All golfers must exercise extreme care and common sense at all times while operating our golf carts. Please avoid wet areas and obey all cart signs. Please observe the following special GRCC Cart Rules: Our pars 3 s can be very wet, so carts must stay on the existing paved paths at all times on all Par 3 holes. No more than two people on a cart at all times. All drivers of carts must be 18 years old or older. Handicap carts are available upon request. Please contact our Starter regarding rules. GOLF COURSE RULES USGA rules apply at all times. All Members must record and post acceptable scores (see handicap section). All players must leave our golf course in the condition it was found or better. Be sure to fix divots and pitch marks and rake sand traps. The courtesy you provide will come back to you. SLOW PLAY Slow players must allow faster players to play through. We have adopted the following USGA rule of etiquette: It is a group s responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through. In addition, the group behind must insist on the right to play through. PRACTICE AREAS AND HOURS We have four designated practice areas: putting green, chipping green, pitching green with bunkers and driving range. All practice should take place in these areas and not on the golf course. Free relief must be taken from practice greens (Rule 25-3). Upon the player s ball coming to rest inside one of the short game area practice bunkers, the player may mark and lift their ball, rake the bunker, and replace the ball in its exact spot within the bunker. Taking free relief outside of the bunker is not

7 an option. Note: It is the responsibility of anyone using the driving range to be respectful of players on the 18 th hole. Do not hit while the 18 th hole is in play. New for 2017, the driving range and short game areas will have the following extended hours: April: Closes at 7pm May August: Closes at 8pm September October: Closes at 6pm LIGHTNING SYSTEM Glen Ridge C.C. has a lightning prediction system that warns golfers that a lightning storm is nearby. One 15 second blast of a siren will blow if there is a danger of a lightning strike on or around the golf course. There are 2 siren horns, one is located on the clubhouse and one is in-between the 8 th & 9 th fairways. When you hear the siren, all play must cease and all occupants of the golf course must come back to the clubhouse. Play may not resume until the all clear is given by the system (three 5 second blasts of the siren). HANDICAP/POSTING OF SCORES POLICY We employ the USGA Handicap System. All Members are responsible for understanding how this system works and for using it properly. The following is an outline of the system: HANDICAP SYSTEM OVERVIEW The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis. A basic premise underlies the USGA Handicap System, namely that every player will try to make the best score at each hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. Fair handicapping depends upon full, accurate information regarding a player s potential scoring ability as reflected by a complete scoring record. Every golfer shall be responsible for returning all acceptable scores. Scores are to be posted on the GHIN computers stationed inside of the Men s Locker Room and the Ladies Locker Room. A member of the Professional Golf Staff can answer any questions. Posting scores in person immediately following the round is played is the preferred way to post your score. This method of posting shall be used whenever possible. However, online posting is also permitted. ACCEPTABLE SCORES

8 If 13 or more holes are played, the player shall post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player shall post a nine-hole score. In either case, scores for un-played holes shall be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the un-played holes. Example: A player with a Course Handicap of 30 stops playing after 16 holes because of darkness. Hole 17 is a par 3 and is the number 18 stroke hole. The player will record 3 (par) plus 1 (handicap stroke to which he is entitled) for an X-4 on hole 17. Hole 18 is a par 4 and is the number 6 stroke hole. The player will record 4 (par) plus 2 (handicap strokes to which he is entitled) for an X-6 on hole 18. Adjusted Score: Equitable Stroke Control Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player s potential ability. ESC sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player s Course Handicap. ESC is used only when a player s actual or most likely score exceeds his maximum number based on the table below but is applied to all scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores. There is no limit to the number of holes on which a player may adjust his score. Please be aware of your current course handicap and your maximum ESC score for your handicap when posting your score. You must adjust your ESC score downward prior to posting in the GHIN computer. Course Handicap Maximum Number On Any Hole 9 or less Double Bogey 10 through through through or more 10 NINE HOLE COURSE HANDICAP MAXIMUM NUMBER POSTED ON ANY HOLE 4 or less Double Bogey 5 through through through or more 10 PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO POST SCORE A penalty score is a score posted by the Handicap Committee for a player who does not return a score or who otherwise does not observe the spirit of the USGA Handicap System. TOURNAMENT SCORES

9 Acceptable scores from tournaments must be designated as such when they are posted. Tournament Scores or T Scores are an essential part of a golfers USGA handicap index. It is incumbent upon all members to know how to designate a score as a T Score. Our Starter or Professional Golf Staff can show you how this is done. The following list of 2017 Tournaments must be posted as T Scores : Presidents Cup; Survivor; Men s and Ladies Club Championship; Men s and Ladies Member Guest Specials; Interclub Matches. AWAY/ACTIVE & NON-ACTIVE SCORES Acceptable scores played away from GRCC must be posted as soon as possible after the round is played. You must have the Course Rating and Slope from the golf course played. Our local computers contain this information for most New Jersey Golf courses. If the away match was a competitive tournament it should be posted as a T Score. Away scores from rounds played during our inactive season (November to March ) should be posted at the time of play. Only scores from golf courses that are in their active season are acceptable. HANDICAP AVAILABILITY Handicaps are posted on the inside the Men s Locker Room, Ladies Locker Room, and the Golf Shop. Individual cards are available in the Golf Shop. The GHIN computers contain current handicap information along with a history of scores and trend information. There is also an interactive web site, It contains current handicap information as well and can the periodic handicap revisions. Regular Member Tournaments Entry to tournament events will be restricted to Regular, Senior, Super Senior, Associate and Legacy Members who have contributed to the Prize Fund. Entry in any event constitutes acceptance of such Prize Fund charge. All entries must be posted before leaving first tee. There are no exceptions. No such Member shall be eligible to participate in any of the weekend or holiday tournaments if he tees off after 12:00pm, and must play with another Member who is a Regular, Senior, Super Senior, Associate or Legacy members. Please do not enter match play events unless you have every expectation of being available to play on the days for which the events are scheduled. Similarly, such Members should not enter tournament events unless they are able and willing to schedule the required match for normal times on weekends. In the event that participants are not able to agree on a date or time before the last scheduled date for that round, the match must be played by 9:00 AM that day. Any participants not present at 9:00am will default. In the event that the golf course is not playable on the last day the match is to be played the Golf and Tournament Committee may grant a postponement. Players competing in a match play event are not eligible for medal play tournaments. Any Member, who enters the Presidents Cup, Survivor or Club and Senior Championship of all classes, and then defaults, will be disqualified from playing in the same tournament the following year. The Golf & Tournament Committee may mitigate this after review, if such default is found to be excusable because of extraordinary circumstances. No alternates will be allowed on default.
