1 STEWARDS REPORT Albury Racing Club ALBURY RACECOURSE Friday 23 March 2018 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: True STEWARDS: T.J.Davidson (Chairman), J.A.Shultz, C.G.Polglase & D.R.McLean (7u24b) Supplementary Stewards Reports Murrumbidgee Turf Club Sunday 4 March 2018 Race 5: Open Handicap 1000m An inquiry was concluded into the reasons why Wonderbolt broke down near the 400m in the abovementioned race with an injury to its off foreleg which necessitated it being euthanised. Evidence was taken from Co-trainer Mr P. Jones and the stables veterinary and treatment records for the gelding were examined. Stewards also considered a necropsy report carried out by Charles Sturt University which found a catastrophic rupture of the distal sesamoidean ligament and suspensory apparatus of the right forelimb. There was no evidence on post mortem of any nervous or musculoskeletal predisposing lesion or histological evidence of a preexisting condition in the affected ligaments. As Stewards were satisfied that there was no evidence of any pre-existing condition that caused or contributed to the breakdown, Stewards concluded the matter. Albury Racing Club Sunday 18 March 2018 Race 2: Maiden Handicap 1400m Stewards continued an inquiry into interference in the abovementioned event that was originally opened and adjourned immediately following the race to allow Apprentice C. MacFarlane to seek assistance from her master Mr M. Kent. Further evidence was taken today from both parties via tele-conference. Apprentice MacFarlane pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 250m she did permit Fila Freckle to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of Luga Lad which was crowded and checked. Apprentice MacFarlane s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 25 March 2018 and to expire on Tuesday 3 April 2018, on which day she may ride. General: As R. Prest(a) and R. Beattie were injured the following rider replacements were permitted. Both riders were advised they must provide a medical clearance before riding again. Race 1 Race 1 Race 2 N. Cartwright(a) on Gens Miss Licensed Jockey S McCullum was fined $200 under AR83(a) in that he did misconduct himself in the mounting yard prior to the running of race 3. Licensed Bookmaker D Jamieson pleaded guilty to a charge under BR13(2) for failing to accept a bet in accordance with this rule in that he refused to accept a wager from Mr M Molloy who attempted to place a bet of $100 each way on Waiting or A Mate in race 7. Mr Jamieson was fined $500. In respect to a complaint lodged by M Molloy in respect to the conduct of Mr Jamieson, the Stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite standard but nonetheless Mr Jamieson was reminded of his obligation to conduct himself in an appropriate manner at all times. RACE 1: Maiden Plate 1175m: Cincity- Raced wide throughout. Flight Commander- When questioned J Penza stated that his mount began well and travelled well outside the eventual winner however was dour in its effort to respond in the straight. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N Olive reported that the gelding would now be spelled. Fox Beat- Bumped on jumping. Miss Forbidden- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Vanderlune- Lay out under pressure in the early part of the straight. Outboard Motors- Hampered on jumping. Toffey Miss- Began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly and hampered Outboard Motors. Raced keenly and lay out throughout. Strikeman- Bumped on jumping. B Murphy (Toffey Miss) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 100m when not clear of Strikeman, contributing to that runner being checked. B Murphy s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday 24 th March 2018 and to expire on Sunday 1 st April 2018 on which day he may ride. App L King (Outboard Motors) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 100m when not clear of Strikeman, contributing to that runner being checked. App King s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 29 th March 2017 and to expire on 3 rd April 2018 on which day he may ride. RACE 2: Flat Knacker Open Handicap 900m:

3 Just a Bullet- Trainer B Cavanough was fined $50 for presenting the gelding without blinkers, part of its approved gear (AR140B). Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned R Bensley stated that after beginning awkwardly his mount failed to show any early pace, travelled only fairly to the 450m and failed to run on under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind (2/5). Trainer B Cavanough was advised a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. Fox Tales- Trainer N Olive reported to Stewards that following the event the gelding was found to have bled from both nostrils. Mr Olive was advised that the gelding would incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing under AR53A. Airino- N Beriman replaced J Duffy (dually engaged) as the rider of the mare. J Duffy was fined $100 under AR175(k) for negligently accepting two rides in the one event. Wednesday Warrior- Raced wide throughout. N Beriman (Airino) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 800m when not clear of Wednesday Warrior which lost its running and was steadied. N Beriman s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 29 th March 2018 and to expire on Saturday 7 th April 2018 on which day she may ride. Carried wide on the home turn when Fox Tales shifted out on the home turn. Wild Irish Boy- Slow to begin. RACE 3: Class 3 Handicap 1500m: Stewards considered an application from rider N. Souquet for a losing riding fee after claiming the he was booked to ride Lucky Fish in this event and then later replaced. After interviewing N. Souquet and Trainer B. Stanley, Stewards were able to establish that N. Souquet was submitted as the rider of the horse online with Racing Australia at 11.29am before being replaced as the rider via telephone call at 12.18pm. In considering that an offer to ride the horse had been made and accepted, Stewards acting under AR8(ll) ruled that, N. Souquet would be entitled to a losing ride fee and percentages as prescribed. Big Haz- Raced wide throughout. Vigorish- Hung in badly under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Lawton Joseph- Was badly held between the 500m and 300m. Between the 250m and 100m then had difficulty obtaining completely clear running. My Kind- Steadied and lost ground near the 300m when crowded by Lawton Joseph (J Duffy). J Duffy was reprimanded under AR137(a). Informertial- Trainer B Cavanough was fined $50 for failing to present the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding when requested (AR59A). Riverset- Co-trainer Ms E. Longmire was fined $200 under LR35 for the late declaration of J Ford as the rider of the mare. RACE 4: Benchmark 65 Handicap 2400m:

