From the President s Desk We have been extremely busy as a Club the last of May and first part of June. Our First Annual Spring Classic Car Show was Saturday, May 25th at Integrity Chevrolet. We had great weather, music, food, and of course, the Fabulous cars! This Show was a HUGE success thanks to all of the Volunteers and Integrity Chevrolet. Tim and Jean Nutz planned a lunch cruise to Junkyard Dog Steakhouse in Hohenwald, Tn.. We added a bonus after lunch by touring the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg. As always, we had a great time and no one got lost or took any wrong turns, that we will admit to anyway. Glen Miller, President of our Sister Club, Mountain City Corvette Association and I talked about getting our Clubs together for something other than a car show. On June 8th we did just that. After a cruise through the Chickamauga Battlefield, we stopped for a group photo at Gordon Lee High School and then had lunch at the Melon Patch. We all had a wonderful time and we will be getting together again for a Car Care Clinic and dinner on November 16th. We have a lot of activities coming up including the Firecracker Rod Run on July 4th, our annual Car Show on the River, Aug. 3rd, and a few more exciting things we will discuss at this months regular monthly meeting on Thursday, June 20th at O'Charley's in Hixson, 6:00 pm to order and socialize, meeting starts at 7:00 pm. See you there! Robin Peterson, President Robin Peterson 4
Jerry and Judy Davis Most Memorable Car Show Ever!! For Jerry and Judi Davis the Integrity Show Your Ride car show may be the best show they ever attended. You see Jerry and Judy found their new Corvette in the show room that day. In Jerry s words: We like the new Vette, we haven`t drove it very much. Haven`t had it on the open road yet. It handles better than the C5 and the ride is better and quieter and I am sure it is quicker than the C5 and the look of the C6 is COOL!!! I talked with the owner at Integrity that give us a great deal, I also want to thank the salesman Daniel Lowe Jr. Very easy to work with everything went smooth. The Davis New Corvette. Awesome!!! 5
Tim and Jean Nutz Search for HER Dream Vette The Search for Corvette #2 (The way I see it) About 8 to 10 months ago, Jean and I started talking about purchasing a stable mate for the Other woman. I told her that this would be HER car and I wouldn t make any modifications that she didn t want to do. (This may be easier said than done) Since it was her car, Jean said I want a Supersonic Blue convertible. There was a list of items that I deemed necessary as well. So the search started, internet, Hendricks, Corvette Forum, and any other place that I could look. Well at some point, we saw one that had the blue convertible top and then that became another must have. Little did we know how much this combination would narrow the search. We would find a candidate on a website only to find out that the dealer had sold that car weeks or months ago and just never got around to taking it off of their webpage. That really started to p---- me off after about the 3 rd or 4 th time. Then in late April, I spotted one in Concord, New Hampshire at a Corvette Store. I called the next day and talked to the dealer. He told me that he hadn t actually got the car in yet but it was due any day. After exchanging several s and lots and lots of pictures, we agreed on terms. The dealer had told me after several days of negotiating that he had received numerous calls on the same car. We had the car transported to Chattanooga on Mothers Day for a perfect gift. Lets see if this will get me any points off of next years Mothers Day gift buying. We are still undecided on a license plate name so tell Jean if you have any good ideas. Jean s New Grand Sport Corvette 6
RCCC and Integrity Chevrolet Show Your Ride Car Show. The first annual River City Corvette Club and Integrity Chevrolet open car show was a huge success with participants coming in from Knoxville, Atlanta, Nashville, Pikeville and other cites in the surrounding area. It was great to see old friends again and catch up on the latest news. What can you say about our member volunteers, AWESOME!!! Robin Peterson, Ron Kellogg and Mike Nabors did a great job up and during the show. Norma Harless, Carol Kellogg and Betty Burrows for doing registration. Thanks to all the other volunteers who did the 50/50 sales, the judges for judging the cars and every member present that made new friends with all participants. Then there is Integrity Chevrolet what a prodigious effort to make their grand opening a huge success. RCCC and Integrity Chevrolet a winning team. 7

RCCC and Integrity Chevrolet Show Your Ride Car Show. Editors Note: I ran into a good friend today at the car show. He is also a sponsor of RCCC, Chris Williams Insurance Agency. Chris and I worked together at TVA back in the day. We golfed together, pulled pranks and more or less became good friends over those years when work was actually fun. We spent a lot of time at the show just talking about old times. Some things I had forgotten and some things I wish he had forgotten. Chris chose to take the early out in 88 at TVA and go into business for himself and he has done well. He is my agent and he has saved RCCC members thousands of dollars, yes thousands. I will put a plug in for a good friend if you want to save some money give Chris a call and let him give you quote. But don't believe a word he says about the Ole Colonel. Just sayin Larry Harless 9
