AT THE BAR with Theo & Digger Once again for the 2016 season, local footy fans Theo and Digger return to give their views and opinions on BFL footy each week, from the comfort of the Sports Bar at the Ballarat Leagues Club! Theo: You re not wearing a black armband this week Dig? Digger: Why would I be mate? T: Thought you d have one on to mourn the death of the Lakers flag hopes. D: Now hang on just a minute. We lose one game to a good side on their home ground, with a bunch of good players out, and all of a sudden we can t win the flag? T: Just wanted to stir you a bit mate angry Digger hasn t been here for a while and I thought you needed firing up! D: I tell you what s firing me up mate. Here we are, sitting in the Sports Bar watching the BLC staff set up the Bistro for the league s Hall of Fame Dinner and our invite isn t here. T: Must have gotten lost in the mail mate, you know how slow Australia Post is these days! D: For everything we do for the league, and nothing T: To be fair, all you ve done this year is upset people and show your Lakers bias, there s probably a room full of people that want to hang one on your chin, so maybe it s best that you don t show your face too much! D: Yeah, yeah, whatever might have to call the league and make sure they ve got me I mean us on the Hendo invite list. T: Only three games this week mate, with five teams having the bye, so we ve got some extra padding, as the establishment called it, to do this week any idea why we ve got five teams sitting out? D: As a matter of fact, I do we had this exact same conversation at the exact same time last year!! T; And here I was thinking alcohol had eaten away at your brain cells! D: To put it into simple terms mate, you can t fit an 11-team competition into eighteen rounds evenly using the standard five games a week. With byes being inevitable given the nature of the competition, each team needs to have two byes per season and the only way to do it is to have weeks like this where a number of clubs sit it out, so that each team, come the end of Round 18, has played 16 games and a ladder can be sorted from there. T: Makes sense I think D: Couldn t make it too much easier mate. T: So let s have a look at this week s games then, starting with Sebastopol taking on Redan at the Marty Busch Reserve. D: And a couple of teams coming off comfortable wins last week the Burras tipped up Melton South massively, as did Redan against Darley. The heavy track at Marty Busch won t worry Redan all that much, as they faced similar when they took on the Burras at City Oval not that long ago, and whilst Sebas will be competitive, I can t see Redan losing this one as they hunt for third spot. T: Are Melton South a chance to beat Ballarat? D: They are a chance, but I don t think they will. We all know that South are a much better side on the postage stamp of a ground they call the Rec Reserve, but Ballarat have been pretty good of late, and I can t see them letting a winnable game like this slip. T: Last one for this week, can East Point upset North Ballarat City at Eureka Stadium. D: Short answer, no. Long answer, they ll throw everything but the kitchen sink at North knowing that Melton and Darley have byes today puts them two games behind with three to play, but North are a team in form at the moment, and one hunting down a top-two finish, so they ll get the job done this week. T: Short and sharp this week, and angry Digger made an appearance without slagging off anyone in club land surely that s a win-win day. D: You just watch yourself mate, you ve got plenty of skeletons in the closest that could get an airing if you don t straighten up and fly right. T: I m an open book mate, do your worst! D: So you don t want me to mention that time at the Eastern Oval where T: we might end things there for this week mate, look forward to chatting next week!! D: Ah, so proper little Theo has a dark side! T: You just sit here and watch the set-up crew set-up for an event that you obviously weren t invited to. D: That s cold 4 BFNL RECORD

ROUND 15 FOOTBALL PREVIEW by Shaun Kelly The bye round is upon us, which means that finals are just around the corner in the Red Onion Creative Ballarat Football Netball League. Five teams Melton, Darley, Bacchus Marsh, Sunbury and Lake Wendouree all down tools this weekend in the one shortened round that is needed to equalise the number of matches that teams play for the season, which gives us only three games being played this weekend so you may see a bit of a shortened preview as a result this week. So without any further ado, let s jump straight into it this week and look at the three games that will make up Round 15. SEBASTOPOL s last ten or so days have been amongst their best of the season, with coach Shane Snibson re-appointed for a third year in 2017 followed by their most impressive win in quite some time, holding Melton South to just two goals for the day in a 74 point victory, their third of the season and one that would have pleased Burra supporters no end. They ll find things a bit tougher today though, as they host REDAN at Marty Busch Reserve, with the Lions rebounding strongly last week to dispose of Darley at Darley Park by some 96 points to climb into fourth spot and indicate to the football world that their previous week against Darley may have been more of an aberration than the norm. Couple of key players to watch today Tyler O Sullivan-Kirchner has been in scintillating form for Sebastopol over the past couple of weeks, and will be looking forward to taking on the team with whom he played all of his junior footy. Having Toby Hutt and Michael Powell in form up forward frees up O Sullivan-Kirchner to play as more of a running player, which is a difficult match-up given that he has key position height. On the Redan