1 NSA Official Notices Thursday, October 11, 2018 Far Hills Substitute Race (Ratings Handicap Hurdle) Purse $40,000. Hurdle Handicap. For Four Year Olds and Upward which are rated 115 or lower. The highest rated horse will be assigned 158 lbs. with all other weights adjusted accordingly based on the current ratings. Minimum weight 140 lbs. (not including apprentice allowances). Apprentice allowances may be claimed in this race. Entry fee $200; $200 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday with $400 additional to start. Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences. Far Hills Nominations The nominations with weights for the five (5) Far Hills Stakes Races to be run on Saturday, October 20 th are listed below. As you can see, the nominations for The Peapack, a $75,000 F/M stakes, are light and there is a possibility that this race may not be carded. With that in mind, the Far Hills Race Meeting is prepared to offer an alternative. There are a few options available, not necessarily in this order: -split the maiden hurdle -offer a Ratings Handicap Hurdle (115 or lower) with a $40,000 purse (2-1/8 miles) -or any other option that is in the best interests of the race meet and our horsemen If you are intending to run a horse in the maiden hurdle or the ratings race(s), please call Bill Gallo on his cell phone (443) or notify him on Saturday at the Virginia Fall Races. Far Hills Course Report The Far Hills Race Course was inspected October 5 th by the Clerk of Course Dean Torsilieri. Turf: The entire turf course at Moorland Farm was aerated, slice seeded, and sand top dressed immediately after the Far Hills Race Meeting Association s Fall 2017 meet. Spring 2018 operations included divot repair, fertilization, rolling and aeration. Weekly mowing, weed control, and an aggressive IPM program have continued to keep the quality and consistency of the turf at the highest possible level. The turf is thick, lush, and has a clipped top out height of 6-8. There are a few thin areas in parts of the timber course close to the tree line on the backstretch. Ongoing weed control for this part of the course is in place. Smoothness: The course has been rolled, aerated, and hand walked with root zone mix to fill any divots or cupping. The surface is smooth and consistent with a giving yet firm resiliency. There is NO vehicular traffic allowed on the course at any time Compaction: Readings taken with a Lang Penetrometer put the turf course at a reading of Yielding Moisture: Average to Average Wet 6-8 Notes: Due to the amount of rainfall there are a few areas of weak turf on the outside edge of the course next to the patrol judge lane. There are no compromised areas on any of the actual courses. Far Hills Licensing New Jersey Racing Commission All Owners, Trainers, Assistant Trainers and Jockeys participating in the Far Hills Race Meeting are required to be licensed by the New Jersey Racing Commission (NJRC). The easiest way to obtain a license is by going to the Commission s website ( and click on Licensing Forms on the left-hand side, or by clicking here.

2 Grooms that are licensed in another racing jurisdiction will be granted reciprocity, as long as they bring proof of a current license. Horsemen that ran at Monmouth Park in August should already be licensed. The final phase of the licensing process will be completed Saturday morning on the grounds. NJRC will have a licensing tent located in the barn area. The licensing area will be staffed by 8:30 a.m. People applying for licensure need cash ($132.25) or 2 checks ($82.25 and $50). The first check is for $82.25 which is the cost of fingerprinting. The second check is for $50 which is the cost of the license fee. Checks made payable to the New Jersey Racing Commission. Credit cards are NOT accepted. Attention Trainers With the upcoming pari-mutuel race meets at Far Hills and International Gold Cup, it is imperative that all equipment and medication changes are made at the time of entry. Those changes include: blinkers, cheek pieces, hoods/masks, and Lasix. Please pay particular attention to these details when your entry is made and on race day upon review of your horse s past performance. Pre Race Exams & Lasix Information Mandatory pre-race exams will begin at 8:30am. Bandages are not permitted during the examination. ALL HORSES MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS BY 10:30 AM REGARDLESS OF LASIX TIME If your horse s Lasix time is earlier than 10:30am, it must be on the grounds 4 hours prior to post time of their scheduled race THIRD PARTY FUROSEMIDE (SALIX) ADMINISTRATION: Horsemen are reminded that third party administration of furosemide is in effect at this race meet. See Schedule. If your horse(s) have not previously run on Lasix, a NJRC declaration form MUST BE SUBMITTED PRIOR TO ENTRY.