Tim and Jean Nutz Attended The Myrtle Beach Car Show On May 31, Jean and left for the Myrtle Beach Corvette Show to be held on June 1 in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Broadway on The Beach. We left Chattanooga about 8 am and decided we would see how far we could get with the top down. Well, as luck would have it, we made it 500 miles with only 3 drops of rain. I might add, maybe too much sun, if there is such a thing. It was an absolutely gorgeous ride. We arrived in Myrtle Beach about 4:30 that afternoon and checked into the Springmaid Beach Resort. Nice place with a direct view of the ocean about 100 yards away. There was a reception that night in the resort for all that wanted to attend. That night the hotel parking lot looked like a corvette used car lot. There was every type, color and year of car there. The show started on Saturday morning about 4 miles away at Broadway on the Beach which is an amusement park kind of location. There was plenty of parking for the 300 plus corvettes in attendance. I saw every year from There was a DJ playing music all day, Ben and Jerry s ice cream stand and plenty of other nutrition available. Plenty of trophies and plaques were handed out, there was an auction of gift baskets and lots of other Corvette items. One of their charities for the year is a group that donates assistance dogs to veterans and they had about 8 dogs at the car show. It was amazing to see how well trained the dogs were. One of their abilities was to walk up to anyone that would hold out a dollar bill, take gently from your hand and then walk it over to the handler, who was holding a small bucket, and drop it into the bucket. Well, needless to say, this caught Jeans eye very quickly. She proceeded to open up my, OOPs, her wallet and start feeding the dogs. After she ran out of singles, she brought out a $10 and told the dog Now I need some Change. The handler told her No Problem. After the dog dropped the large bill in the bucket, he proceeded to give the dog a bunch of $1 and instructed the dog to go back to Jean with her change, which the dog did without a hitch. In my opinion, all this did was make the poor dog make about 9 more trips because we all know what happened to the rest of the $1 bills. Yep, all ended up back in the bucket, but it was a great cause. After the auction and awards, the 50/50 was given away with the winner, not me, taking home $775. All in all, I would highly recommend going next year if you have the opportunity. By: Tim Nutz 10

Cruzin With Our Sister Corvette Club Mountain City Corvette Club It was and absolute beautiful day for a ride in the Vettes with the tops down. RCCC and MCCC got together for a cruise through the Chickamauga Battlefield. This is one of my favorite cruises. One can almost hear the cannon fire and the whiz of mini balls whizzing through the air on these hallowed grounds with the monuments marking the spots of the various battalions. The Confederate Army broke through the Union lines with Longstreet s charge and pushed them Yankees all the way back to Chattanooga. This set up the battle above the clouds on Lookout Mountain. With General Grant commanding the Union Army. After the drive through the battlefield we went to Gordon Lee High School for pictures of the cars. After that, well you guessed it off to the Melon Patch for dinner. Yea got to have food if you travel with RCCC. Just Cruzin 12
Trip to the Junk Yard Dog Restaurant and Jack Daniels Distillery On Sunday, May 26th a small but hungry group departed the Tifftonia Cracker Barrel parking lot for a drive across Southern Tennessee. The two things in mind are lunch at the Junkyard Dog Steakhouse in Hohenwald, Tennessee and cruisin on back roads in a Corvette. Tim and Jean led the group in their new 2011 Grand Sport followed by Mark and Robin Peterson, Joe and Wendy Rath bringing up the rear was Denton Henderson and Mary. Our route of three & a half hours took us through small scenic towns like Winchester, Lewisburg and Mt. Pleasant. Inside the Junkyard Dog Steakhouse ( ) is an eclectic collection of old toys, country knick-knacks, funny signs & even a big bull head with Christmas lights on its horns. Their menu varied from steak to burgers to Cajun pasta. With our tanks full of good comfort food & drinks we drove off to Lynchburg, Tennessee for a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery. As most trips, with a few wrong turns, a u-turn or two, a short cut through the Natchez Trace State Park & turning too soon only to blow past a guard at the gate of the distillery, we made it just in time for the last tour of the day. The free tour was very interesting & our tour guide was friendly & informative. The tour detailed the life of Jack Daniels, the history of the distillery & process of how the whiskey was made and still is today; two hundred years later. Many of the original buildings are still used for storage of the millions of barrels of whiskey. After the tour, (and still feeling light-headed from the alcohol fumes at the distillery) we walked around the town of Lynchburg and souvenir shopped. On the drive home, we finished the evening with dinner at Jim Oliver s Smoke House in Monteagle. Crusin in the Vettes, nice weather, beautiful scenery & good times with great people what a great day!
