1 2018 C A L G A R Y Canadian Police Curling Championship Championnat Canadien de Curling des Policiers April 14-21, 2018 Calgary, Alberta
2 WELCOME I am pleased to be host Chair for the 2018 Canadian Police Curling Championship. The aim of the Host Committee is to ensure all participants and guests have a great and memorable experience. It is important for us to carry on the tradition of camaraderie and competition involved with the Championship, but we want to ensure we honor you, the participants and family members, for your service in our very noble profession. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our title sponsor, World Financial Group, and all the others, of which there are many: without their support we wouldn t be able to put on these Championships and make a contribution to Tourette Canada. I would be remiss if I didn t recognize those who have volunteered their time setting up and working the event. Again, without these people we wouldn t be able to enjoy this event. Special thanks to SSQ Insurance for providing the events competitors insurance. The committee looks forward to hosting you and we are currently making arrangements for nice weather. See you in April! Joel Matthews, Host Chair CHIEF S WELCOME I want to welcome all competitors and guests to Calgary for the Canadian Police Curling Championship. As a Service, we are excited to host this Championship for a third time. While in Calgary, you ll be setting aside the honourable work that you do in celebration of sport, camaraderie and competition. Thank you for dedicating yourselves to our profession the work you do every day has a significant impact on the communities across our great country. We are pleased to have you and wish you the best of luck in the competition! Chief Constable Roger Chaffin
3 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE 2018 It is my pleasure on behalf of the National Executive and the Organizing Commitee to take this opportunity to welcome all competitors to Calgary for the 2018 Canadian Police Curling Championships. As we all know it takes a tremendous amount of time to organize our National championships and I would like to thank Joel Matthews and his Committee for all their dedication and time in organizing this year s event to the huge success it will be. It is my pleasure to announce that World Financial Group - WFG have come on board to support and sponsor Canadian Police Curling. Calgary Host Joel Matthews and the CPCA Executive have worked hard to secure this National Sponsorship. Provincially, WFG will also become our Presenting Sponsor for police curling in all regions. Robb Befus who is it the Executive Marketing Officer for WFG, stated We are now very excited to be partnering with the CPCA over the next few years to corporately sponsor your Canadian Curling Championships!. When we announced that the home office was begining this new partnership with the CPCA, our field agents from across Canada reached out and asked how they could become involved in this great partnership. After learning where all the Provincial play downs are to be held this year, we contacted our local offices in or near the cities to have someone locally sponsor the events. Full details of the financial commitments will be disclosed to the membership at the Annual General Meeting in Calgary in April. In 1955, the Canadian Association of the Chiefs of Police formed the CPCA for the purpose of encouraging fellowship and liason amoung Canadian police officers as well as promoting the game of curling in Canada. Since that time there has been a Canadian Championship held annually at various locations across the Country. In 2016 the mandate was expanded to include peace officers as well as police officers. WFG wants to promote and assist us with police curling to see the number of teams continue to grow in each Province, let s take advantage of the wonderful opportunity and grow the sport of police curling once again! Wishing all the very best of luck!!!!! Stuart Knockwood, President Canadian Police Curling Association
