5 Worthington Hills Garden Club The Worthington Hills Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of each month excluding January and July, at 11 AM at the Worthington Hills Country Club. A brief business meeting is followed by lunch at noon and a speaker at 1 pm. The November 14 program will tell the history of many of the wonderful plants at the Franklin Park Conservatory. WHCC Rain Gardens Worthington Hills Country Club, in a joint effort with the Worthington Hills Garden Club and other local conservation groups, is installing two rain gardens along the grounds behind the paddle tennis courts and adjacent to the golf course. The rain gardens will help reduce harmful runoff created by heavy rainstorms and snow melts that carry pollutants that would otherwise end up in the Olentangy River. These pollutants include excess lawn fertilizer, dog waste, winter de-icing agents, etc., all of which have a detrimental effect on the flora and fauna of the river. These two rain gardens were installed in September, and funded in part by a grant from the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District. In addition to increasing the absorption of excess water the native plants included in these areas will create a beneficial habitat for birds, butterflies, and other pollinators. It will take a few growing seasons before the plants mature and the full benefits are realized, but in the end the rain gardens will provide a necessary and attractive aid to the runoff problem, and will help protect the natural beauty of the Olentangy River and its inhabitants. WHCC Dress Code Indoor Grill Room, Lounge and Bar Areas: Proper golf attire, which includes appropriate shorts and shirts tucked in. Men and boys, eight and older, should have collared shirts or an appropriate pullover. Ladies dresses or sundresses and shorts should have appropriate cuts and lengths. Business attire is always suitable. Tasteful denim is permitted, and is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and consistent in color. Tasteful denim does not include holes or rips, frayed material, denim shorts, work type denim shirts, bibs, painter pants, or jeans that are worn extremely low cut. Tennis attire is permitted in the Lounge and Bar areas. Club events and Holiday brunches will also adhere to these dress codes. Hats, swimwear, t-shirts, gym shorts, sweat pants, and hoodie sweatshirts are not permitted in these areas. Men s Grill Room: Proper golf, tennis and fitness attire is permitted. Tasteful denim is permitted, and is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and consistent in color. There are s ome exciting new developments for the Learning Center this year. With the most recent update of the TrackMan Performance Studio software we are now able to provide you with a tremendous virtual experience all in one location. TrackMan has updated their graphics and added nearly 10 golf courses for play and on course practice. It will truly provide you with an all encompassing practice and play experience that trumps anything we ve had access to in the past. To help you better utilize the Learning Center this indoor season the golf shop will be providing a 10 minute practice planning session at the end of every scheduled lesson. In this session we will provide you with a walk through of the new software update and how to use it to practice what we worked on during the lesson. The golf course was in great shape despite all of the rain we have had and the temperatures were near perfect! This event is held exclusively for the top point earners in the season long points standings. 24 men and 12 ladies squared off in their respective divisions in a Ryder Cup style event. This year, the Blue teams took home the Worthington Cup in both the Men s and Ladies Divisions. On the Men s side, the Blue team scored a total of 18 points which was good enough for a 6 point margin of victory over the White team. On the Ladies side of the competition, the Blue team had a commanding victory leading all three sessions. The White team fought hard on Sunday, but could not overcome the fine play of the Blue Team. 11 FROM THE COURTS... WHCC Platform Tennis News Fall is finally here. If you played tennis, pickleball, golf or just want to have fun outdoors this fall and winter, platform tennis may be for you. Platform tennis is a game similar to tennis but played on a smaller court with rules that allow for the fences to be in play. We have four courts, with lights for day and night play, and if you have played before you know how much fun it is to be outside on a brisk fall day getting a good workout and having some friendly competition. 101 Clinics The best way to get started no matter what your level is to come to one of our 101 clinics. We will provide an overview of the rules, equipment and do some drills to understand the basic shots. A 101 clinics for adult men and women will be held Sunday, November 4th from 1:00-2:15pm. There will be additional 101 clinics in December and January. Practice paddles and balls will be available. Just bring yourself. 201 Clinics We have had requests from people who have played for a little while and want to learn more about strategy, court positioning as well as practicing advance shots like lobs and hitting balls off the screen. The 201 clinic for adult men and women will also be Sunday, November 4th with both going from 2:30-4:00pm. Equipment There is a limited number of paddles and used balls for practice in the platform tennis hut. New equipment and new balls are available in the golf proshop and fitness center.
