traffic on the turf after the fertilizer could result in severe burn and damage to the grass. I want to thank everyone in advance for their help and cooperation with the aforementioned matters. It is our goal to produce the best overall golfing conditions possible for you and this would not be possible without your help.

Page 2 Mark Bainbridge, General Manager This past Saturday, the Recreation District experienced the largest concrete pour since the construction of the clubhouse over twenty years ago. The concrete is for the 60 by 114 golf course maintenance storage building, the new chemical mix/fill/ storage facility, horticultural waste pad, and concrete bins for sand and soil storage. This project has been in the works for over five years and had been delayed by zoning and environmental issues. It is finally coming to fruition with completion expected by year s end. The storage building will allow for us to keep all of our golf course and CLIS equipment under roof extending the useful life of this expensive equipment. Our rental golf cart fleet will also be stored in the equipment storage building. The chemical mix/fill/storage facility will allow us to store and mix chemicals for spraying on the golf course in an environmentally friendly manner and bring us into compliance with state standards. The contractor informed us that it was necessary to start the concrete pour in the wee hours of the morning. I was not happy about that and researched the issue to ensure that it was necessary to start that early in the morning. What I found was that in south Florida at this time of year it is necessary to pour the concrete early so that it sets up properly due to high heat and humidity. Throw in the possibility for rain and I found it necessary to allow the early morning pour. This is really in the best interest of all of the residents, as it will ensure high quality, long lasting concrete slabs for the facilities. We are sorry for the inconvenience to some residents, particularly along the stretch of Palo Duro near the golf course maintenance facility.

With the consolidation of the committees into one committee there are some significant changes in the mechanics of bringing resident concerns forward. The Committee s advisory responsibility is limited to receiving and reviewing resident concerns and requests in the following areas: Maintenance, improvements, logistics, and safety of all of the buildings Recreational activities of the District Proposals for new activities Recurring problems with the general operation of Golf Operations, Food and Beverage Operations, and the community irrigation system (CLIS) If you have any concerns in any area, bring them to the quarterly meeting, scheduled times are posted on the web site and calendar. The committee when appropriate will move the concern forward using the Workshop to officially notify the Board. If your concern is urgent and cannot wait for the regularly scheduled quarterly meeting, you can contact any committee member, the committee chair, or go directly to the General Manager. Here is the purchase information for your tickets - The first day of Series ticket sales will be Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. in the ballroom. Each household may purchase a total of (2) two Series tickets through Friday, November 30, 2012, while supplies last. (Exception - If you have additional individual(s) living with you fulltime, year round, then you may purchase tickets for those individuals.) Payment may be made by cash, check payable to HGRD or charged to your house account. If you are paying by cash, please have the correct change. For those residents who have not yet returned to Herons Glen, you may telephone in your order on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM to one of the following phone numbers: ; or Phone-in orders will be charged to your house account and are non-refundable. Orders will NOT be accepted from voice mail messages. Ordering by phone is intended to be for the use of owners who have not yet returned to Herons Glen. The Committee cannot allow the use of the phone ordering system by owners who are here at The Glen and feel it is an inconvenience to purchase tickets at the Ballroom. If it is determined that this fair system has been abused, then we have no choice but to void the tickets involved. From Friday, November 2, 2012 forward, only one telephone number will be used for orders. That number is and Series tickets will be sold ONLY in the Administration Office during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.). Beginning Monday, December 3, 2012, any remaining Series ($70.00/person for 5 shows) or individual tickets ($17.00/per show) will be sold without limitation. The MATINEE and EVENING performances are the same length and same content - the only difference is the time that the performance begins. Matinees begin at 3:00 PM and Evening Performances begin at 7:00 PM. One MATINEE ticket ($70.00) includes all 5 matinee shows and one EVENING ticket ($70.00) includes all 5 evening shows. If you will be away when the Series tickets go on sale on Thursday, November 1, 2012, you may leave cash or one of your checks (payable to HGRD ) with a friend and ask them to bring it in to pay for your tickets. Please put your House Account # on the check. Your friend CANNOT sign to have the tickets charged to your house account. You will then pick up and sign for your tickets upon your return to The Glen at the Administration office during regular business hours.
