7 October 2015 Vol. 28 No. 4 Getting To Know Jason Barrington 1. Where were you born and raised? I was born in DeQueen, AR in I was raised in a small town of Horatio, AR. I started and graduated from Horatio Schools. 2. How did you become involved in the golf course industry? I started playing golf when I was 15 and was addicted. I was in need of a job and a friend put in a good word for me where he worked and they hired me. That was in 2002 and I absolutely feel in love with the job. I started as a maintenance crew member and was eager to learn and worked my way up the ladder to where I am today. 3. What is your favorite part of your job? I would say the favorite part of my job is being able to have a vision for how you want to course to look and play, put a plan to together to achieve that vision, execute the plan, see the results, and then enjoy the results when I play golf. 4. Hardest thing about being a superintendent? I would say the 2 hardest things about being a superintendent is weather and managing employees. Of course we no control of the weather and we are all at its mercy. Managing employees can be such a frustrating process. Finding people that want to work and not just draw a check is very difficult. Then once you find someone that wants to work getting them trained and to actually follow directions is difficult. For some reason most people try to find short cuts or think their way is better than yours. Then of course keeping employees is difficult as well. Especially here in West Texas with the oil fields. 5. Favorite thing to do in your spare time? I love to spent time with my family being active. I love to play golf, fish, swim, jump on the trampoline, go to sporting events, and whatever else we can do as a family. 6. If you could play any golf course where would it be & who would be in your foursome? I would have to say Augusta National. The foursome would be: Bubba Watson, Jordan Speith, Tiger Woods, Myself. 7. What other organizations and/or associations are you involved with? I am a member of the GCSAA, Lubbock Chapter Basketball Association, and USSSA Baseball. 7

8 October 2015 Vol. 28 No Tell us about your family I am married to a very amazing woman Kara Barrington. We have been married for a little over 9 years and in this industry and today s times I am very proud of that number. We have 3 kids together Jacob 10, Kloee 6, and Kinlee 5. I have a son from a previous marriage named Jayse 13. I try to spend as much time with them as possible. They love coming to the course with me in the afternoons to hang out whether it is to play golf or while I am finishing up at work. 9. Who is your greatest inspiration or role model? I would have to say that my biggest inspiration is my faith in Jesus. He is the one that leads me and I try to live my life in a way that honors him. I try to treat everyone the way I want to be treated no matter if they are one of my workers or a complete stranger. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 10. Where would you like to be in 10 years? In 10 years I hope to still be right here in Lubbock. My wife and I really want our kids to grow up with a group of friends. The Civic center is having renovations done and we will not be allowed to use the facility. We have booked the Overton Hotel. Everything will take place here. You will sleep, eat, learn, and party here. double door for entry not a garage style door. Just want you to know so you can plan your equipment accordingly. It will still be a wonderful event because of YOU not the locations. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!!
