Actually as I think about it as I get older I wish I were a month behind all my life. Perhaps that it wouldn t matter which I guess is a humbling form of self-deprecation. Nonetheless, I am proud to report that our fund drive during the month of October for Paralyzed Veterans was very successful. I sent them check in the amount of $1, In addition, I penned them the following letter. On behalf of the WCW dba Kenmore Gun Range I find it an honor to present to your organization the enclosed contribution. We designated the month of October as Paralyzed Veterans month at our range. There were many contributors and it is our hope to continue this collection every year in the foreseeable future. Shooting enthusiasts understand the sacrifice all our Veterans make to preserve the cause of freedom. This is especially the case when it comes to those who given up their life and limb in the process. People who are paralyzed have to live with the constant reminder that is often overlooked and sometimes even unappreciated in our busy often self-serving culture. Be assured there are a lot of people who recognize and revere the sacrifice. We now have three solid outreach charities that we have established throughout the year. In June we collect toiletries and essentials for Women who are victims of Domestic Violence. That runs the month of June culminating at the club picnic which is toward the end of the month. The second is our Paralyzed Veterans drive. The third and the oldest and perhaps the most established is Toys for Tots. This is spearheaded by two popular members Mr. and Mrs. Schneider and is run through the month of December until just before Christmas. Please mark your calendar to try and make an effort to contribute this year. Someone asked me not to long ago why I felt these charitable causes are important. My response is that it is dangerous to give the impression that shooting enthusiasts are not concerned about the community at large. I could rail on but don t wish to turn these things into a political quarreling. So let me go back to the opening postulation of this month s message. By the next time you read another missive from me the entire Holiday period will have past. This autumn was pretty good especially the variation of colors that abound our piece of property. I recall a childhood teaching moment concerning the primary colors. It is called ROYBIV. It stands for red, orange, yellow, and blue, indigo, violet. Mother Nature surely encompasses this color spectrum in a way that no pallet of paint can duplicate. I hope you enjoyed it. I sometimes look around our property and marvel at the splendor of this greenbelt. The coming year will be an exciting challenge. The board has approved me to contact a range designer by the name of Scott Kranz who was recommended to me by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. He is going to engineer a design for both range three remodel as well as range four. As these plans progress we will certainly keep everyone informed. With that said, I would be remiss if I didn t give everyone a critter report. It looks like the turtles eggs were infertile so the efforts of Andrew to help with the incubation was well intentioned but not successful. Thanks Andrew for the effort. I have nothing new to report on new critters that have been sighted. I did consider making up some story about a Moose being sighted down at the pond. But then I thought better of it. My fellow board members might move for impeachment base on such delusional thinking. Or at least ask me to take a urinalysis test for substance use. On the other hand, I have this theory that there is a fat old guy in a red suit who stages his sleigh and brood of reindeer on the FITA field on or about December 24 th. It s just a rumor. I want to wish everyone all the best this Holiday season. Joe Rinaldi SAFETY IS JOB ONE!

Pistol Marksmanship and Competition Seminar The 1st Saturday of each month we have a pistol training session for Bullseye and International Standard Pistol. Learn what competition is all about and get a lot of practice on timed and rapid fire targets. Need to bring, at a minimum: A..22LR semi-automatic standard pistol (5 barrel). B rounds of..22lr C. $15 fee Rifle Committee We had a work party on Range #1 on 12 November, finally got the target frames fixed at 300 yards. We also repaired the target frame storage racks at 200 and 300 yards. Thanks to Matt Daly, George Smith, and Lou Scharbau for their work in the mud. We have more matches scheduled, come out and see what competition is like. The first Saturday of the month is our new Rimfire Benchrest match, the second Saturday is the Benchrest match, and on the third Sunday in December, our next NRA Highpower match. Check the club calendar for details, or show up and see how they work. Our Special Use qualification session in December is on Saturday, 16 December, from noon to 4 PM. We will be on Range #1, bring the rifle you plan to use. The December Rifle Range Committee meeting will be at 7 PM on Wednesday, 20 December, in the Chalet. Hope to see you there. Martin Morehouse Starts at 9:00AM on Range #3 Pistol hours of operation Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri Sat Sun CMP Rifle Match November 20, 2017 Chalk it up to warm arm chairs, high definition displays and the NFL season I suppose our participation was light for this shoot though the faithful soldiered on. One of our regulars missed the date as he became stranded from an aircraft maintenance issue in Detroit. Who would want to fly in a broken airplane anyway? All our competitors in this match, which was a CMP game were smoking hot in that they fired beyond the 400 mark for scores out of a maximum of 500 points. Are these hot shots scaring away the competition? Congratulations to Jo Schneider the match winner. Jo used an AR platform equipped with a legal optic fired a blazing hot X earing a Modern Military Gold Pin. James Illson using a M1A with iron sights, no coat, no glove, saved a round from a rapid fire string, still shot a 463-6X earning his second Gold Modern Military Pin. Milt Schneider was true to the game spirit in using a vintage Swedish Mauser. Oh so close Milt was just 8 points shy of earing a bronze pin. Still, Milt fired a very competitive 421-4X. One more match for 2017 December 17 th this match will be a CMP Game as well. Hope to see you there.

