I am surely not complaining as there have been plenty of winter days when I longingly crave a little sweat bead from the warmth. As I mentioned last month we have been officially sanctioned as a Wildlife Sanctuary. The sign will soon appear at the front gate announcing this to the greater society at large. It is interesting to note that that the wildlife that live on our property are in full bloom of the breeding cycle. Just recently, there have been three coyote pups that appear frolicking at the far end of the trap range. They seem to favor this spot to jump and romp and chase each other about. The other day the Robert the range master at shot gun had to call a cease fire and go out to chase them off the field of fire. I have seen them no less than three times and marvel at how much they remind me of puppies of any canine breed. I also would like to remind everyone that this is probably the safest place for any wild animal to live in Snohomish County. Besides the coyotes we also have a healthy covey of Quail and many rabbits both of which are highly coveted by the coyotes. There is a pair of nesting red tailed hawks that often are seen flying overhead. Last year we had a bob cat and I ve been told a few deer have been seen from time to time. Shooters all these animals are protected so please do not be tempted to put one in the cross hairs. If you re caught there will be ugly consequences. Be reminded we have many cameras recording activities on video. Which brings up a rather amusing story. One of the things that I consider my primary duties is to field complaints or concerns from members the public and the surrounding community at large. I rarely let any time go by before I respond as I feel it is important to listen to everyone even if the matter is not conceivably solvable. One such instance started with an complaint about what we were going to do about the coyote s that were using neighborhood cats and dogs as a food source. I called the department of game and was told that the coyotes are protected. Actually, I was a bit surprised about that but was informed that the only way they could be culled was if they presented a threat to humans. Furthermore, I was told there was only one instance of this type of thing. It apparently had to do with an elderly woman who was feeding the coyote s in her neighborhood. After she died the animals kept coming to the vicinity looking for food. Someone was bitten by one of these entitled animals. So the lesson here is don t feed the Animals. In any event, I informed the neighbor and she was wondering if there was a possibility of putting up an electric fencing much like cattle ranchers use to contain bovine. I was informed after inquiring that this would not fly as a reasonable alternative either. After informing this person of this I received another inquiry. Then came this suggestion, Well why not invisible fencing? After I cleared my head from incredulousness I asked who was going to catch the coyote s and collar the animals. I haven t received any more inquiry concerning this matter. I do have a couple of housekeeping matters to announce. Please note that July 14 th and 15 th the range will be closed for the annual Three D archery shoot. Our staff specifically Jimmie Thompson who is also now a board member is busy putting the course of animal archery targets in tip top shape. It is our hope that this year we will exceed the excellent turnouts we had in the past. I also want to thank everyone who has contributed our annual drive to support Women who are SAFETY IS JOB ONE!

2 Page 2 the Sportsman Newsletter July 2018 victims of Domestic Violence. This year we are joined by the Snohomish County prosecutor s office. Elliot Thomsen one of our members has been integral in promoting this partnership. The club picnic on June 16th was a success and thanks to all especially Dan Barton for all you do to make this happen. Lastly, I d like to inform that we have had a change on the board of directors. Marc Champagne and his wife Majsan have resigned. We thank them for all their efforts to keep this club a place we can all be proud to be a member. This club is unique and very special because of a lot of people who have invested time effort and love for what the club stands for over the years. Rimfire Benchrest Rifle Match Rimfire Match Report for June 2018 This competition is two strings shooting at the International Benchrest Shooters 50 Yard rimfire target with standalone results and payouts for each string so if you don t shoot well in the first string there is a second chance to finish in the money. Each target contains inch diameter targets plus four sighter targets. The scoring system is based on where the bullet touches the outer edge of the ring with one shot per target. Each of the rings is only 1/8 th wide beyond the ½ inch center bullseye so even a fractional miss can adversely affect the shooters score. One bonus point is awarded for each center hit which entirely eliminates the dead center of the target. For example, a score of 240 3X means the competitor had a score of 237 plus three points awarded for the three dead center hits. A picture of the target is attached to the calendar notice. Shooters may use either a bipod or bags to support their rifle stocks and rear bags are also allowed. The competitors are separated into two divisions, Match for rifles designed for match competitions (typically costing $700 or more) and Sport for rifles de- signed for target and sport shooting like those manufactured by Ruger, Savage, and CZ. In this month s match there were nine competitors in the