Turner Supplementary: SERA Stewards Offices Wednesday 13 th June 2018 The Stewards today opened an inquiry into a complaint from Licensed Trainer John Borham in respect to the conduct of Licensed Stablehand Mr Carlo Bishop on the morning of Thursday 24 th May 2018 at the Queanbeyan racecourse. Evidence was taken from Trainers John and Ben Borham and Mr Bishop. Mr Bishop pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(q) in that on the aforementioned morning he did improperly conduct himself in respect to language he directed to Mr J Borham. Mr Bishop was fined the sum of $200. Supplementary: Sapphire Coast Sunday 10 th June 2018 RACE 7: Dunstan And Smith Commercial Vinyl Laying Class 2 Handicap 1200m Trainer Ms T Bateup subsequently reported that x-rays taken of the gelding following lameness detected post-race, revealed the gelding to have a chip present in its near knee. She advised that the gelding will now have surgery to remove that chip. Riding Changes: As C Reith was unavailable, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions: Race 3 Race 5 Race 8 Explosive Missile C Brown Tiara Road J Penza Fortune Faded B Ryan RACE 1: Waratah Thoroughbreds Maiden Plate 1000m: Denesc On jumping shifted out and bumped High Citadel. McCackie s Girl Slow to begin.

2 2 Miss Victorious Passing the 500m was checked after shifting in and improving to the inside of Beersheba Lass (R Brewer) when that runner then shifted in when not clear. In the circumstances, R Brewer was advised to exercise more care. Held up in the early part of the straight. Held up passing the 200m. Fast Talking Raced very wide throughout. Wilful Soul Raced very wide throughout. Miss Antares When questioned, rider app Ms R King stated that her mount which was resuming did not show its customary early speed today and when she did not believe her mount had the necessary pace to cross, her mount was obliged to race three wide throughout. She added however her mount did not travel well at any stage of the event and proved disappointing in its failure to respond to her riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Fertile Soil Raced wide throughout. Dawn Moon After the 400m was steadied when disappointed for a run between Gundy and High Citadel. Port Of Jeddah On straightening was disappointed for a run between Fast Talking and Beersheba Lass which shifted out. Passing the 250m was restrained when disappointed for a run and passing the 200m had to be shifted out to obtain clear running. RACE 2: Goulpro Class 2 Handicap 1000m: Scarlet Cape The gelding which was resuming from a lengthy spell underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Eagle Stryke A pre-race veterinary examination of the mare which sustained a minor laceration to its off-hind leg ruled the mare unfit to start. The mare was withdrawn at 11:52am. Trainer Mr B Borham was told that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the mare being permitted to race again. Moralist Correct weight was delayed at the request of connections to have the gelding declared a non-runner on grounds of being denied a fair start. On the evidence it was established that the gelding had been agitated in the barrier stalls and during that time the cross-over noseband had been accidently dislodged. However after being refitted and when the start was effected the gelding began awkwardly and ran out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider and lost considerable ground. The application was therefore denied with the gelding being declared a runner. At a subsequent inquiry stable foreman Mr C McCollum was told that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the Steward s satisfaction prior to being permitted

3 3 to race again. Rider N Barzalona was reminded to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race, as on this occasion he had sat up over the final two strides. O So Tempting Slow to begin and bumped on jumping by Twirling Moss which shifted out. Scarlet Cape Held up on straightening and until passing the 250m. Twirling Moss Laid out over the final 50m. Shoal River Laid in over the final 150m. RACE 3: Goulburn Mazda Class 1 Handicap 1400m: Keep Me Posted A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding which had a small amount of swelling to its near-hind leg, cleared the gelding fit to start. Quite Unexpected Slow to begin. Yesteryear Bounded on jumping. Whanau Force Co-trainer Mr M Kearney was told a warning would be recorded against the gelding which missed the start (4L). Quite Unexpected Raced three wide throughout. Yesteryear Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Mister McIlroy Held up for clear running until passing the 250m. Music Miss Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Passing the 30m was obliged to shift to the inside of Quite Unexpected to continue into clear running. RACE 4: Divall s Earthmoving Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400m: Excited Prince Slow to begin. Dynamic Destiny Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to take up the lead. Dorf Star A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Radesky App Ms C Gravener (Halberd) represented by trainer Mr W Hudd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that after the 1100m she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of Radesky which lost its running and had to be restrained. App Ms Gravener s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday 23

