From The President s Desk Our Classic Car Show On The River was a HUGE success! I want to congratulate the Car Show Committee and ALL of the RCCC Volunteers who worked so hard to FLAWLESSLY pull off a show of this magnitude. We've had numerous texts, calls and s from members of other clubs complimenting RCCC on this show. Some of the comments include "BEST Show we have attended ALL year!", "BEST Show we have EVER attended", "Our hats off to River City Corvette Club. We were expecting just another run-of-the-mill car show. However, it was extremely professional and well run. You guys really know how to put on a Car Show! We are looking forward to next year"...and the accolades go on and on. I have heard compliments on every aspect of the show. Attendees loved the food, auction baskets, Show Shirts, Goodie Bags, Trophies, Vendor selection and especially how nice and helpful our Volunteers were. 7 HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIVER CITY CORVETTE CLUB!!!!!

August Spotlight: C4 ZR-1 Few new cars have ever caused the stir that whipped up around the 1990 Corvette ZR-1. It started with fuzzy spy photos and Detroit gossip about a high-powered, King of the Hill model. Chevrolet was coy, neither confirming nor denying the grist of the rumor mill. Rumor became fact at the 1989 Geneva Auto Show, when the ZR-1 officially debuted. It was a time when performance cars were only beginning to regain some of the performance enjoyed during the heyday of the muscle car, and the ZR-1's 375-horespower (280 kw) LT5 V-8 engine with its DOHC configuration and four-valve heads was an intoxicating breath of highoctane excitement.

C4 ZR-1 (Cont.) The all-aluminum LT5 engine's design was a collaboration of GM and Lotus Engineering, sharing only a 5.7-liter displacement with other small-block engines. The engine was built by Mercury Marine, which was renowned for its aluminum machining capability. Engineers were justifiably proud of the LT5's refinement and smoothness; so much so that it was claimed a nickel placed on its end on top of the engine wouldn't fall over when the engine was started. The challenge was immediately taken up and the LT5 roared to life while the nickel remained standing. The ZR-1 was more than merely a more powerful Corvette it was a complete performance package that included wider rear bodywork to accommodate humongous rear tires and a unique, convex rear fascia with rectangular tail lamps that made the car recognizable at a glance. The distinctive exterior elements contributed to the car's mythical status among enthusiasts and auto critics. At its launch, the ZR-1 was found on the cover of just about every automotive publication around the globe, with Car and Driver dubbing it the Corvette from Hell.

C4 ZR-1 (Cont.) During 1990, the premium ZR-1 recorded 3,044 sales. Subsequent model years didn't quite match the buzz created by that first year, even with a horsepower increase to 405 (302 kw) in This was due partly to all Corvette models from 1991 through 1995 the ZR-1's 1995 final year wearing convex rear fascia s that made them almost indistinguishable from the higher-performance King of the Hill models. Total production of the ZR-1 was 6,939. Article By the National Corvette Museum

C4 ZR1 (Cont.) Thanks to John and Peggy Maine for letting us take pictures of their beautiful Corvettes!!!!

Happy Birthday from the River City Corvette Club! VOTS Car Show President Robin Peterson reported the VOTS Car Show was a success and a good time was had by all who attended. Mike announced some RCCC club members represented the club well and winners included Jerry & Judy Davis (newer 66 Best of Show) and Larry & Norma Harless (older C6 Best of Show). Firecracker Rod Run-July Fourth Car Show President Robin Peterson reported the Firecracker Rod Run was a successful show and the veterans appreciated the support of the River City Corvette Club in running the show. The veterans donated a check for our club s charities as a token of their appreciation. There are few issues to tackle to improve the show for next year but all in all it was a beautiful day for a successful show. Robin thanked the RCCC members who attended and helped with this show. Robin reported there were 24 RCCC cars in attendance. Jerry Ray, Gary & Sheila Martin and Brian & Shelly Williams were presented trophies at the show. Corvettes at Carlisle Ernie Pierce, club coordinator for Corvettes at Carlisle, stated does not have an update for the Corvettes at Carlisle trip for tonight s meeting however he does plan to speak individually with those scheduled to attend. At this point he has not heard from Albie Reppert (Skyline Drive Corvette Club). Robin will make sure Albie has Ernie s contact information. Chris DeRogatis Update Emily Seiter reported Chris DeRogatis has recently completed a round of chemotherapy and one area that was worrisome came back negative so that is encouraging.

RCCC Car Show on the River President Robin Peterson stated the August 2nd car show is fast approaching. She asked club members to distribute fliers at any car show or cruise-in they plan to attend. Everyone is encouraged to donate at least one canned food item to The Chattanooga Food Bank at the show. Robin stated there are still 19 plaques to sell for the August 2nd car show. Plaques are $25 each. Mike reported several businesses have purchased plaques. He encouraged club members to contact any business connections they may have. Robin stated if all the plaques sell then there is the possibility of selling trophies. Robin stated there are four confirmed vendors for the show. Robin stated all RCCC charities are encouraged to have a vendor tent free of charge. Robin and Judy Davis are working together on vendors for the show. Robin stated it takes a lot of many volunteers to make for a successful show and to raise the most money we can for our charities. Robin distributed volunteer sheets for club members to sign up for slots. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean-up, donation baskets, 50/50, parking, judging, registration, food sales, T-shirt sales, bed & dresser ticket sales, door prizes, floaters, runners and golf cart drink sales. Robin stated it is very important to get help for clean-up after the show. In the past members cleared out when the show was over leaving 2-4 people behind to deal with clean-up. The more volunteers there are the faster clean-up will go. Robin stated club members planning to volunteer at the show need to be at the River Park at 7:00am. Robin stated she has a contact who sells golf carts and he is donating the use of two golf carts at the show. He only asked that responsible adults be able to drive the carts and the carts advertise his golf cart sales. Robin stated this year there will be donation baskets prepared for car show participants to try to win. Tickets for the donation baskets are $1.00 each. Participants can buy several tickets and put them in one basket

or spread them amongst several baskets. Robin asked club members if they have something they would like to donate for the donation baskets to get the item to her as soon as possible. Club members could also donate money for board members to purchase items for the baskets. Any amount would be appreciated. Gary Martin announced he would donate a Dale Earnhardt jacket. Robin stated club members usually bring a dessert to the car show that will be included as part of the $5.00 meal deal from the food tent. Mike stated there are plans for our club to cruise to Jacob Myers with the VOTS after the show. Mike stated the VOTS have been very supportive of RCCC car shows and this will be a time for our club to spend time with the VOTS before they head back to Bristol. Mike encouraged club members to let him know if they are interested in attending so he can give Jacob Myers a head count. Robin stated it would be best if the cruise to Jacob Myers could start after clean-up so everyone who wishes can participate. Working Cruise-in to Prepare for the Car Show on the River Robin will send an to club members with details about the working cruise-in scheduled for July 26th at 4:00pm. Everyone should bring a covered dish or dessert to share. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided. Goodie bags and donation baskets will be prepared at the cruise in. Friday Night Lights President Robin Peterson stated this month has been a busy month for various car shows and events and there were not any Friday Night Lights outings. There will be a Friday Night Lights scheduled for Friday August 1st and after the August 2nd car show Friday Night Lights will resume on schedule.
