Because of your continual enthusiasm and effort over the last 4 weeks, Team Sunshine Coast Karate has won the Telstra Connected Community competition! WHAT A TEAM!!! But that s not all When we got offical word, the phone call went something like this Well you probably already guessed why I m calling. YOU WON! In fact, Sunshine Coast Karate got the most votes out of any of these competitions we ve run throughout the entire country. You have an amazing community behind you. The final surge of voting over the last few days, especially on the Sunday was incredible. It was great to see everyone getting behind our club. If you haven t seen the photos and videos on facebook from the final group voting last Sunday, be sure to check them out.and before we go any further, we would love to say a huge thank you to everyone for all of your amazing support over the last month with voting and sharing on social media. Without everyone getting out and voting we would not have won. What Next So now with the voting all done and results official, next step is to collect the prize and get a Big Ass Fan in the dojo. We ll be giving them a call today to organise a date for the installation. Summer will never be the same in the dojo again. And then. It s Party Time!!! Telstra has put their hand up to help Team Sunshine Coast Karate celebrate and we want you to be there. The party will be hosted at the dojo. Once we have confirmed a date with the Telstra Team, you ll be first to know. Thank you once again for your support. 3 Sunshine Coast Karate UPDATE: NEW TRAINING SPACE A big thank you to Sensei Martin and Richard Garnett for investing a great deal of time and effort to complete the flooring. There are still a few more things to do, but we hope to open the space in term 3 for a short trial period before an official launch. WHO WERE THE FIRST TO TRAIN IN THE UPSTAIRS SPACE? We got a little excited this week and had a smaller size teens-adult class on Tuesday night so we thought we d test out the new training space. Senpai Matt got the class kick started with a warm up and we were on our way. Our lucky students getting to test out this training area was Senpai Matt, Senpai Keanu, Senpai Bailey, Renae, Justin, Andrew & Lachlan. I hope everyone enjoyed their training. Entries close 10:30am, Saturday 30th June 2018 All entries will be displayed in the Little Monkeys Room at the dojo. Entries can be downloaded online or picked up from the front desk. SCK INSTRUCTORS SUPPORTING LOCAL JAPANESE LANGUAGE STUDENTS Japanese language teacher from the Kawana High School, Nicole Notting Sensei, continues to go above and beyond to provide her students with memorable learning experiences to not only develop their language skills but to also experience the Japanese culture right here on the Sunshine Coast. Last Friday the 4th May, Notting Sensei organised a full day of activities for her students (30 students) which I m certain will be remembered by her students for many years to come. Dance, suikawari (a traditional Japanese game which involves splitting a watermelon with a stick), mochitsuki (pounding of rice to make mochi annual tradition that usually happens around New Years), lunch at a popular Japanese Restaurant at Dicky Beach and KARATE. Sensei Martin did a fabulous job presenting an hour long karate training session of kihons (basics) which was delivered in both English and Japanese. This was followed by a brief discussion of the history of Karate and a demonstration. A big thank you to Notting Sensei for inviting us along to this special day. It is certainly a great opportunity for all Kawana High School students to advance their Japanese language studies and gain a deeper appreciation of the Japanese culture.
