1 February 24, 2015 Red Clay Review Figure Skating Katie Halliday had a strong startt at Canada Games, skating a clean short program this morning. She earned a score that was decimals shy of her personal best. Looking ahead to her free program skate, Katie and her coaches are feeling confident and are optimistic about the opportunity to climb in the rankings. Katie currently sits in 7th place in a field of 18 skaters going into Thursday's free program. Snowboarding The Canada Games snowboard competition officially got underway today at Purden Ski Village. PEI's Mark Morrison competed among a field of 19 athletes in parallel giant slolam. He put forward two strong runs, despite icy conditions. As one of the youngest athletes competiting in snowboard at this year's Games, he would have the the opportunity to competee in the sport for PEI at the Games in Mark competes in snowboard cross, his areaa of specialty, on Saturday. Synchronized Swimming

2 All three of PEI's synchronized swimmers took to the pool today, along with 88 others for the figures competiton. Victoria McQuaid, Rachel Waddell and Daniel Kataeva swam in figures this morning, finishing middle of the pack. Victoria was one of 20 swimmers competing in the solo event at the Prince George Aquatics Centre this evening. Coach Dawson was happy with Victoria's strong performance, which has her advancing to Saturday's A Final. Apprentice Coaches Among Team PEI's contingent at this year's Canada Winter Games are two apprentice coaches - Travis Cheverie and Hailey Hennessey. Both are part of national programs focussed on building coaching capacity across Canada through training and development, especially in underrepresented populations in coaching, such as women and aboriginals. Travis is an apprentice coach with Judo and Hailey is an apprentice with synchronized swimming.