Match Division and five in the Sport Division. In String 1 Match Division, Kevin Kellogg was the winner a score of 246 8X. Ron Rhoten finished second with a score of 238 3X with Dennis Tyskiewicz placing third also with a score of 238 1X. Right behind the money positions were Tom Horne at 235 2X and Luka Tresperinas 234 2X. In the Sport Division, Keith Wilson won with a score of 227 3X. Brian Lapinski was second with a score of 219 1X and Canaan Boggs placed third with a score of 215 2X. In String 2 Match Division eight of the nine competitors improved their scores. Kevin Kellogg won with a season high score of x. Kevin is the first competitor to break 250 and also set a record for center hits. Ernie Snyder finished second with a score of 246 8X with Matt Daly finally finishing in the money with a third place score of 244 6X. Finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth were Dennis Tyskiewicz at 242 2X, Luka Tresperinas 241 6X, and Tom Horne at 241 5X. In the Sport Division, Brian Lapinski finished first with a score of 232 5X. Mark Helsen finished second with scores of 223 4X and with Keith Wilson in third with a score of 220 3X respectively. The next match is July 7th. The entry fee is $10 with two dollars per shooter for target expenses and the balance distributed in prize money for the first three places plus ties. For complete match details see the July 7th calendar event. The scores for all matches since November are posted under the Events tab. At the end of the year, the champions in each rifle division will be determined by the best 16 scores. Contact me if you have any questions about this match. Kevin Finke was the easy top finisher, shooting a 92.00% ten shot average over the 8 matches. Second was Andrei Grigorev with a 89.82% average or 52 points short of Kevin. Brian McCrea came in third at 88.67% with Michael Connolly and Paul Ketchum close behind. We had two shooters move up in class with Michael Connolly moving up to A Class and Jo Schneider advancing to B Class. Congratulations everyone for the good showing this year. Hope to have more participants new year. Pistol League We will be going outside in the good weather to shoot a couple of leagues. We will start with.22 International Standard Pistol on the Thursday evenings in July and August. Then we will change over to conventional.22 Bullseye for September and October.These two league will be shot on Range #3 starting at 7PM every Thursday. All Board members were present except Jeff LeMoine and Gary Webster. Guests: Ken DeLeone, Archery Committee Chairman; Martin Morehouse, Rifle Committee Chairman; Dave Elliott, Shotgun Committee Co-Chairman; Mark Silver, Facility Operations Manager; Robert Haverstock, Range Supervisor; Matt Daly; Kevin Kellogg; George Smith Matt Daly, member: - Would like the Club to order a perpetual trophy for the end of the Rimfire Match events. The Board approved this expense. - Would like to have an electronic bulletin board on the website for the Members for Member advertisement. Kevin Kellogg, member: - Discussed the Rifle Range s need for wind flags. Will be discussed further in the Rifle Committee Report. George Smith, member: - Attended the Advanced Maintenance class in Alabama in February and learned about electronic targets for air rifle and smallbore rifle. - Presented his calendar for the 2019 schedule for the Highpower Rifle Matches. There are only 2 conflicts that will be worked around. - The CMP has reached out to various locations to hold CMP Classes at affiliated Clubs. WCW/Kenmore Shooting Range is on the list to host one of these events in the future. Committee Reports: Ken DeLeone, Archery Committee: - Brett Grant is working to improve the JOAD program, and will work directly with Mike W. to coordinate any changes/ improvements. - There have been 2 archery shoots: May - 28 attendees (including 18 Members), June - 26 attendees (including 18 Members) - Jim T. and volunteers are cleaning up the Flat Range. - Made an arrangement with Lancaster Archery set up an account to help benefit the Club. - Ken D. and Mike W. are talking to a landscape architect about the FITA Range and will discuss drainage and finishing an incomplete project. - There are JOAD parents, who are not Club Members, who have been using the FITA Range unsupervised. This issue will be discussed with Mike W. and addressed appropriately. Martin Morehouse, Rifle Committee: - The latest Rifle Special Use classes are complete, with 16 members attending. 203 members have taken this class so far this year. Our next class is set for July 29 th. - The 50-yard Rimfire match on May 5 th had 15 entrants, and 14 entrants on June 2 nd, the Highpower Match had 4 entries, Benchrest with 14 entries, and the Cast Bullet match had 8. - The board verbally accepted the proposed range rules update last month, but it was not mentioned in the minutes. Could the board vote on it and have the results recorded, so we can make the updates we need? - Martin M. plans to post the range safety video that we trialed last year to the website. - The Benchrest Match coordinators would like to setup their match before 9:01 without using the range bell and light, since that is before shooting hours. We will propose to add the line to their match announcement and calendar entry, Setup is from 7:30 to 9:00, no rifles on the range during that time. " for Maintenance" sign will be in place. Mark S. will get an appropriate sign and safety equipment to facilitate this set-up time. - The cast bullet matches use target frames backed with Coroplast, a corrugated plastic material used in