Wilt Chamberlain ranks fifth ahead of Nowitzki with 31,419 points. The big German became the sixth player in NBA history to reach the 31,000-point plateau with a one-legged fadeaway jumper over Jerami Grant at the 7:57 mark of the second quarter against Oklahoma City on 2/28/18 (the basket gave him seven points for the game and exactly 31,000 for his career). Nowitzki, who was assisted by J.J. Barea on the play, joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292) and Chamberlain (31,419) as the only players in league history to reach 31,000 career points. Through 2/28/18, there had been 4,257 players who appeared in an NBA game and Nowitzki was one of only six with 31,000 points. Last season, Nowitzki became the sixth player in NBA history and the first international player to reach the 30,000-point mark with a 15-foot baseline jumper over Larry Nance Jr. at the 10:58 mark of the second quarter against the L.A. Lakers on 3/7/17 (the basket gave him 20 points for the game and exactly 30,000 for his career).
