C O M P A G E 2 Current And Former Cowboy Golfers Have Excellent June Parish And Allen Win State Tournaments, While Maier Wins Professional Event Leading the month off was incoming-freshman Kamrin Allen who won the Wyoming State Golf Association Match Play Championship at Rolling Greens Golf Club in Green River, Wyo. Current Cowboy Eric Parish followed that up with three great rounds to take the medalist honors at the Colorado Golf Association Public Links Championship at Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor, Colo., on June Adding to UW's weekend former Cowboy Gabe Maier overcame a six-stroke deficit to win the 48thannual San Juan Open at the San Juan Country Club in Farmington, N.M. Former Cowboy and current Professional Golf Association member David Hearn has also had an excellent run this summer making seven-consecutive cuts and moving to 99th on the PGA money list. Allen, a native of Sheridan, Wyo., won the Wyoming State Match Play event on June 9 with four-consecutive victories. He entered the event as the 15th-ranked player and began playing the second-ranked player Jason Tharp and defeated him one-up. Allen continued his run defeating No. 7 Dave Balling, 6-and-5 in 18 holes. He won another close match in the semifinal defeating Riverton's PJ Thomas 2-and-1. In the final, Allen continued his streak of close victories defeating John Hornbeck 2-and-1 in 18 holes. "I am very excited for Kamrin," Wyoming Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "For him to win a great event like the Wyoming State Match Play at such a young age is terrific. I am looking forward to having him in our program for four years." Parish, a junior and hometown Cowboy from Laramie, won the Colorado Golf Association Public Links State Championship on Sunday, June 24. He tied the second-best CGA Public Links score with a three-round total of 200 (-13). Parish began the tournament with a 67 (-4) in the first round and continued with a round two 68 (-3) to sit three strokes behind the leaders. He finished the tournament on a hot streak shooting a six-under 65 in the final round. Parish used 23 putts and carded seven birdies during Sunday's final round to take home the championship. "Eric has been playing great golf this summer," Jensen said. "This is arguably one of the top three best amateur events in Colorado and for him to win it is very exciting. He defeated all the top amateurs in Colorado, including all the Colorado, Colorado State and Denver golfers." Maier, a 2011 graduate of UW and native of Cody, won his first-career professional event with a four-round score of 269 (-15) at the 48th-annual San Juan Open. Maier began the tournament striking the ball excellent, firing a first round 65 (-5), that featured a hole-in-one and two double-eagles. His 65 (-6) led all scorers in the first round. In the second round, he dropped four places into a tie for fifth after shooting an even-par 71. He fired his second under-par round of the tournament in the third round of 68 (-3) which pulled him within six strokes of the lead. In the final round, Maier was forced to overcome a six-stroke deficit. Maier was sixunder and tied for the lead with two holes to play. He scrambled on both 17 and 18 to make par and went to the clubhouse to wait for the final group finish. Both the leaders in the final group bogeyed the difficult par-3 18th hole giving Maier his first career professional victory. "This is a great win for Gabe," Jensen said. "This (San Juan Open) is a very good professional regional event in New Mexico. It shows that he is playing very well and gives him a great boost to become a professional player." Hearn, a PGA professional since 2010, is enjoying an excellent season on tour. He has currently made his last seven cuts and placed in the top 25 in four of those seven events. He is 100th in the FEDEX Cup Standings with 350 total points and sits in 99th on the PGA money list. Hearn and his wife Heather, just welcomed their first child Ella Ashley Hearn earlier this month. "I am very happy to see David playing well this season," Jensen said. "He is a legitimate player on the PGA tour and Wyoming golf continues to support and hope the best for him. I also wanted to say congratulations to David and Heather for the birth of their daughter."

C O M Cowgirls Excel in Summer Tournament Play Newcomers Gear up for Collegiate Play In their final hurrah competing for their respective high schools, incoming freshmen Kathleen Kershisnik, Tyler Barker and Kourtney Williams all placed third or better in their state high school championships. Kershisnik lost on the second playoff hole of the Colorado 4A State High but her stellar season earned her another All-Colorado recognition. Barker, a two-time state champion, finished third in the Idaho 5A State High School Championship and Williams carded a second place finish in the Minnesota State High School Championships with her under par second round performance. Tyler Barker also recently qualified for the Big I National Junior Championships in Texas and Kershisnik finished tied for sixth at the Colorado Junior Stroke Play Championship. P A G E 3 Colorado Open Fresh off her award winning and final year as a Cowgirl, Juanita Rico began her summer play at the Colorado Open Professional event where she finished 21st overall and was the third lowest amateur in the field this past June. Senior to-be, Dana Zamprelli, also competed and narrowly missed the cut by one stroke. Also in the highly competitive field were Cowgirls Samantha Stancato, Emily Woodard and Kathleen Kershisnik. Tri-State Invitational Dana Zamprelli and Emily Woodard lit up the Cheyenne Country Club early July, finishing first and third respectively. Zamprelli finished the tournament at three under while Woodard was six over for two rounds.