political yard signs. The existing Coroplast is worn out and needs to be replaced. Roger Ulrich, Cast Bullet Match Chairman, estimates they need 7 4 x 8 sheets. Home Depot carries this, and the cost should be around $ Can the club buy the sheets, and the cast bullet group does the replacement work? The Board approved this expense. - The Rimfire matches on Range #1 can use wind flags, but not all shooters have them. Kevin Kellogg, the Rimfire Benchrest Chairman, requests that the club purchase 12 wind flags for use during matches and training sessions. The flags they are looking for are between $40 and $50 each, supported by tripods at $34 each and shipping of $45 for the whole order. Plus tax this is about $1000. The flags and tripods could be stored in the target shed for use during matches. Rick Graham can offer them at these discounted rates. Kevin intends to use them to help teach all the competitors their use, and improve their overall skill, without adding to the equipment list for each competitor. - The Board approved this expense. - We propose adding signs to Range #1, illustrating what type of shooting is allowed for each set of targets and each position on the range. This will make things clearer than having to interpret the rules. - We also propose replacing the Cooper 4 rules posters on range #1 and Range #2 with similar posters of the NRA three rules of firearms safety. The Cooper rules contradict our long-standing range rules. - The Board approved this change. - We have a proposed calendar for CMP and NRA matches for There are no apparent conflicts; these are generally on the same weekend as the Basic Pistol Class. The most likely conflict is the annual 3D Archery event in July, which takes a whole weekend. What dates in 2019 are planned for the 3D archery shoot? - Proposed CMP or NRA Match dates for 2019 at Kenmore: February 10 th, March 10 th, April 14 th, May 5 th, June 9 th, July 14 th (3D Archery?), August 11 th, September 8 th, October 13 th, November 10 th, December 8 th. - On the education side of rifle shooting, I have a conflict for the scheduled August Basic Rifle class, would like to reschedule it for August There are no current conflicts on the calendar. (Pistol class, Highpower match.) - The next Rifle Committee meeting is scheduled for June 13 th, at 7 PM in the chalet. Ali Rizvi, Handgun Committee: - May Meeting: 12 special use, 4 probation starts, and 20 total attendees Safety Concern: - Only 1 spot in center of 7-yard Bullseye - range master not in sync with handgun

4 Page 4 the Sportsman Newsletter July 2018 presentation. - Sent presentation to Chuck & Mark to be distributed to all range master for review. - In future, updates sent to range master and they take the online test periodically. Discussion: - Happy to report active discussion happening at committee meeting beyond just special use presentation. - Adjustable scope height request from members of different height at Range #3. Question from the Handgun Committee Board: - Follow up on rapid-fire proposal At this point, the Board has decided to not allow rapid-fire on any Range. - Follow up on max 2 people in booth safety rule Per Management decision: it is up to the Rangemaster s discretion. There is continued discussion regarding Use Intensification, the BOD asks that the Handgun Committee discuss opening up shooting to Members on nights when the Range is currently open late for Shotgun Tuesday & Thursday. - Recommend resolution to eliminate 90- day probation requirement with immediate effect for handgun while board review new handgun special use proposal. - Time frame of new scope and variable height mounts for Range #3? Mark Silver will work with Jeff L. to order the scopes and mounts. Next Meeting: Second Sunday of the month - June 10 at 7 PM at Chalet (July 8 Sunday at 7 PM) Dave Elliott, Shotgun Committee via text notification: - 8 Members attended. - Safety Concern: none to report. - S&S Stockfitters performed fittings for 21 shooters. - Summer Multiplex starts June 7 th, 5-9pm - June 4 th Members Shotgun Night will have 5-Stand open - $7/per, 5-8:pm to allow for shutdown (ran 15 lines), will possibly run again in August. - August 20 th Members Night will be a potluck, Fun Shoot night (wobble doubles, 27-yd buddy backer, 23-yd Continental) - Talk of a PSCA Event in September 2019, maybe 1-4 days. - Early talks of a possible blended Shotgun and Archery event. - One Member asked for a rain shelter on the trap field. - Members have also asked for ground markers for the pattern board. - Ladies Shotgun Night is struggling and needs volunteers to continue to run monthly. Andrew Gough has put up an article on the website and in the newsletter. - One of the Trappers has caught 4 different public shooters shooting steel shot. Mark Silver will handle protocol. The Club has found a POS system that we would like to purchase sometime in July. One of the Shot Show orders had a small problem with overcharging, but the Club caught it and we were credited for their error. Received a review from our CPA and

