Message From Your President David Heldt Our May test was earlier this year by two weeks but we feel that it turned out well. We had a great turn out. I would like to thank everyone who helped with it. Gavin Maxwell worked hard on getting us all our ducks and everyone else that helped Gavin with this. Thanks to Matt Brekke for pulling the equipment trailer to the test and Gavin for pulling it back to his place. Thanks to Curt Lacey for the food for set up day and for being an all around go to person. Thanks to all those that helped set up on Friday. Thanks to our Judges, marshals, bird techs, and everyone who helped throughout the weekend. Thanks to It s All About The Smoke who catered our social. Again thanks to everyone who helped out at the test. Congratulations to all that passed. There were a couple of titles earned over the weekend which is always exciting. Lots of PV members passed so congratulations to a good job on running your dogs. Going forward we have some training days coming up so be sure to check the calendar on the newsletter or website. We will also draw for the dove and duck hunts at East Ponds on opening day of season. And we award title pins for any titles earned in the last year. So if your dog has titled since our picnic last year, be sure to Lee Ann at laheldt@hotmail.com to let her know. It s always a fun time and good food. David Heldt President April 11, 2018 Board Meeting Wednesday April 11, 2018 Sportsman's Warehouse Thornton 6:30-7:25 p.m. Minutes Submitted by Secretary Kristi Goeringer, April 25, 2018 Officers Present: David Heldt, President; Mike Brockman, Vice-President; Lee Ann Heldt, Treasurer; Kristi Goeringer, Secretary Board Members Present: Dan Feighert, Curt Lacey, Ron Waltman Visitors Present: Steve Goeringer Prior Meeting Minutes for March 2018 minutes approved by Mike Brockman and all voted. We discussed the need to get minutes done faster, Kristi will work on getting them done within 2 weeks of meeting. 1. Treasurer's report submitted by Lee Ann Heldt. The club is well in the black at the time being. We had 94 entries for the upland test and netted around $ after selling leftover birds. We voted to hold to the premium letter and did not give refunds to scratches unless they had a veterinarian s note. 2. Dave Heldt purchased 4 new wingers and 2 sets of electronics. PVHRC now has a total of 6 new wingers and electronic launchers. Dave Heldt will keep the electronics at his house so they can be charged and keep them safer than in the club trailer. We discussed only using them for hunt tests and not for club training days. 3. Upland Test was a success. Mike Brockman suggested that next year we do not put on an Upland Test but that we go back to the every- other year plan that was originally planned and hope that one of the other clubs will hold the test next year. We all agreed to not host the Upland Test next year, with 8 No votes, and Mike Brockman will send out an for the Board Members not present tonight to get their votes in also. We will need to plan 11 months ahead to order the birds for the next test. If another club needs test grounds we would be able to let them use Mary's Place. Thanks to Curt Lacey for doing all the pheasants and for the lunch! 4. Spring Hunt Test - Mike Brockman will arrange to meet with the Boy Scout group in Longmont to show the bird technicians how to run the wingers before the hunt test. Mike Brockman had worked on setting up the wingers with medical tubing and testing them and he didn't think it worked any better than the black cordage we have on the wingers now. Dave and Lee Ann Heldt will be testing the Social Food "All About the Smoke" and getting the menu and prices nailed down. They will try to keep the cost of the meals down and will order enough food for 80 people. Curt Lacey will pick up the chicken for the Friday Set-up meals, and will also arrange for the King Soopers sandwiches and lunches for the hunt test judges, marshals, bird techs etc. We discussed only doing water for the lunches and suggested having candy bars in the ice/water coolers for the bird techs since they tend to get hungry. 5. Lee Ann is still working on setting up the pay pal and phone credit card reader. 6. Fall Hunt Test - we are still waiting on the approval of one judge. We have put down the deposit for Teal Lodge. We now have one extra winger so we might use the winger at this raffle or hold it for next year depending on how the raffle prizes look. We still need a raffle coordinator and people to help haul the trailer and birds. 7. Lee Ann asked what we should do for the donation that our Club does for the National Club. We discussed just doing a $ check or gift card, but they will talk with Willie Ratliff and see if that is OK or if we need to purchase something for the donation. In the past we have received handmade duck or goose calls or other items made and donated from club members,

