The first shoot we had several members who posted good scores for team Black Diamond. We have had several shooters posting scores in the 90 s at the first two shoots. Please show your support to all of our Black Diamond Gun Club team shooters. We are continually in need of people to volunteer for cooking on Wednesday nights. The more that volunteer the better, it will give some of those that have been cooking for a long time a much deserved break. Remember the gun club will reimburse you for the cost of the food and you will receive a punch card good for ten rounds of trap for your cooking time. It is a good time to remind ourselves to re-read the gun club rules. I know I see them all the time and until recently had not read them since I first started coming to the gun club. The safety rules are posted in several locations. How often do we see the signs and never pay attention to them? Remember the rules are for the safety of everyone using the gun club. Also remember this is gun club is member owned. It is up to all of us to help keep it clean and keep it from being torn up and misused. The cleaner we keep our gun club, the more appealing it is to prospective members. Be polite to all guests as they are potential members, too. It is that time of year to apply for Grants again. We would like to have a Wish list for items that we can apply for a grant for. Please feel free to help us with this list. I have created a log for our work parties. Please be sure to sign your name and the amount of time you work at the work parties.

3 Black Diamond Gun Club RSO minutes Attendees Sam Vanassa Tom Fix Bautista Barb Sher Marvin Fitts Bud Cross Neal McLemore Mark Downing Roy Jeff Detwiler John Griffin Richard James Bob Sadesk John Mulhall Brian Pennington Meeting chaired by Mr. John Mulhall, 6PM start time. Pledge of Allegiance RSO monthly calendar circulated for RSO sign up. RSO meeting sign in sheet circulated. Mr. Mulhall initiated discussion regarding spent.223 brass being found on the pistol range. Steel backing plates show damage from high velocity, unauthorized ammunition being fired on the pistol range. Also,.44 Mag shell casings are being found on the pistol range. These two cartridges are prohibited on the pistol range along with the list of high powered pistols designated by signage on the pistol range. Mr. Mulhall briefed the RSO s present regarding use of an action pistol setup for competition and observing the shooters for proper shot placement. Height of shooter does affect shot placement vertically and needs to be adjusted by the RSO or the coordinator running the event. Mr. Mulhall questioned those present regarding any upcoming competition, CMP or otherwise. No comments from the RSO present and the CMP liaison was not available for input. Mr. Mulhall also commented on proper shot placement in regards to qualifying for the 200 yard rifle range. The benchmark is approximately 3 ½ inch pattern at the 100 yard range for shooters with open sights. A two inch pattern properly placed for bullet drop for the selected zero is expected of scoped rifles. Mr. Mark Downing initiated discussion regarding availability of RSO s and range hours for potential range rental by private party. Discussion revolved around making available those Wednesdays or other days usually reserved for law enforcement agencies. Additionally, rental on Friday s was discussed and how closing the range would effect or Club members and their access to the pistol / rifle ranges. Discussion took place regarding coordinating range rental by other entities or RSO application to rent the range for training. In regards to trap shooting, Mr. Downing advised that the shotgun range would be available starting March 5 th for 3 hours each Tuesday from noon to 3 PM. Once again, target frame placement, and, target placement on the mounting frame is paramount to preventing damage to the overhead baffles on the pistol range. Emphasis on RSO oversight to prevent damage to the range. Mr. Bob Sadesk commented on the migration of rifle range targets to the pistol range. These targets are greater in height than the pistol range targets and need to be used on the rifle range ONLY. 3 4 Questions were submitted regarding public access on member only days for pistol / rifle ranges. Twice each month, on Sundays, the gate is open and the general public has accessed the range to shoot on the pistol and rifle range. Current BDGC bylaws require a public shooter to be accompanied by a BDGC member. Additionally, those escorted by a BDGC member must pay the appropriate fee determined by age of the shooter. The question was posed about allowing the general public to shoot

