For those of you who have supported the Rally in past years remember years when we wore short sleeve shirts and then one year when we all drove in cars and endured blizzard conditions at the Square. One of the speakers this year will be the sister of Lance Cpl David R. Hall of Elyria Ohio who lost his life on August 31, 2009 in Operation Enduring Freedom. Please show your support by planning at attending the Rally on Sunday April 25, 2010 at 11 AM. We will have a chapter members only group ride to the rally that morning. Congratulations to all the Lake Erie HOG Chapter bowlers who successfully won the 1 st Annual Bowling Challenge with Cleveland West HOG Chapter. We had twenty bowlers show their skills and many other members watched our performance. This will become an annual event and hopefully more of our members will participate next year. Top male bowler was Nick Halpin and the top ladies bowler was Kathy Kelly. (Kathy had the third highest series of all the Lake Erie HOG bowlers.) and is continually updated by our webmaster Ken Unger Mike Stevens reminded us that Colin Dessault will be performing for the St. Patty s Day Sale on March 13 th. Hope to see you during the month at our HOG social events or at the dealership. One last reminder, please be careful as spring rolls around. I know some of you have already been out in the breaking weather we have had and some of you have plans to get out soon. Remember, the drivers in the cars are not used to seeing you and there is loose dirt, salt and sand in some of the corners. We want to see you for the entire season and many more to follow so, watch out for the other guy, be careful around the loose stuff, and have some fun!! John KIKS Kikol Director As I indicated at the February chapter meeting we have a full calendar of events and rides thanks to Charlotte Bledsoe, Activities Chair and Jerry Ciganko, Head Road Captain. There are sign up sheets for each ride during the riding season and we encourage you to sign up at any of the chapter meetings. The events and rides can be found on our website

2 Page 2 Lake Erie Chapter # 3738 Page 2 Lake Erie Chapter # 3738 Ringo Says - Ron Long Assistant Director HI Everyone, I want to thank everyone that showed up for the bowling challenge with West Cleveland Chapter. It was a great time. We plan on doing it again next year, but at their house. For those of you that missed it, well, maybe next time, Riding season is not that far off. Even though old man winter still has some kick left, we are on the down side of it all. There are still some events that do not require a bike to have fun. All you have to do check the website and see what kind of activities we have planned for the rest of the non riding season. Some of us officers plan on attending the yearly P.O.T. session that is being held in Raleigh, NC. I know that with good weather, I plan on riding down to get a good start on the mileage program. (that is free to all members) We will be meeting other officers form many different chapters from around the country. We share different ideas for rides and events. It is well worth the time to attend. Just because it s wet and cold outside, doesn t mean you have to hide at home all winter. Get out and see what s happening at the dealership sometime. They need to some of us every now and then. Be safe and have fun. Ron ringo Long Activities - Charlotte Bledsoe Activities The Ides of March are upon us. Looking forward to more daylight and fewer days of snow. Thanks everyone for your help in making the Valentine Potluck a huge success. We had such a good turnout that we're thinking of doing a Harvest Potluck in November. Congratulations to our bowlers - Lake Erie won over W. Cleveland Chapter. Can't wait for another challenge. March Events include: Sunday, March 4:00 p.m. Dinner at Harps Irish Pub. Saturday, March 11:00 a.m. The Tour of the Plain Dealer. Meet at the PD by 10:30 a.m. Riding soon Charlotte Membership - Bob Adamich Well anyone who wasn't a member of our Chapter sure missed a fun month of February! The pot luck, bowling challenge and Champ's Brunch were fun for all who attended. We are still growing and currently have 180 members, 145 renewal and 35 new. Just a reminder that anyone who has their National H.O.G. Membership expiring this year should renew so that they are not deactivated from our local chapter. You can't be a member of a local chapter without being an active member of National. (It saves me work from having to deactivate your membership too!) Ride safe & see you on the 25th! Bob Aamich Safety - John Gudin Well it is almost time to start the riding season. I want to let you know what the Motorcycle Safety Foundation says about parking on the street. Their advice for parking in a parallel space next to a curb is to position the motorcycle at an angle with the rear tire gently touching the curb. There are two reasons, first, many roads are sloped from the center down toward the curb. If you were to park parallel to the curb, your tires could be lower than the sidestand pad, so your bike might stand too upright and could fall over to the right. Second, if you were to park perpendicular to the curb, the front tire might jut out into the traffic lane. A careless driver looking for a parking space could knock your bike over. The angled technique should work in most conditions. Plus, it positions your bike for easy entry back into traffic. Note that some states or cities may require a different parking procedure. Also, if the parking space has a meter, there may be a limit on the number of bikes that can park there. Don t forget to feed the meter, too! John Gudin
