Most recently, Jammy was TCC s Banquet Manager and recently accepted the offer of Clubhouse Manager. Jammy has extensive experience in Food & Beverage and Dining operations. He graduated from Kansas State University with a B.A. in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Jammy is a veteran of the United States Army and served for 2 years including Desert Storm. He has four children, three grown and one in High School. Jammy enjoys traveling and experiencing food and dining wherever the road takes him. He has been to all 48 contiguous states and loves the scenery America has to offer. His bucket list includes traveling to all 50 one day! Jammy is excited to lead our Food & Beverage operations and is seeking to obtain his CMA (Club Managers Association) certification. He looks forward to continue to get to know the membership. 2 Message from the President By Clay Meininger, TCC President & COO First off, I would like to Thank You, our members, for your support and excitement for TCC s newest culinary experience! 1905 has sold out each and every week, Thanks to YOU! 1905 is a culinary adventure that takes place on Saturday nights. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. with Dinner served at 7:05 p.m. or 1905 (military time). As many of you know, Topeka Country Club was established in 1905, which was the inspiration for the name. Reservations can be made 30 days in advance with a maximum of six members per reservation. Be sure to call at, 30 days in advance to make your reservation at 1905 we have sold out each Saturday night dining experience in the first 10 minutes. I would also like to welcome Jammy Lewis as your new Clubhouse Manager. Jammy is dedicated to making TCC the best it can be and I know he looks forward to getting to know each of our members! Please stop by and meet him if you haven t already done so! As many of you know, in February, Chris Rhoads was hired for the Clubhouse Manager position. Due to a family matter, Chris needed to do what was best for his family and be in Kansas City full time. We wish Chris and his family the best and thank him for his time here at TCC. We welcome Jammy as he takes the reigns to lead our Food & Beverage operations. We look forward to a fun-filled summer and seeing you at the Club as the warm Kansas weather approaches! Message from the Chef By Shawn Hartwig, Executive Chef Thank you to everyone who has tried 1905 so far! I look forward in the coming months to taking those of you that have yet to experience the unique journey 1905 has to offer! You won t be disappointed! For those whom I will be seeing in upcoming weeks, just remember I ll be contacting you to make sure your experience is as special as possible. We work hard to tailor a fresh, seasonal menu for each Saturday s group. Along with all the other fun things we have going on at TCC, I m really looking forward to the Opening Day at the pool. A new Pool Menu and Fresh-Squeezed Margaritas are a few things to be unveiled. The Mangorita is so tasty, it should almost be served by appointment only. Make your appointment today! The Pool opens on Saturday, May 23...we look forward to seeing you then! The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner. I can t promise I m a good gambler, but I will put out quite a spread and I ll help you pick a couple winners! 3 Golf News By Cory Proehl, Head Golf Professional DEMO DAY Please join us for Demo Day on May 15 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. The following companies will be at TCC with the latest and greatest equipment for you to try out; Taylormade, Titleist, Callaway, Adams and Cleveland TCC JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM INFORMATION: We hope that golf is the first activity scheduled for your children and grandchildren in Junior Golf kicks off on June 10, with clinic times by assigned age groups. Price per child is $150. Ages 5-9 from 8:00-8:50 a.m. Ages from 9:00-9:50 a.m. Ages 13+ from 10:00-10:50 a.m. Course Play will take place on Fridays throughout June & July. If you have questions regarding Junior Golf or wish to register a child by phone, please call the Golf Shop at (785) ADULT GOLF CLINICS 2015 Adult Golf Clinics will run from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the summer and will consist of teaching and drills provided by one or more of the golf professionals. Course play will be implemented to give participants insight on golf course management and situations. Please call the Golf Shop to register for clinic dates on May 7 and May 28. Cost for each clinic is $20 per person. 6 Tennis News By Junior Brown, Director of Tennis Being outside on the courts everything begins to take a different look and feel. It is a great time to be a tennis player! We have so much to look forward to as we enter this outdoor season. The summer session of Junior Tennis kicks off June 1 and goes through August 7. We also have the summer sports camps various weeks throughout the summer. Our junior clinic program offers classes for the highly skilled junior player as well as your little 4 year old that is ready to take his/her first swing! In early June we will have our annual club championships tournament giving our youngsters a wonderful environment to compete in and for a chance to win an awesome trophy. FREE FOR ALL Saturday, May 16 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Join us for drills, fun, and games at our Free for All event. Play is from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Bring a friend. Cost is $25. Sign up at the Tennis Center or by calling (785) News By Leo Pellant, Greens Superintendent Spring maintenance on the golf course is in full swing. Warmer than normal temperatures and timely rains during the middle of April resulted in a flush of growth and an early green-up. Green s aerification in late March went well. Over 50 tons of sand was used during the aerification process. The greens were cored with 5/8 inch tines on 2 inch centers. The plugs were verti-cut along with the sand and then drug back into the holes. With the older push-up greens we have at TCC, aerification is necessary for the survival of the bent grass on the greens. This aerification process results in a reduction of surface compaction, increased water infiltration capabilities, thatch control and reduction. Once again the spring planting season is upon us. Golf course staff members under Steve Sidebottom s guidance have done an exceptional job growing bedding plants for the landscape beds here at the club. Several thousand plants have been grown in the greenhouse this winter and spring for the upcoming season. We hope to add some additional beds near the first tee to enhance the beauty of the golf course near the clubhouse. We are looking forward to a successful golf season this year and look forward to seeing you on the golf course. Please call us with any questions or concerns you may have about your golf course.
