equinelle Resident Club NEWSLETTER August 2018 Seeking Advisory Board Members No doubt every resident club member has and continues to enjoy the benefits of membership in our club. As we all know, the ongoing success of your club is dependent not only on your support, but most importantly, on the active participation and involvement of its members. No event could be held, no activity or facility could operate and the club could not thrive without the contribution and dedication of volunteers. At this time, the club s advisory board is seeking to fill three positions and invites all members to consider stepping forward to join the board. An detailing the process will be sent to all members in the days ahead. Nominations will be accepted between August 1st and August 31st, Results of the nomination process and details on the voting procedure will be provided the first week of September. Depending on the number of nominations received, should a vote be necessary, it will take place the second week of September. Thanks to everyone for your consideration in filling one of the vacancies. Change to Membership Fees Members will have received the notice from equinelle Developments Inc. that a new tiered membership rate plan is being instituted effective September 15, resulting in a yearly rate increase for couples and family memberships. As this decision was made solely by EDI, any comments or questions in this regard should be directed to Josh Kardish at JKardish@eqhomes.ca. PAGE 1

RESIDENT CLUB NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2018 Fitness Corner Submitted by Anna Best Two workshops were held in July to help shape a fitness strategy that will be responsive to the needs of resident club members. A number of decisions made by the participants were subsequently presented as part of the June monthly report to the Advisory Board. Let your voice be heard. An online survey to establish fitness programs and scheduling preferences by members will be conducted in August. Please take the time to count yourself in! News from the Pool Entrance to the pool gate will be modified in the coming weeks to require FOB access. In June, adjustments were made to the operation of the pool. Just a reminder - pool hours and user responsibilities are displayed in the pool area for everyone s guidance. For the safety and comfort of all members, please take the time to return water toys/noodles to the storage bins, close umbrellas and return chairs to original spots after use. Facilities Update Users of the gym will notice the additions of several pieces of new equipment to the facility. We are fortunate to have one of the most accessible and best equipped exercise rooms anywhere, so, no matter your level of fitness, if you have been thinking about getting more physically active, drop by and check out your gym! 3 equinelle Golf Committee By Dennis Martel Some equinelle members have had some fantastic results in tournament play since the beginning of the golf season. We would like to acknowledge the following equinelle members and teams on their recent success. Logan Henry won his flight in the Flagstick Open at equinelle beating some of the best players in the Ottawa Valley. Cathy Lalonde and Susan Legault won their flight at the OVGA Marjorie Strong tournament in a playoff. Diane Miller and Carolyn Richardson teamed up to win their flight at the OVGA Ethel Ferguson tournament. The equinelle women s intersectional team won their flight in July by a single point led by a six point performance by Carmen Saumure and they will now graduate to the next flight next year. The equinelle men s intersectional team dominated their competitors in their flight in July accumulating 52 out of a possible 60 points. Six point earners were Steve Papousek, Sean Miller, Marc Ethier, Wes Cory, Logan Henry, Derek McLean and Owen Henry. equinelle also hosted their first annual Member Guest tournament on June 29 th. This was a remarkable day where we got the opportunity to showcase our beautiful facility. Everyone enjoyed a round of golf, lunch and a delicious dinner with guests and members all having a great day. Our men s and women s leagues are enjoying record attendance this year and are always a highlight of everyone s week. These leagues will run right through September. We will also be running competitions for our men s and women s senior intersectional teams this month as well as our first Mixed Team Championship. Sign up in the pro shop. Lastly. Club Championship weekend at equinelle is scheduled for the weekend of August 25 / 26. Sign up in the pro shop or just come out to cheer on the competitors. Good Golfing! Ed. Note. See Page 11 for results of the July 29 th Mixed Club Championship. PAGE 3

Corn Roast Anyone? As last year s corn roast proved to be very popular among resident club members, it is not too early to start thinking about continuing this successful event...but in order to do so organizers will need to step up! This will be the third year so it will not have to be done from scratch. We know the what and how! Anyone interested in forming an organizing committee is encouraged to contact one of your advisory board members or by sending an to info@equinelleresidentclub.com. POOP AND SCOOP Help keep our benches, play structures and grass green and clean. Please be a good neighbour and respect community property, clean up after your dog. 5 CLUB NEWS BOOK CLUB STAINED GLASS GROUP IS VERY ACTIVE! Tuesday afternoon is still available for Stained Glass. Thank you to a couple of residents who have donated glass and some tools which are available for members to use. Please come in and help yourself. If you require instruction please contact Keith Nixon at keithisaway@gmail.com to ensure that someone will be available to assist. The eq Book Club meets on the third Thursday of every month in the library, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. In August the book club meeting will be held on Thursday August 16 th. Book selection is A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles. ART GROUP The beautiful weather has not stopped the art group from getting together on Thursday afternoons to spend some time painting. During our time together we offer advice or comment on each other s painting or discuss a variety of subjects. It seems that we only just get started when it s time pack up and leave. Painting or drawing is a very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours which passes so quickly that you don t even realize that the time has gone. Should anyone wish to join us on a Thursday afternoon please contact Ann Martin at annmartin50@sympatico.ca for details on what is needed to get started with this fascinating hobby. In September the meeting will be held on Thursday, September 20 th and the book selection is The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. For additional information, please contact Elisa Lane at: elisalane5@gmail.com See Photography Club ad on Page13. PAGE 5

