1 QUEANBEYAN GOLF CLUBNEWSLETTER Issue39 1 Out of the Rough November 2017 Presidents Message From Adrian Coles Hello fellow members, well we are in to November and the Club Championships have been held and won for another year! Congratulations to all of our winners who fought off some keen competition on the final day to come out victorious. Congratulations and thank you to all those who participated this year, perhaps 2017/18 will see the improvement needed to challenge for next years prizes. Also, a special thank you to those members and staff who contributed to the successful running of the Championships, including our Match and Greens committee members, Jake and the staff of the Pro Shop, our Greens Staff and the many volunteers that assisted across these areas. With November upon us it s a great time of the year for celebrations and please remember your club as a place to hold such events. David, Jo and Shiona are waiting for your call or enquiry in person to make those bookings. Don t forget that the annual Presentation Night is being held on Saturday 25th November. Let s make an effort to get together as a club and celebrate the year. Discuss with your regular playing partners the prospect of forming a table for the night and bring along the nonplaying significant others of the household so that they can appreciate why we all love the place so much. Keep an eye out for more information regarding this event on the notice board during November. On the financial side of things, the clubs auditors have been in recently to review the 2016/17 results and we are awaiting that report. Whilst there will be some improvement on the 2015/16 results there is still a lot of work to be done to secure the long-term future of our club and all that it has to offer. Participation as a member on the course in the various competitions is certainly an important aspect of this, but so too is participation as a member within the clubhouse after your game even if it s just for one beverage before you leave, it will make an enormous difference if our patronage within can increase! Best wishes and enjoyable golfing. What s in this Edition? Presentation Night AGM Junior Clinic

It would be great if and when you need to move a rope, hoop or sign that you replace it to its original position. The Greens staff place these hoops, ropes and signs periodically around the course to protect new work and regenerate worn areas.

4 QUEANBEYAN GOLF CLUBNEWSLETTER Issue39 4 GM s Update From David Doyle The club seems to come alive as soon as the weather starts to warm, we have had quite a few functions and well attended lunches and dinners lately. We hosted a reunion for the Tralee Speedway during October and it was a great success for the organisers and for the club, with over 100 attending the all-day affair. Another big event was the hosting of the Australasian Firies Golf Day, with over 140 players, great fun was had by all. They really enjoyed the course and the welcome they received in the clubhouse. A big thanks to Steve Clyde-Smith and Richard Maloney for organising the day. Our catering is going from strength to strength and this month Victor Prineas has signed a new catering agreement with the club to take over the reins of the Bistro / Kitchen, from his father Peter. We welcome Victor who brings a wealth of experience from running his own restaurants and café s in the area for many years. There are plans to keep improving the Bistro offering and we are very excited about the future. Our forward bookings for functions and golf days is very promising. We still need our members to think of us when organising an event, party, get together, or reunion. Our new poker machine areas, inside and outside are starting to look good. Since I arrived here last year my biggest ambition was to increase the number of machines outside, but financial constraints would not allow it. A few months ago, I asked the Board to give me a small budget to make the new room outside happen, so for a comparatively small amount we now have double the machines outside that we had. Without giving away any secrets, there is potential for outdoor machines to earn a higher revenue than those inside, which of course is the reason we have doubled the number outside. We have also purchased some new machines to enhance the player experience, as they say. The course is looking a picture and I have received many compliments from visiting golfers about its presentation, well done to Bryan and his team. We have a new Bar Manager in Jesse Anderson, he has moved here from the Central Coast and is enjoying our wonderful mild climate. Please make him welcome. A reminder that our Presentation Night is Saturday 25 November, tickets from the office, and the AGM is on Tuesday 28 November. See you in our club and hopefully soon on the golf course. Opening of the Wal Harrison Path Daniel Goodchild, Fiona Harrison and Lachlan Tisma