4 WITHOUT a BDGC member escorting them. This scenario will be forwarded to the BDGC Board for their review and possible approval. At the present time NO public are allowed to shoot on member only days without a BDGC member escort. Subject to BDGC Board approval and RSO discretion to allow maximum usage of the rifle / pistol by BDGC members, public may be approved to use the rifle / pistol range in the future. The BDGC Board will advise acceptance or denial of this motion. Mr. Mulhall initiated a technical discussion regarding bullet set back in regards to chamber insertion and relationships to the lands in the barrel. Upon completion of the technical discussion, Mr. Mulhall advised he had tendered his resignation from the Chief RSO position at the BDGC due to personal conflicts. He advised that Mr. Bob Sadesk has assumed the Chief RSO position at the BDGC club. Mr. Sadesk graciously accepted the new position and applauded the time, effort and expertise that Mr. Mulhall has shared with the BDGC and the RSO staff. Meeting adjourned at 6:41PM. Submitted January 15 th, Brian H. Pennington 5 Range Closures The following dates are for range closures due to the rental of the range. No members should be out on the range during these scheduled times unless approved by the board of trustees. The following dates have been scheduled: February 7, 13, 14, 15 8am to 4pm each day *Note: Entire club is closed during police events Please check your newsletter and/or online carefully for range closures Closures are listed on the monthly calendar and in the section titled Range Closures. It is best to check in both places for closures. Sometimes the phrase Range Closed is omitted on the calendar due to the limited space in the individual calendar date blocks. The club is always closed during Law Enforcement agency use. The club is always closed during the Women s Pistol classes. Note that the rifle/pistol ranges are closed for shooting during the Continental League and PITA shoots whether it is listed on the calendar or not. This is a courtesy to shooters paying entry fees and shooting for trophies. Please check the Range Closure section for all scheduled range closures. If you mistakenly remove the Range Closed sign at the gate, please replace immediately. 6

Wads Downrange and Claybuster Continental Report Pat Manyon I want to thank all of you that helped with the Continental shoot on January 20 th. It was a very successful day. The fog made for a very challenging shoot. We had 25 squads for a total of 125 shooters making for a very full day. If it was not for all the support of our members these events would be impossible to hold. The high score for the day was two 99 s. The high shooter for Black Diamond was Marion Dukes with a 96. Completing the top 5 were Charles Stacy 92, Mark Downing 91, Mark Bergstresser 89, and Dave White 89. Our next shoot is a PITA shoot on June 1 st and 2 nd. Please keep these dates open. Marion Dukes is the shoot director so please let him know as soon as possible if you can help. We will again need to provide breakfast and lunch, so if you would like to cook let him know. We had a total of 26 volunteers whose work totaled 193 hours resulting in a successful shoot. Again, I want to thank all of you. Pat 7 8

6 When reading the calendar, if there is a NAME on the calendar, it means that there is an RSO for that time. Public shooting is Wednesday s and Saturday s. All other times are MEMBER s ONLY 9 10

7 Black Diamond Gun Club General Membership Meeting Minutes January 15, 2012 Officers/Trustees/Members present: Jim Bradbury, Cork Carpenter, Pat Manyon, Bob Ballard, John Griffin, Marion Dukes, Marilyn Manyon, Bob Sadesk, Jim Forczek, Andy Newell, Bud Cross, Brian Pennington, Larry Gardner, Merv Vincent, John Mulhall, Jeff Detwiler, Barb Shera. Secretary s Report: It was moved by Mark Downing and seconded by Andy Newell that the December 18, 2012 General Membership meeting minutes be approved as corrected. Motion Carried. Marilyn also distributed an Action Item list (see attached) and asked the board members to review it and apprise her of updates or corrections. Treasurer s Report: BDGC is solvent as of January 12, Financial reports are provided at the board meeting each month. Treasurer s report was read by Secretary, Marilyn Manyon (See attached). John Griffin made a motion to approve the treasurer s report, seconded by Cork Carpenter, Motion Carried. Committee/Member Reports: Merv Vincent: Grants - Merv Vincent updated the board on prospective grant opportunities. There are four agencies; American Trapshooting Association, National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), NRA, Friends of the NRA. Each group requires grant requests on different time frames and to cover different expenses. He is asking the board to create a prioritized 11 wish list to see if there is a match a grant that the committee could apply for. He is monitoring the grant websites to be aware if more money becomes available. Barb Sher: Hunter s Ed - Barb has proposed evening Hunter s Ed classes on dates of April 9, 11, 14, May 14, 16, 19, June 3, 6, 9 to schedule on the calendar. Bud Cross had the calendar at the meeting and asked Barb to request the dates and hours of the class in writing so he can compare with the calendar. Motion was made by John Griffin to approve Hunter s Ed dates upon Buds confirmation, motion seconded by Pat Manyon. Motion passed. John Mulhall: CRSO - John Mulhall thanked the board for the opportunity to hold the Chief RSO position. It was an honor to serve in that position but now medical concerns need his attention. The records and keys have been passed on to the new CRSO - Bob Sadesk. The board showed their appreciation of John s efforts as CRSO and thanked him for his service. Andy Newell: Computers & Networking Issues - Andy has been busy working on the computer and point of sale systems and still have issues to update. He added Bob Ballard has updated the inventory and Andy has updated that information in the point of sale system but we have not begun using it as training will be required. Continental Punch Card In an effort to print new Continental punch cards at a better, Andy has ordered an embossing tool. This will enable us to print the punch cards on cardstock and emboss it with the BDGC embossing tool. The cards will not be able to be duplicated. New cards will be available soon. A Continental practice card can be purchased 12