4 Page 4 the Sportsman Newsletter Rimfire Benchrest Rifle Match Rimfire Match Report for Nov 2017 This competition is two relays shooting at the International Benchrest Shooters 50 Yard rimfire target with standalone results and payouts for each relay. Each of these targets contain inch diameter targets with one shot per target with outer ring scoring. Below is a picture of the target. There is a link at the Kenmore Range Calendar Rimfire Match notice that provides detailed match information. The scoring system is based on where the bullet touches the outer edge of the ring. One bonus point is awarded for each center hit which entirely eliminates the dead center of the bull. For example a score of 240 3X means the competitor had a net score of 237 plus three points for the three dead center hits. Shooters may use either a bipod or bags to rest their rifles on only. Attached are pictures of the different setups the competitors were using at the November 4 match. There were six competitors at the match held on a cold Saturday morning. All shooters competed in one rifle classification. At the match in December, we will be discussing separating the competitors into two divisions, rifles designed for match competitions (typically costing $700 or more) and rifles designed like those produced by Ruger, Savage, and CZ. This is the format used in the Bench Rest Competition which features separate rifles into categories of custom and factory. If you can not attend and would like just like to provide your thoughts on this proposal via , please send them to my address below. December 2017 Relay 1 was won by David Wild who scored 246 out of a possible 250 which included 8X. In second place was Kevin Kellogg who scored 237 including 3X. Dennis Tyskiewicz placed third with a score of 236 also with 3X. Relay 2 was won by Kevin Kellogg a score of 246 which included 4x. In second place was David Wild with a score of 241 points with 5x and in third place was Dennis Tyskiewicz with a score of 234 and 4x. The small field completed the match in an hour and a half. Come early and mingle with the other shooters, some who you know and some who may become new acquaintance s who share your interest in.22 caliber rifles. I have been shooting in the bench rest match for a year and found that the competition is a great way to meet people, pickup shooting tips, and information on an equipment as well as ammunition used which is very helpful for rimfire rifles. Hope to see you at the December match. You are welcome to come and observe the match and ask any questions you may have about the competition. Matt Daly mattd5404@frontier.com

5 December 2017 the Sportsman Newsletter Page 5 Archery Committee The days are shorter, wetter, and cooler so most of our fair weather archers are moving indoors or hanging up the Bow until drier, warmer and longer days return. Not so with our die hard Bowhunters. As I am writing this the day before the Thanksgiving Day Celebration, which I am eagerly looking forward too, I have several friends who are in the process of braking out the cold weather gear and heading for the woods for one last chance at bagging an Elk of Deer. There are still many hunting units on both sides of the mountains that are open for a few more weeks of great Elk and Deer possibilities. For me those days of waking up in the back of a pickup with icicles hanging from the roof of the canopy and a Coleman chest with only a dozen of raw eggs frozen solid are over. Give me a glass of wine, or even better a bottle of Bud, with several slices of Cheese, Grey Poupon, a recliner with remote, watching the outdoor channel s hunting shows, is much more my style these days. The mind may say, go ahead you can do it, but the body says act your age. Even so things are still happening around the range. Recently Archery Chairman Jim Thompson traveled to South Bend Washington and purchased 28 new Pacific Bow Butts for the new walk thru range, which Jim and his Crew have been working hard to complete. By late Spring Jim hopes to have all the remaining Target frames built and installed and ready for summer use. Keep close watch on the white board on the flat range for dates and times for member work party help. I encourage all archers to consider joining one or both of our State Archery Organization(s. They are (WSB) Washington State Bowhunters and (WSAA) Washington State Archery Association. Both of these organizations are called upon by our State Fish and Game Department when equipment rule changes or season setting unit changes are considered. The membership strength of these organizations gives us a more commanding voice in convincing