4 Doogans Rise- H. Grace(a) replaced L. King(a) (Dual engagement) as the rider of the gelding. Sommernachtstraum- The Stewards considered an objection lodged by Trainer R Kingston (trainer of fifth placed Sommernachtstraum) against second placed Tubbs Gift alleging interference over the final 50m. On the evidence the Stewards established that near the 30m Sommernachtstraum was checked when crowded by Tubbs Gift which shifted in, resulting in Sommernachtstraum striking the heels of Tubbs Gift and blundering badly. In dismissing the objection, the Stewards found that Tubbs Gift had come from behind Sommernachtstraum and bearing in mind the proximity of the interference to the winning post, the Stewards were not satisfied that had the interference not occurred that Sommernachtstraum would have finished in advance of Tubbs Gift. At a subsequent inquiry App L King (Tubbs Gift) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a)in that he permitted his mount to shift in over the concluding stages when not clear of Sommernachtstraum resulting in that runner being checked, striking the heels of Tubbs Gift and blundering badly resulting in App J Eaton becoming badly unbalanced and almost being dislodged. App King s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at the expiration of a suspension incurred in race 1 on Tuesday 3 rd April 2018 and to expire on Monday 16 th April 2018 on which day he may ride. Snake Cavern- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and hung out near the 2000m. Autocrat- The gelding was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.07pm when it sustained a laceration to the near hind enroute to the barriers. Subsequently it was directed that all monies invested on the gelding be refunded with all successful bets placed with bookmakers made prior to 3.07pm subject to the following deductions: 1 st Young Hostess 5c win, 5c place 2 nd Tubbs Gift 6c place 3 rd Doogans Rise 5c place Trainer R Freyer was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding racing again. RACE 5: Open Handicap 1175m: Cha Cha King- Slow to begin. Bring a Secret- A post-race veterinary examination revealed swelling to the near fore fetlock. Trainer N Olive was advised a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding racing again. O So Hazy- R. King(a) replaced B. Sweeney (overweight) as the rider of the mare. B. Sweeney was fined $200 under AR120(b). Cash Crisis- Restrained when disappointed for a run near the 300m and was shifted in to improve. Levee Bank- Slow to begin. Purrpussful- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Warragul- Rider D Yendall reported his mount dipped on a number of occasions in the middle stages when racing keenly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be

5 coughing and to be displaying nasal discharge. Trainer Ms S Thompson was advised a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination is required prior to the mare racing again. RACE 6: Albury Gold Cup Open Handicap 2000m: Wheal Leisure- Slow to begin. Brazen- Held up for clear running between the 500m and 300m. Reiby the Red- Trainer J. Attard was cautioned in respect to his conduct towards an official following the pre-race parade. Oh So Unfair- Slow to begin. Mr Fergus- Near the 300m was hampered and carried wider when Shaq shifted out after being carried out slightly by Brazen. Nothin Like Harry- Pulled hard in the early stages and near the 1600m shifted out and was then obliged to race wide thereafter. Bray- Got its head up when racing keenly in the early and middle stages. Willy White Socks- Crowded shortly after the start between Bray and Reiby the Red. RACE 7: Albury Guineas Benchmark 70 Handicap 1400m: Invincible Rock- When questioned J Duffy stated his mount travelled well early but was not comfortable in a softer section of track near the 900m. He added his mount then responded fairly in the straight however was a little one-paced in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Angel s Boy- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Uptown Lily- Rider N Callow reported his mount was not comfortable racing in the clockwise direction for the first time and was inclined to lay out. Burden of Proof- Slow to begin. Tyres Are Crucial- Raced wide throughout. Our Cashier- The gelding which was kicked by another runner in the enclosure underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Fat Impacta- The gelding which dislodged its rider enroute to the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. App C Frater-Hill was uninjured. RACE 8: Class 2 Handicap 1000m: Avapardi- Crowded shortly after the start. Southern Turf- N Souquet replaced N Callow as the rider of the gelding when N Callow was unavailable due to transport commitments. Began awkwardly.

6 Framework- When questioned J Duffy reported his mount travelled well up until the 300m where it then compounded quickly and weakened. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Gentleman Charlie- Blundered on jumping. When questioned App L King stated his intentions were to have his mount positioned just behind the speed as it had responded well when ridden in this fashion at its most recent start. He added however his mount after blundering at the start, never travelled at any stage and was disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Sweeney advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell. Our Edition- Began awkwardly. Diamonds for Alice- The mare was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 5.46pm after it became fractious and struck its head in the barriers. Subsequently it was directed that all monies invested on the mare be refunded with all successful bets placed with bookmakers subject to the following deductions: 1 st Another Sin 1c win, 1c place 2 nd Gens Miss 2c place 3 rd Southern Turf 3c place Trainer P Clancy was advised that a warning would be recorded against the mare. Shrapnel Impact- Trainer R Wellington was fined $100 (AR140B) for presenting the gelding with winkers (not part of gelding s approved gear) and without pacifiers which were part of that gelding s permitted gear. When no pacifiers could be located Stewards permitted the gelding to race without that gear. Public announcements were made to this effect. Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permissible strikes with the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) Race 1 App L King (Outboard Motors) 7 strikes prior to 100m Race 3 R Bensley (Infomertial) 6 strikes prior to 100m Race 6 P Scorse (Oh So Unfair) 8 strikes prior to 100m. Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