8 for $60.00 by the Black Diamond shooters that shoot for the Black Diamond team in the Continental league. Bob Ballard: Components - Bob has completed the component inventory. The price of ammunition has become high and the availability difficult. Bob has pulled ammo for the Women s Pistol Class (3 cases of 9mm, 1 case of 38, 4 bricks of 22 s) to ensure the ammo would be available for the scheduled classes. Cody and Pat did check to see if corporate pricing was available on 9 mm s and 223 s at Cabella s on the way to Evergreen for the Continental shoot and were told we would have to get in touch with corporate. Bud Cross: Calendar - Bud reports that he considers three different areas before adding an event to the calendar. They are; What is happening in the RSO area, Input from Larry Gardner regarding LE scheduling, And the board for events under consideration for scheduling. Jim Forczek: 503 C3 - There is a correction to action Item for 501 C3 paperwork. Jim has found the person that offered to look into working on the paperwork for us. He thinks she is starting on it this month. Camera system - Jim wants to check on what the thoughts are on the trial of the camera he brought in and set up for the trap fields. He has a request to get the tryout system returned. Jim received input that one objective was to be able to read license plates on vehicles as they approach and leave the clubhouse. He said we could upgrade to higher resolution cameras to cover that objective. We are currently using only 3 cameras in the set up as it stands now and the package comes with 8 cameras. Thought would have to be given on how to mount 13 and install the cameras and how to get a power source to the location. Jim will take some pictures on ways to mount the cameras for consideration. Pat Manyon: Continental Shoot This Sunday, January 20 th is the day for the shoot. Saturday we will be getting set up with a 2:00 work party. We will have at least 25 boxes of birds in each trap house. Enough people have signed up to load trap houses, score, take care of speakers and cook the meals. Registration is taken care of by the Continental committee so no Black Diamond people are needed. A question was raised re: shooters that have purchased the discount Continental practice card are they really shooting on the Black Diamond team. We determined that on Sunday we will note that the shooters who have purchased the discount card and make sure they are actually shooting on the BDGC team. If not they will not be able to purchase practice rounds with the card any longer. Mark Downing: Lease of range for personal business A new member has submitted a proposal to the board to consider using the BDGC range for his shooting instruction business. He has proposed dates after checking with the online BDGC calendar and is checking to see the dates that are still available. The Range Safety Officers are not in favor of closing the range on any Friday dates that were requested. The board has concerns with taking the availability of the range from all other members. Considering we have not leased the range out for personal gain in the past, and tried to keeps impacting our members time at the range at a minimum, the board has decided not to expand in this direction. Currently, the only time that part of the club is shutdown is during the Women s Pistol class when it is felt necessary to close because of the intimidation factor to novice gun students. That class is a revenue source for BDGC not just for one member. John Griffin moves to inform the club member that we cannot meet his needs at this time. Motion seconded by Bob Ballard. Motion passed. A letter will be drafted, 14

9 reviewed and signed by Cork Carpenter, Chairman of the Board and mailed to the member. John Griffin: Proposed Hunters Ed classes He wanted to note that the Hunters Ed classes brought up by Barb earlier in the meeting were approved. Bob Sadesk: Bob asks if there are any more staples available at the club, if not he needs to buy more. Mark asked that he buy T-50 s at Johnsons to keep them the same as others used. You have the authority to spend $100 before requiring prior board approval. Bob said he would take care of it and submit the receipt to Laura. Motion was made by Cork Carpenter to adjourn, seconded by Andy Newell. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:37 p.m. Next general meeting is scheduled for February 19 th at 7:30.
