It was a new experience for Brenda and 5 other delegates but the meeting went very well. Summary: The CDSA s finances are doing well. The telemarketing is decreasing; but the funding support from Sport Canada had increased. For the Pan-American Games for the Deaf or Deaflympics; CDSA will help with 50% of the costs and the athletes will have to raise the remaining 50% themselves. Women Volleyball (Training Camp soon)! Bowling (Training Camp soon)! Swimming! Athete! Beach Volleyball! Cycling Road! Men Basketball Maybe (If one country drop out; Canada will qualify). Deaflympic Chef de Mission: Terry Maloney Canada Deaf Games was very successful in Edmonton, Alberta. Unfortunately, there were no bids for the 2014 Canada Deaf Games. The deadline to bid was postponed to November 30 th, 2012 CDSA will announce their decision. Kim Rizzi s Farewell Party The CDSA Executive Director, Kim Rizzi, had resigned from the CDSA on September 19 th, But, she always will be part of CDSA. There was a Farewell Party for her on October 19 th and she will always be remembered.! Athlete of the Year Summer: Philippe Ouellet! 3 Alberta THE LOREM Deaf Sports IPSUMS Association December WINTER Event Updates 1 st World Deaf Beach Volleyball Championship Kudos to Jon Kassian and Scot Whiteley for putting in their best effort when they played in the games. They both hope to qualify for the Summer Deaflympic 2013 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Everything was a new experience for them being in Turkey. Especially the food, the environment, the food, and the language. But they managed to learn and communicate with all people from different countries that attended. 4 Alberta THE LOREM Deaf Sports IPSUMS Association December WINTER th Brooker Cup For the second time in a row, Team Alberta guided by Captain Grant Underschultz, beat Team British Columbia by 23½ to 12½ during 9 th Brooker Cup Golf Match Play at beautiful Radium Hot Springs, B.C. September 15 & 16, Special thanks to ADSA for supporting Team Alberta. Team Alberta golfers: Grant Underschultz, Rob Cundy, Grant Robertson, Dennis Warick, Jim Fleckenstein, Bruce Gibson, Mark Duncan and Dean Stuber. 10 th Brooker Cup will be held in the year th World Deaf Golf Championship Rob Cundy s Golf in TSU, Japan: TSU, Japan hosted 9 th World Deaf Golf Championships. Thirteen countries participated with approximately 100 golfers (men, women and seniors). Rob came in 7 th place and the men senior team came in 2 nd place. The highlights were: 1. Excellent weather: 25 to 27 degree everyday 2. Top-rated and friendly service (400 volunteers) 3. Delicious and healthy Japanese foods served everyday 4. Challenging golf course; spotted about 45 macaques (monkey) on the 8 th green, 5. Japanese s fancy toilet system (heated seat, power wash, etc.) The 10 th WDGC will be held in Michigan, USA The 11 th WDGC will be in Denmark

5 Alberta THE LOREM Deaf IPSUMS Sports Association December WINTER Curling Fun Bonspiel November 4 th, 2012 It has been more than 10 years since the last Curling Bonspiel was held. But finally, the Canada women s curling team hosted the Bonspiel on November 4 th, There were 10 teams that participated; especially the Wheelchair Team. They had given up their league and join the Bonspiel to support the Canada Women Team. The curlers levels of skills ranged from the beginners to advanced; yet, everyone really enjoyed it and played their best. We are going to host the Curling Fun Bonspiel next year FOR SURE! We hope to bring the Gold back home in March! 5

6 Alberta THE LOREM Deaf IPSUMS Sports Association December WINTER Partnership with Alberta School for the Deaf Volunteers Every month, ADSA volunteered to provide activities and watch the kids while ACSD provided the ASL Classes for the parents. If you are interested to volunteer, please let ADSA know. (You will be required to have a Criminal Background Check and Child Welfare). Next Dates: January 26 th February 23 rd March 30th Gym Members are welcomed to use the ASD Gym every Tuesday and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. You can use the gym for fitness, practice or leisure activities. Junior High School ASD Volleyball It was very exciting to watch the Junior High School ASD Volleyball in the playoffs. Kimberly Keba had coached the ASD students and they played very well.! November 16 th they played in the quarterfinals and they won!! November 23 rd they played in the semi-finals and they lost. They played their best.! November 30 th they played for the 3 rd Place, but they lost and placed 4 th. Good Job! Award: the frame of Jon/Scot with their autograph. ADSA had received the Thank You from 2012 Canada Deaf Games. Lynnette Charest-Lapratte had given the presentation and the award. Award: the frame with the medal. In Appreciation of Your Support XI Commonwealth Games 1978 Uniform Thank you, Larry Rosell, for donating your uniform to ADSA. We will frame it and put on the wall. It has been 34 years since it was used and the uniform still looks so new. 7
