5 Presidents Message We re on a roll, Wolverines. We came into May with a very successful Antique Motorcycle Swap Meet entertaining a near record number of vendors and spectators. Dave Lehr and Mary Traxler are to be commended for their efforts. That same weekend saw our concurrent Vintage Motorcycle Show break all records with over 90 beautiful entrants. Thank you Nancy and Jim Summers for a Best Ever show. Thank you to the many Wolverines who helped to make the Gilmore Car Museum Vintage Weekend a success in spite of inclement weather. Russ Bailey was instrumental in coordinating a fun evening at the Perry Harley Davidson Antique Bike Night incorporating band and brew. Our next gargantuan effort will be the Wauseon Gate Duty and Lynn Steimsma has committments from over 40 Wolverines to meet our obligation. Keep our Calendar of Events handy over the next weeks and decide which activities appeal to you. El Engelter - President Secretary s Message Just a big thank you to all Wolverines for volunteering to make our summer events a succsess. We have recorded a record year in memberships and I have a new roster made if you would like a copy. Let me know if you want an copy or a hard copy. Please check all your information and let me know if there are any mistakes or changes that need to be made. Barb Engelter, Secretary AUBREE S PLAINWELL 618 Allegan St, Plainwell, MI
6 2018 Centreville Swap Meet Sorry. Outside pictures did not come out for publication. A nut was loose behind the lens. Antique Bike Night at Perry Harley Davidson It was a warm but otherwise beautiful evening on the night of June 15, 2018 as a swarm of 18 antique motorcycles decended on the Perry Harley Davidson dealership to share the Wolverine way of life with the modern riders. A very talented blues band shattered the night as the beer flowed and onlookers admired the work of our Wolverine Chapter members. The chapter trailer was on duty as Secretary Barb talked membership and signed up 4 new Wolverine members. Whiskey Creek to Host Antique Bike Night The Whiskey Creek Bar east of Battle Creek on Dickman Road will host an Antique Bike Night on Saturday August 25th beginning at 5:30 pm. The bar will feature a contempory band, participant rewards, and promises to give every one a good time. Wolverine Vice-president Scott Denny has discussed details with the owner of Whiskey Creek and they will stand the expenses of flyers, show layout, and the band. Our only obligation is to bring out some antique rides for the patrons to admire. We always like an opportunity to show our stuff.
7 Member Bikes The 101 Scout I really wanted an Indian. So, in order to do so, I needed to sell my 1936 Harley. No, it wasn t the coveted knuckle (OHV is just a passing fad. IMO) Nor was it a 36VLH. It was much rarer, a 36 RLD 45 cu. in.. This bike had taken me years to get near original condition. Finally it sold and I had cash burning a hole in my pocket. I knew of a 35/ 37 Chief rolling basket case but the owner balked at selling it now. Darn! I considered a 47 and 48 Chief, but I really wanted an older one, like the one a fellow Wolverine showed me years ago. It was back in the corner of his crowded garage and when he pulled the sheet off it my heart skipped a beat. It was love at first sight. Oh how I would love to get that one going, but, at the time, it was beyond my means. Now skip forward 10 years and I have that hot spot in my pocket. So this Scout has quite a Wolverine history.the 1st Wolverine found a collection of motorcycles and bought the English bikes. He then notified 2 Wolverine brothers who split the Indians and sold the Scout to another Wolverine, who sold it to yet another Wolverine. who sold it to me. So far, the buck stops here. My favorite part is the lower end, so smooth and well lubed. OK Let s get our mind out of the gutter. Looked as though it was rebuilt and bagged, but the end play was excessive, so I took it apart. Good thing because the rods and case rollers were all mismatched, old and new, different sizes. It may have ran, but for how long? The frame...handlebars...kicker...omg magneto...gas tank UHG! What have I got myself into? Good thing I m not paid by the hour, because this would be a million dollar bike. See ya on the road. Geez Editors note: You may recall the story, in a previous issue of Wolverine Tales, of the Indians hanging in the barn for many years to prevent them from being stolen. The story may? end here, as Geez s 101 is the 3rd of those from the barn.
