1 Sandringham Golf Club August 2015 Sun shines on a New Winner The warm sun greeted the VSGC members at Sandringham for the August event, & the group witnessed a first time winner in a field that had many great scores. 23 members were out in force to play Sandringham Golf Course, knowing that the last 6 holes were part of the Old Royal Melbourne & they could challenge themselves like the pro s do. Just prior to 8am, the groups were formed, the handicaps allocate, photos taken & the banter was in full force. The VSGC checked with the Sandringham to ensure that they ve got their liquor license back, as there was fear of no beer after the game similar to that of last year, it was confirmed that they had a stacked bar & we were back to normal. So of we went, group 1 had Aca Jagger Nikolic post a super 38 points, to be the stand out in his group, group 2 had George Simic (last month s winner) & Jovanni Markovic shoot 39 & 38 points, so the standard was set. Likewise, groups 3 & 4 had some notable scores, new comer Jadranko Jovanovic (try saying that when you re drunk) & Ray Desancic both showed their skill by handing in 39 points each, it seems that being a grandfather suits Ray. Group 5 was the team with the most notable scores, as Damir Trkulja, Pocket Rocket Micky Dj & Nebojsa Protic all smashing the course with 40 points. Sadly Brane Ilic, who was in the same group only scored 24 points, however, he deserved that, after breaking club dress code rules by wearing a Partizan FK cap. The day s winner came from Group 6 as Zoran Erdevicki reached the summit with a superb 45 points with some scintillating golf. Dragi Trkulja scored 39 points & Sasha Milenkovic could only stand back & watch the 2 others in his group put on a master class. Zoran s score was worthy of winning any comp, this put extra pressure on Sasha Petkovic, as his girlfriend s father (Zoki) has now won 1 more event, so the conversations at the dinner table maybe a little awkward. The NTP s were a mix of interesting results, as George Simic landed a 5 footer on the 3 rd hole, as did Jadranko on hole 7. Jovanni Markovic had a great NTP on the 10th, which he replayed to the boys after the match, over & over & over again. The hardest NPT was the 13th, where the 180 meter par 3 was snapped by Dragutin Tomic, this man always seems to get his name on the board, as does Damir Trkulja, with a 4 footer on the 15 th hole. The Longest Drive on the par 5 9 th hole went to Sasha Petkovic, with a monster drive against the wind, so there was no one capable of matching that strike, unless Ned Guzati Ilic came back from Serbia, so well done to Sasha, all of the NTP winners. In summary, it was a great day with great friends & for a change some very good scores to discuss over a beer. Next month s outing will be at Heidelberg GC (20 th September), this is the club s first private course, which shall be a great challenge for all. All the members are also reminded that the last week in November, we will have a 2 day event on the Murray, so we will wrapping up the year on a high.