equinelle Resident Club Website Submitted by the Website Committee On July 16th, the Resident Club Advisory Board held its first Members Appreciation event cosponsored by TMSI and the Advisory Board. Hosted by the Website Team, this sold-out event provided a great opportunity to thank members for supporting their work and also to collect valuable information regarding user satisfaction. 43 % of members access the website from their desktop computers compared to 37% who prefer to use a tablet and 20% who rely on their mobile device. Building a Strong Foundation August 2nd will mark our six month anniversary. The following snapshot highlights how far we have come in creating a high quality website for resident club members: Online registration to weekly activities and social events is by far the most popular interactive service. The calendar of activities and events is viewed over 200 times a month and is well on its way in becoming the go to place to find out what s happening at the club. The online searchable member directory is a vast improvement over its predecessor, the dated pdf directory. But there is more to be done. Thank you for taking the time to answer questions, telling us what we are doing right and bringing to our attention where we aren t measuring up. PAGE 6

Residents enjoy the first Member Appreciation event sponsored by the Advisory Board and TMSI, hosted by the Website Committee. Don t forget to check off the Remember Me box at the bottom of the Login Screen. This will eliminate the need to enter the 6 digit caption code during the online registration process. FRIENDLY REMINDER Interested in attending the next Members Appreciation Event? You need your own address to register online. Click here to find out how to create your own Gmail account. PAGE 7

Update from the Social Events Committee: Elvis was in the Building! Resident Club Members enjoyed themselves and danced up a storm at the sold out June 23 rd King & Si Show. The second Trivia Night with Stephen Grant from Magnum Opus Trivia was held on Tuesday July 10 th proving there are many of us who are smarter than a Fifth Grader. Eddy & the Stingrays are returning to the Resident Member Club on Saturday Aug. 11 th. Thank you to Members again supporting a sold out event. Saturday, December 8 th 2018 has been reserved for your Resident Club Member Holiday Season Event. A big Thank You to members who took time from their busy schedules and responded to the recent questionnaire sent out by the Social Events Committee. Your feedback, questions, and/or concerns are always appreciated. PAGE 8

Wow! What a Show! Pickleball Summer Invitational Tournament On July 29th, pickleball players came out to play and enjoy a day of friendly and sometimes intense competition. The day was exceptionally well organized thanks to the efforts of the committee members: Linda MacLeod, Penny Pepin, Sandy Armstrong, Pearl Webb, José Van Zijl and Yvonne Latta. We had an amazing turnout of 34 players (including two guests from the Kemptville Pickleball Club) in three groups - Men s and Ladies A Division and Mixed B Division. Each player had a minimum of five games before some advanced to the playoff rounds. And what games they were! The crowd was treated to so many exciting and close games. It was just as much fun to be a spectator well almost! Winners were: A Division Gold - Linda MacLeod & Michel Pelletier Silver - Eva Phaneuf & Jim Murphy Bronze - Nancy & Rob Longpré Group B - Mixed Division Gold - Diane Charlebois & Barb Davidson Silver - Lynda Therrien & Karin Van Buskirk Bronze - Kathy Ranger & Jeff Norman A special trophy for highest points overall in the five qualifying games went to Diane Charlebois and Rob Longpré. Both had five wins and the least points scored against them. Well done! Special thanks go out to TMSI for providing a continental breakfast for the morning and a fabulous buffet dinner in the evening. The food was delicious and there was certainly lots of it! In addition, we want to acknowledge the prizes provided by Mike Taylor. The quality and generosity of the gifts provided was just amazing. EQ Homes and TMSI also provided great prizes as well as the KIN Vineyard located in Carp. We also raised $185 for the Kemptville Hospital in the 50/50 draw. Thanks go out to everyone for coming out and supporting our great club. (See pics on next page.) PAGE 9

Golf Update from Page 3 EQuinelle Golf Club had its first Mixed Club Championship this year. The format was split sixes: 6 holes each of Alternate Shot, Net Best Ball and Scramble. There was lots of laughter or shouts of Oops when your partner puts you in the sand trap and you have to take the next shot! Handicaps helped many of the newer players who could now compete on a level playing field. Winners overall were Kerri Seabrook and Larry Colborn. Overall net winners were Mitch Barsalou and Barb Brown. Other winners were Patti and Warren Henry where Patti got 3 amazing birdies on her own (leave the putter in the bag, Warren, she s got this). Mary Lauzon got a net 1 on Hole #8. We all enjoyed the snacks and camaraderie on the terrace as we watched our fellow competitors come. Thanks to Andy Legault and James Paterson for organizing this event. We hope to see a full field next year. PAGE 11

Welcome to new equinelle residents For many people, deciding to move to equinelle is more than just purchasing a new home it s all about living in a great community. Making new friends, finding out what services are available and just feeling at home are all important aspects to a successful move. The Resident Club Welcoming Committee s goal is to meet with each new owner and introduce them to our club and our community. To that end, they have put together a welcome package that includes community information, discounts and complimentary coupons from health food stores, local coffee shops and our own Fireside Grill. In addition they are available to provide tours of the club. Ambassadors can link new residents to the coordinators of activities of interest; for example, pickleball instruction, cards, crafts, etc. Our committee members are: Sandy Armstrong Diana Berry Diane Charlebois Sue Hinves Val Jackson Susanne McLoughlin Kathy Vanderwel Nikki Wilmore - Chair If you moved in during June or July and have not heard from this committee please contact Diane Charlebois at: charlebd2003@yahoo.ca and one of the ambassadors will pay you a visit.