4 4 June and to expire on Monday 26 June 2018 on which day she may ride. In assessing penalty consideration was given to this being Ms Gravener s first breach of the Rule. RACE 5: Fair Dinkum Sheds Goulburn Benchmark 62 Handicap 1600m: Respun Bumped on jumping by Sparsholt which shifted out. Alsoknownas Slow to begin and bumped by Ticked which after also being slow to begin, shifted out. Held up in the early part of the straight. Lady Elizabeth Held up rounding the home turn and until passing the 200m. Tiara Road Held up in the early part of the straight. Confidential Passing the 50m B Ward, rider of the gelding was accidently struck on his right arm by the whip of J Penza rider of Tiara Road. Appetizing Trainer Mr J Austin was fined the sum of $50 under AR140A(2) for presenting the gelding in the mounting enclosure without its blinkers. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and then raced in restricted room between the 300m and the 200m when improving to the inside of Sparsholt. RACE 6: Goulburn Express Freight Maiden Handicap 1600m: Westrock The gelding which was very late arriving on course due to transport difficulties was a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 2:36pm. Foxy Touch Leaving the mounting enclosure when being led out, got its head down and in the incident its bridle was dislodged prompting its rider C Brown to dismount. The filly then cantered some distance before returning to the mounting enclosure and heading up to the tieup stall area where it slipped over and sustained a laceration to its near knee which required the attention of the veterinary officer. The filly also sustained general abrasions. The filly was a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 3:03pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on Foxy Touch be refunded in full and further that all successful bets placed with bookmakers prior to 3:03pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st : Denver: 18c win and 17c place 2 nd : Burrangong: 23c place 3 rd : Lady Eleanor: 13c place Trainer Mr K Goldman was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly being permitted to race again.

5 5 Vice Vice Baby Over-raced in the early and middle stages and passing the 700m was restrained when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Bless Him. RACE 7: S & K Wilson Plumbing Benchmark 55 Handicap 2120m: Aussie Abu As D Panya was unavailable, Stewards permitted Ms K Adams to be substituted as the rider of the gelding. Sans Cliche Slow to begin. Serilda Slow to begin. Hendo s Magic Rider J Ford reported that his mount hung out from the 700m. Smoke Of Luck An inquiry was opened into the reasons why the gelding struck heels and blundered passing the 500m. Whilst it was established at this point of the race that Counterfire was positioned to the outside of the gelding and Magic Thor to its inside with Romance Can Costa to that runners inside, despite the oral evidence of the riders concerned and owing to camera angles which did not assist, Stewards were unable to make a conclusive determination as to the cause of the interference suffered by Smoke Of Luck and so all riders were generally reminded of their obligation to provide their fellow rider with sufficient racing room. Swindlers Miss - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Romance Can Costa Became held up passing the 300m and until passing the 200m when it was shifted in to obtain clear running. RACE 8: Revolution Print Maiden Handicap 1300m: Chorus Change of tactics: To be ridden more forward; settled handy. Nijinska Slow to begin. Missed The Alarm Slow to begin. Passing the 1100m was restrained from the heels of Nijinska which shifted in away from Ausie Abu which laid in. Vivre La Vie Slow to begin. Fortune Faded Slow to begin. All Too Good Raced wide throughout.

6 6 The Big Eater When questioned rider C Brown stated that his mount was agitated prior to the event and hung in and out during the event and raced greenly generally. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Jophiel Passing the 200m was restrained when crowded by The Big Eater which hung out. Swabs: Swab samples were obtained from all winners.