side, Daniel Colbert has had another stand-out season, punctuated by a five-goal, best on ground performance against Darley last week, and with Brenton Riordan returning to the Lions side in recent weeks and Grant Bell also dangerous, Colbert could get a third defender if he spends time up forward, which is a dangerous prospect for anyone. PREDICTION: Will be hot early on, but REDAN will have enough to overpower the Burras down the stretch. MELTON SOUTH will be on the hunt for their first win of the season as they take on BALLARAT at the Rec Reserve today, with the Swans fresh after sitting out last weekend with a bye and the Panthers licking their wounds a bit after heading down the highway for a potentially winnable game against Sebastopol, but only managing to kick two goals for the day - one of which was in the first quarter in what ended up being a 74-point loss that would be up there with coach Mark Pedersen s most disappointing losses of the year. The Panthers will give themselves a real chance at home today against a Ballarat side that, on paper and in age, look very similar to them, but the comparisons stop there as the Swans have been more than competitive this season, and mathematically are still very much a finals chance, given that they sit just a game behind sixth-placed Darley at the moment, and could start to cause some heart palpitations should they win today and then knock over East Point next week and, if results go their way, potentially be sitting on the cusp of the top six with two games to go. Their percentage needs a power of work if they are to complete the fairytale, so there s no doubt that coach Ash Baker will be looking to establish a lead early and then keep pressing all day long which could be easier said than done at the Rec Reserve. PREDICTION: BALLARAT will win, but I m not sure it will be the percentage booster that they re looking for. NORTH BALLARAT CITY will be full of confidence today as they take on EAST POINT at Eureka Stadium, coming off the back of an extremely impressive 39 point victory over ladder leaders Lake Wendouree, whilst East Point couldn t reel in Bacchus Marsh after spotting them an early lead, and went down by 57 points. Thankfully for the Roos, it wasn t a terminal blow for their finals hopes with Darley and Melton both going down, they remain just a game outside of sixth spot, but with a superior percentage to both the Devils and Bloods. Still, with both of those teams having a bye today, a loss today could mean that East Point sit two games behind the Devils and Bloods at the conclusion of today, and whilst that may not be a completely terminal blow, it means that the Roos can t afford to put a foot wrong for the rest of the season should they want to play finals. Expect, then, for Glenn Wilkins boys to throw everything they have at the Northies today, although it won t be an easy task North showed last week that the mojo is still there and they can still kick bulk goals even without coach Jordyn Burke in the side, with Simon McCartin stepping up in a captain s performance last weekend to kick four goals and fill the breach, whilst Derick Micallef did Derick Micallef things with six goals of his own two players that Wilkins will be keen to stop today. PREDICTION: The road to the finals will get a bit tougher for the Roos after a NORTH BALLARAT CITY win today. 10 BFNL RECORD

ROUND 15 NETBALL PREVIEW by Shaun Kelly It may be a shortened round in the BGT A Grade netball competition this weekend, but that doesn t stop it from being one of the most important rounds of the 2016 season. Only six teams are in action this week, but five of those six teams have finals aspirations and two of the three games will go a long way towards shaping how the ladder will look at the conclusion of the home-andaway season. So let s jump straight into it, folks, and have a look at what s in store on netball courts across the Ballarat FNL this weekend. Huge game at Marty Busch Reserve today as SEBASTOPOL take on REDAN in what is very much a season-defining game for both teams, who are both in the mix to fill fifth and sixth spot on the ladder. Sebastopol put themselves in the box seat last weekend with a win over Melton South, powered by the Cann sisters in great form in goals, whilst Redan did themselves no favours by going down to Darley in what could be considered an upset, dropping the Lions out of the top six. Basically, the crux of this one is as follows if Sebastopol win this, they ll play finals, as it will put them two games clear of Redan with a bye next week, who have Lake Wendouree and Ballarat in the last two games. If Redan wins, Sebas are potentially in trouble, as they have Lakers and East Point in the last two rounds. Watching Redan in the second half last week showed me that they still have some work to do, although Tasha Dack was a welcome addition back into the side and whilst she only played the final quarter, she ll be better for the run, plus Ruby Parry is expected back in the country this week, which could free up Emma Henry to play in defence, which is what she may need to do to curb the influence of Georgia and Adrianna Cann under the Burras goal ring, who have been in great form over the last couple of weeks. Huge game, with a huge prize on the line for the winner. PREDICTION: SEBASTOPOL will punch their finals ticket with a win today, meaning that Redan have a huge final few weeks ahead of them MELTON SOUTH host BALLARAT at the Melton Rec Reserve this weekend, with the Panthers coming off a loss to Sebastopol last week, whilst the Swans sat back and watched proceedings from afar with the bye. In a year when percentage could potentially be a major factor between a side playing finals or starting their 2017 pre-season a week early, there s no doubt that Leesa Battistello