5 July 2018 the Sportsman Newsletter Page 5 Tax Attorney regarding our 501c4 update. There are some questions that will need to be addressed, but the process is moving forward. Treasurer's Report: The sales for this past month were lower than that of May of Year-to-date we are lower than last year s sales. Old Business: The Active Shooter Training held in May was well received, with attendees from both the Membership and our community. Discussed developing streaming safety videos for each Range and a web site virtual tour for the Club. Discussion regarding Ladies Nights: Ladies Shotgun Night is on hold until further notice (pending increased volunteerism), Ladies Pistol Night will continue as scheduled. Mark Silver is going to take up the research of the new scopes for the Ranges. New Business: Joe Rinaldi moved to accept the updated Rifle Range Rules. Passed. Marc Champagne moved to update the Range Safety Rules on Ranges 1 & 2 with a follow up on the quiz for Public Shooters. Passed. Discussed the possibility of inviting a food truck on to the premises. Larry Mallory will look in to the options. 10 Members were present at the WCW Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee. Looking for the Committees to come up with their own long-term plans and then present them to the Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee. Next meeting is July 8 th, 2018 at 3:pm. Highpower Rifle Match June 10, 2018 I m not going to moan about the low participation instead express gratitude for those that did show. A special KUDO to Robert Shuey bringing his friend James Baker to join the fun. Being a special friend, Robert provided James with a rifle, glove, sling and ammo to use for his first ever High Power Match. All of James shots were on the paper and he finished the match with a 269. Not bad at all for a first timer using a vintage 1903 Bolt Rifle. Top gun for this match was Fuzhou Hu, firing X. Rounding out the relay was Robert Shuey firing 445-8X. Are these guys scaring others off? Don t forget that the club has a Garand that you can use in one of our matches. Drop me an for the specifics. 6 Page 6 the Sportsman Newsletter July 2018 Match Report for June 2018 We had a very good turnout for our June match with fourteen shooters showing up to try to shoot tens and elevens. It was good to see the good-natured Matt Caldwell back with us, having gotten out from under and surviving his oppressive job at UPS. Hope to see you every month Matt. It was a nice day but there were pretty strong winds blowing out of the direction of the Canadians. They must still be mad at us. Can t blame them. So there weren t as many 100 plus scores as we would normally expect. By the end of the match it was pretty warm with a strong mirage to contend with. Or to use if you know how. Here s how the shooting ran its course. Four matches, ten shots each. The center dot is an eleven so the best possible score is 110 points per match, not so easy especially at 300 yards which is the distance we shot at this morning. In custom class Tom Horne got off to a roaring start, setting a high bar from the beginning. He shot the best single score of the day, posting 104 points. Rick Graham and Ted Larson both scored 101 points for second place and Khanh Nguyen was third with an even 100. In Factory, Matt Daly was first scoring 97 points. The formidable team of Cindy Vu and Doris Locke was second with 97 and Ernie Snyder was third with 95 points. In match two, Rick and Jeff Locke shared first place with scores of 100. Likewise, David Locke and Dan Kjelland each shot 99 for second place and Tom had 98 points for third. In Factory class, Doris/ Cindy were the best, with 100 points. Ernie and Matt Daly each had 97 points for second place and Brian Walker was third with 93 points. In the third match, Rick continued to show his wind reading ability and scored 102 points for first place. Ted, Dan and Khanh all had 101 points for second place and father and son, Jeff and David Locke, shared third place, each scoring 98 points. In factory class, Doris and Cindy remained dominant with 99 points. Second place went to Ernie and Dennis Tyskiewicz was third scoring 92 points. Okay, the last match of the day. David Locke showed what a fine young shooter he is, scoring 102 points for first place. Ted and Dan both had 99 points for second and Rick was third with 98 points. In Factory, Doris/Cindy shot custom class scores again, with 99 points, first place. In second, it was Ernie with 97 points and Matt Daly scored 93 points for third place. When all the points were added up, Rick was the winner in Custom class with a total of 401 points. In Factory, as has been happening regularly lately, Doris and Cindy were the winners with 395 points. Our next match is July 21. For variety, we ll shoot this match at 200 yards which will seem like close range for us now. Thanks to everyone for help setting up and taking down the target boards, to Matt Daly and Brian Walker for helping staple up all the targets, (56 in all!) and to Jeff Locke for helping score them all. 7 July 2018 the Sportsman Newsletter Page 7 The Summer PITA Multiplex got started on June 7th, we had 17 shooters, 3 of whom are new to competitive shooting, the shoot comprised of Kenmore members shooting 2400 targets in 4 events, singles, handicap, doubles and sub-gauge. Robert Miller was high gun for the night! One of the new members to start shooting for Kenmore this summer is Soo Drechsler, Soo started through the Ladies Night and has now moved up to as she says, "Shoot with the big boys"!! We are glad to have you shooting for Kenmore! The next shoot will be July 5th, so come on out and enjoy the fun! The Washington State Shoot is coming up next month and we will have 3 Junior and 1 Sub Junior representing the Club, Meryn Gregory (G3) and Thomas Stewart and Justin Atkinson! This coming Members Night Only night on August 20th the shot gun committee is holding a potluck dinner and fun shoot, we will have prizes for several different shoots as well as Annie Oakley shoots, this will be a fun night, so dust off your duck guns and come out and enjoy a fun night of fun shoots!!!