3 P l a t t e V a l l e y H u n t i n g R e t r i e v e r C l u b N e w s l e t t e r P a ge 3 but we think the check will be better this year. 8. One PV of ANNUAL our long-standing MEETING club Member, Tom Osborne passed away. We discussed sending JANUARY 20, 2016 flowers to his wife and Lee Ann will handle this. We 6:30 agreed pm Gander on $ We also Mountain discussed sending out an to the other clubs to let them know Open of his passing since all PV he had been a judge and most people in the region were blessed Members to know him throughout & Friends the years Grant Street, Thornton, CO Meeting adjourned Latitude: 7: Longitude: May 16, 2018 Board Meeting (Continued from page 2) Wednesday May 16, 2018 Sportsman's Warehouse Thornton 6:30-7:25 p.m. Minutes Submitted by Secretary Kristi Goeringer, June 1, 2018 Officers Present: David Heldt, President; Mike Brockman, Vice-President; Lee Ann Heldt, Treasurer; Kristi Goeringer, Secretary Board Members Present: Dan Feighert, Curt Lacey, Jim May, Kevin Bernhardt, Ryan Armstrong Visitors Present: Prior Meeting Minutes for April 2018 minutes approved by s. 1. Treasurer's report submitted by Lee Ann Heldt. The club is well in the black at the time being. 2. Sally Osborne sent a nice thank you to our club and members for our donation and sympathy cards and notes for the loss of her husband Tom. 3. Spring Test re-cap. We had good net income from the Spring Test with the raffle doing well even with the smaller entries because of only running one Finished flight. Everyone seemed to enjoy the social food by It's All About Smoke. We did have problems with our Boy Scout Troop Not providing the bird techs they said they would, so we had to ask lots of club members to pitch in and help out. Thanks to all who volunteered or were conscripted to help out. We are planning on trying a 4H Group that Kevin Bernhardt's girls are a part of for the Fall test and hope that they do a better job of showing up! As always, we pay $50.00 for the day for the bird techs so if you know of any children that can commit to throwing bids at the hunt tests please let us know! We really want to encourage our youth to get involved in dog training, hunting, and the hunt tests and this is a great way to get them started! 4. Mike Brockman discussed the Fall Hunt test. He has volunteers for the Hunt Committee under way. We will plan to use the "Barn Brats" 4H Club for the bird techs. Ryan Armstrong will ask Hank Ford to be the Gun Captain and do the cleaning of the guns before the hunt test. Susan Levine will be the Bird Steward. Ryan Armstrong will be the Hunt Marshall. Curt has the winger and Lee Ann has the Training Collar for the social already. We still need someone to volunteer to handle the raffle. We will use the All About Smoke for the social food again. 5. Lee Ann has the credit card account set up through PayPal now and has the links on the PVHRC website so that people can join the club through PayPal now. She will contact the club's bank account to see about getting a phone reader to be able to take entries and social money at the hunt tests. The fees so far have been 2.9% and a 30 cents transaction fee. We discussed possibly raising our hunt test entries fees to compensate, but decided to wait and see how much we use the service and see what the actual costs are, and we can revisit the costs after the Fall Test. 6. We are working with Paul Bishop and the other local clubs to work out test date changes for the Spring Hunt Test in addition to Indian Meadows since we had to change our initial test dates this year which conflicted with the Grand. Meeting adjourned 7:30.

4 P l a t t e V a l l e y H u n t i n g R e t r i e v e r C l u b N e w s l e t t e r P a ge 4 THE PLATTE VALLEY TRAINING TABLE Next Monthly Board Meeting June, 13 6:30 pm Sportsman Warehouse Open to all PV Members & Friends 11 West 84th Ave, Thornton, CO [Near I-25 & 84th Ave] Table details: It is made of two separate tables (2'x8'x6"), each capable of standing alone but ready to be bolted end to end. The painted surface has an additive that gives the surface a non-slip texture. The legs can be folded up into the underside of the table for storage and transport. They are fairly heavy, but can be carried and erected by one person. For being portable, it is fairly stable. My dog Mojo jumps up onto it without me being around and he sleeps on it. Rich Carpenter donated all the retrieving aids and are very much like those discussed in the TriTronics "Trained Retrieve" training tapes. There are removable vertical pipes with aircraft cable stretched between for guiding the dog. We strongly suggest that the users of the table keep it out of the weather so it will last. It's available on a first come, first use basis. [HUGE thank you to Mike Brockman for building this and making it available to members]

5 In Memory Of Tom Osborne Platte Valley and the entire hunting retriever world lost a good friend this past month with the passing of Tom Osborne. When Tom came to the club as a newbie, he had much to learn. He epitomized what the club is all about. As he learned, he was quick to welcome and share his knowledge with those that followed. He went on to serve as a Board Member and Hunt Chairman for Platte Valley as well as serve President of Central Rockies HRC. His particular passion was for judging Started dogs and making sure that new handlers had fun and a good introduction to HRC. Tom loved his dogs Woody and Abby and was Tom & Woody proud of all that they accomplished. He took up waterfowl hunting in order to see his dogs do what they were bred to do. I know that he enjoyed many a sunrise from a duck blind with his dogs by his side. Rest in Peace tom and thank for all that you did to contribute to PVHRC. We ll miss your contagious enthusiasm.