State Game Commission Representatives that we the people deserve to have a say in protecting our sport into the future. Please join one or both of these organizations. For those archers who do not venture into the woods this time of the year there are still opportunities to keep active and shooting. Every year during the months of Dec and Jan WSAA has what is called the Mail in Check the Webb Site of WSAA for application and cost but basically you will shoot for score at an indoor range where a WSAA member will score your target and send them In too the Tournament Director. The beauty of the mail in is you are competing with archers all over the State while shooting in your own back yard. At the end of Jan the scores are compiled and trophies are awarded to the top shooters. Gives you a chance to see who you will need to challenge during the summer State sponsored events. Give it a try. Speaking of shooting indoors WCW S indoor program is now scheduled in our clubhouse on weekends Sat and Sun from 5Pm to 9PM and Monday and Wednesdays from 7PM to 9PM The cost is members $3.00 Students $1.00 and the public $5.00. As we prepare to celebrate this special festive time of the year for family and friends I would like to wish all of our members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Ken DeLeone Shotgun hours of operation Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri Sat Sun 5:00 to 9:00 pm Noon to 5:00 pm 5:00 to 9:00 pm 10:00 am to 5:00 pm 10:00 am to 5:00 pm 1st Mon Members Only 5-9pm 3th Mon Members Only 5-9pm Pistol League Bullseye Pistol Time to sign-up for the Winter.22 Indoor Bullseye League and IERPA Postal Team League. We will be shooting the.22lr verson of the standard Bellseye pistol event. This is shot indoors at 50 feet on reduced targets (in the Clubhouse). The course of fire is 30 rounds slow fire (10 rounds in 10 minutes, 30 rounds time fire (5 rounds in 20 seconds), and 30 rounds rapid fire (5 rounds in 10 seconds). The results for every 90 round match are collected for the club league results. For the Postal we put stickers on the back of 3 targets every week (1 slow, 1 timed and 1 rapid) and report the results. Our top 4 shooters become Team 1 and their results are totaled, a perfect score being 360 every week for 10 weeks. The next highest 4 shooters are our Team 2 and so forth. This is the 74th year for this Pistol event which was organized in Spokane and has about 100 teams from all over the country competing every year. We have competed in this event for the last 18 years and usually finish 1st or 2nd overall (Class A). We usually have 4 teams, some competing in the lower classes. Come on out and help us.. even one good score out of the 10 helps out our team. Vic Alvarez Toys for Tots

6 Page 6 the Sportsman Newsletter December 2017 Opportunity is knocking! Here s your chance to put a big smile on a child s face and have fun doing so! This year, as in past years, our club is a collection point for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program to provide toys for kids on Christmas. The overall objectives of the Toys for Tots program is to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation s most valuable resources our children. Many of these kids won t be getting much, if any, gifts unless we help. This is a great opportunity for us young at heart adults to see what the toy store has to offer, especially if the children in your life are past the toy age! So check out your local shop, then drop your unwrapped new toy in one of the collection boxes at Pistol, Shotgun, the Clubhouse or Office and feel good about spreading seasonal cheer and putting a smile on a child s face. Please note that the collection will end on December 15th to allow the volunteers enough time to wrap and distribute your donations. Please get them to us a little early. Thank you for helping us spread some special holiday magic! The Schneiders Donations We receive many donations during the course of a year..and we are very grateful. While we are not a charity and donations are not charitable contributions for tax purposes, all donations are put to work improving the facility and its operations. This month we received: $200 Donations Kevin Hafer $120 Donations Jim Young $95 Donations John Otter $50 Donations Manfred Breuers Barry Gackle Michael Goza James Schwarz $25 Donations Jim Rimar $20 Donations Kenneth Boilsen Kenneth Borch Matthew Daly George Falkenhagen Amy Martin Jeffrey Patton Jan Weber $10 Donations Pete Martin Tom McClelland Louis Orth Thanks Orientation The following new member applicants attended Orientation this month and received their membership cards.
