1 NSA Official Notices Monday, April 10, 2017 Course Report Atlanta The Atlanta race course was inspected on April 2, 2017 by Jim Wayt and Neil Harrison. Turf: Kingston Downs has benefitted from a mild winter, timely rains and is responding well to fertilizing and aeration. The fescue/bluegrass turf mix is well established and has continued to improve over time with good root structure and depth development. The course will be mowed regularly during this prime growing season creating a thick carpet like feel and appearance. There are some patches of other grasses (bermuda and rye) and minimal spots of broad leaf weeds. Smoothness: The course has been aerated and rolled. The ground is smooth throughout. Compaction: Average: 135 (Firm) Moisture: Average: 5 (Average) Note: the most recent rainfall was three days prior to the date of inspection. Kingston Downs will be irrigated as necessary until race day. Note: Kingston Downs continues to improve with age. The course condition on race day should be equal to or better than its high ratings in recent years. Atlanta Race Condition Changes The $15,000 Maiden Claiming Hurdle (#27) has been cancelled and the purse for the Allowance Optional Claiming Hurdle (#30) has been increased from $30,000 to $35,000. There will be four races scheduled for Atlanta, a Maiden Hurdle, Filly and Mare Maiden Hurdle, the featured Georgia Cup, and a Training Flat Race, for total purses of $80,000. Course Report Grand National The Grand National race course was inspected on April 9, 2017 by Clerk of Course, Priscilla Hoblitzell. Turf: The course is very even throughout and currently low at approximately 3. Fast growth is expected due to recent abundance of rain combined with current conditions of sun and warmth. We expect to mow the entire course on April 18. Smoothness: The entire course has been Cambridge rolled in the past 72 hours and is quite smooth for open country and paddock circumstance. Compaction: ideal and consistent readings throughout of (Good). Moisture: Readings of no less than 6 (Average) in higher sections of the course and some readings of 10 (Wet) in lower sections beneath thick turf and slightly yielding ground. Nominations for the Grand National (#32) are attached. Course Report Middleburg Spring The Middleburg Spring race course was inspected by Doug Fout on April 7, Turf: The turf consists of fescue. Smoothness: The course is smooth throughout. It was rolled, chain harrowed after the Virginia Fall Races, and aerated on November 11, Compaction: 76 (Yielding) Moisture: 8 (Average Wet) Notes: The course had ¾ of rain on April and 1-1/4 of rain on April 6. The course will be mowed accordingly. The course is in great shape. Nominations for the Middleburg Hunt Cup (#37) and Temple Gwathmey (#38) are attached.

2 Middleburg Substitute Race Purse $15,000. Hurdle. For Maidens, Four Years Old and Upward. Four-year-olds, 144 lbs.; older, 154 lbs. Claiming price $15,000. Entry fee $75; $75 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $150 additional to start. Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences. New NSA Policy- Microchips By order of the NSA Stewards Advisory Committee, horses that have been microchipped per The Jockey Club standards, are eligible to run under NSA rules provided they can be properly scanned and identified. Quick Official The NSA has adopted a quick official policy which requires riders to claim foul immediately after pulling up following a race. There will be a designated NSA official, either on the ground or on horseback, identified with a distinctive vest, that the riders must lodge an objection with regarding an incident occurring during the running of a race. The stewards will be immediately informed of any such objection and if there are none, the race will be declared official before the horses return to be unsaddled. Queen s Cup Substitute Race (Filly and Mare Allowance Hurdle) Purse $25,000. For Fillies and Mares, Four-Years-Old and Upward which have never won two races. Four-year-olds, 145 lbs.; older, 155 lbs. Non-winners of a race, allowed 5 lbs. Entry fee $125; $125 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday, with #250 additional to start. Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences. Ratings Please find the most current ratings list below. If your horse does not appear on the list and you submitted a Horses in Training list, please let the office know. If you did not submit a spring Horses in Training list, please do so and your ratings horses will be added. If you believe your horse needs a ratings review, please request one and the ratings committee will be informed. Finally, if you have a horse on the current ratings list that is out of training for the Spring, please contact us to remove the horse. Early Entries may be submitted on Sundays Trainers who would like to enter early via and/or text message, please do so in writing on Sundays to both Bill Gallo (billgallo@nationalsteeplechase.com ) and Courtney Reid (courtneyreid@nationalsteeplechase.com ). Please make sure all complete and pertinent information for your entry is included and that you have received a confirmation of delivery for the entries you submit Licenses Applications Please submit your 2017 license applications owner/trainer or jockey via , fax or regular mail. You can now make your payment online. Click here to pay for your license after you have submitted your application. Reminder - New Jockey License Applicants License applications for new jockeys must be submitted a minimum of ten (10) days in advance of the race meet for approval by the Stewards Advisory Committee. There will be no exceptions. All new jockey licenses must be accompanied by a copy of a medical insurance card and appropriate written endorsements from NSAlicensed trainers, as indicated on the license application. 3 Apprentice Rider Policy The NSA Stewards Advisory Committee has determined that the NSA Apprentice Rider License Policy for 2017 will be as follows: A rider who has been granted a conditional license may apply to the Stewards Advisory Committee for an unrestricted license after he or she has completed 10 rides to the satisfaction of the Committee. These 10 rides may be at point-to-point or at sanctioned race meets and can have been over timber or hurdles. This license is granted at the discretion of the SAC and may be deferred if the Committee decides the applicant needs more experience before being granted an unrestricted license. $100,000 Willowdale/PA Hunt Cup Challenge Any horse who wins both the Willowdale Steeplechase Amateur Timber Stakes and wins the Pennsylvania Hunt Cup Open Timber Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus.