will be instructing her girls to play whistle to whistle today, as whilst the percentage difference between the Swans, Sebastopol and Redan is negligible at the moment, games against the Panthers and Bacchus Marsh before season s end give Ballarat a great chance to get the advantage on the percentage side of things over those other two sides in the mix for a finals spot, which could give the Swans a huge advantage, and with the form that Kelly Moran has been in of recent times in goals for the Swans, they have a great piece of the puzzle to help them over the line. PREDICTION: BALLARAT to get the job done, and get that percentage boost as well And that s all we have for this week.oh, except for a game between a couple of sides that might be going okay this year up at Eureka Stadium, as NORTH BALLARAT CITY hosts EAST POINT in what quite easily could be the game of the season to date, although it will go a long way to top the draw that these two sides played out back in Round 1. Both teams didn t quite have things all their own way last week, especially North City, who defeated Lake Wendouree but had to earn it, with scores tied at three-quarter time before goaler Jordyn Bibby stepped up big with a 13 goal final quarter to help her team keep their undefeated streak, aided by teammate Sarah Milton in defence who put together a Stockland Wendouree Player of the Week performance. East Point got over Bacchus Marsh 40-25, but that margin was a lot closer than many would have thought. There s so many good match-ups in this game to look forward to Kate McLeod standing Bibby under the North City goals, Regional VNL teammates Lauren Atkinson and Stacey McCartin going head-to-head in the midcourt, Milton and Emma Church taking on Lauren Jew and Emma Farrell under the North goals all over the court, there s marquee match-ups to watch. These two teams basically know that they ll be seeing each other again in four weeks time in a Qualifying Final, so there could be a couple of tricks that coaches Annie McCartin and Sascha Veldhuis might keep up their respective sleeves, with the winner of this game likely to end up crowned the minor premiers at season s end. PREDICTION: Sorry Annie, but I just think EAST POINT are a bit more even at the moment and will get the win today stand to be corrected though!! 12 BFNL RECORD

A MESSAGE FROM WORKSAFE AFL VICTORIA COUNTRY VICTORIA NAMES 2016 AFL NATIONAL INCLUSION CARNIVAL BIG-V SQUAD Victoria is ready to stamp its authority on the 2016 AFL National Inclusion Carnival next month, following the announcement of its Vic Country and Vic Metro representative squads. Thirty-six of Victoria s best all abilities players, including four emergencies have been chosen to don the Big-V jumper as they prepare to take on the top talent from across the country. The final 16-man squads for Vic Country and Vic Metro boast players from across all corners of the state, including representatives from nine different regional clubs and 10 metropolitan teams. Wodonga and Wangaratta share the most representatives in the Vic Country side with three players, followed by Ballarat, Gippsland, Hampden, Hamilton and Wimmera with two selections each, while Echuca and Grampians have one. The 2016 AFL National Inclusion Carnival brings together footballers with an intellectual disability from across the country to take part in a round-robin carnival pitting themselves against the best from four other states including NSW/ACT, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania. Held from August 9-14, the six-day event will be played at VFL venues across Melbourne, including Richmond s Punt Rd Oval, Whitten Oval and North Port Oval. Vic Metro will be led by Williamstown Seagulls FIDA coach Rob Klemm who will be keen to lead his team to back-to-back victories after defeating NSW/ACT by 10-points to clinch the 2015 title. Wodonga Jets coach Matt Deegan has been selected at the helm of the Vic Country team who is ready to regain state bragging rights after tasting victory in AFL Victoria FIDA Football & AAA Programs Manager, Logan Whitaker said the two teams are looking forward to representing their states. Pulling on the Big-V jumpers is a dream a lot of Victorian footballers have but never get the chance to experience, so it s safe to say both our all-abilities teams are excited to get out on the park and make their dreams a reality, Whitaker said. Things like this where players get to come out and socialize and be with a group of mates and actually be part of an event like this means a hell of a lot to them and you can see the smiles on their faces when they re out there kicking the footy, they just love it. 18 SEBASTOPOL REDAN LIONS ROAR FOOTBALL REPORT Welcome back everyone to Marty Busch Reserve and to the Redan FNC. Last week we saw a triumphal win to both our Senior and Reserve footballers, and congratulate them all on what was convincing wins to both sides in extremely heavy conditions. It was a great day all round with our dual game and sponsors day luncheon, hence a packed house in the rooms to sing the burra theme song after the match. Well done to everyone who contributed to hosting the big day out, and to Shane Snibson, Brett Goodes and Georgia Cann for their informative and well presented talk to our sponsor guests on the current and future movement of our senior football and netball departments. Today we hope to put up a real fight and for some more success on the scoreboard. Our last meet with Redan was although not demonstrated on the scoreboard, a good hard fought battle for both contenders. Good luck to our footballers and netballers. We look forward to some hard contests. Next week gives us a senior bye, hence a valuable chance to refresh any injury niggles and an energy boost prior to the last two rounds for 2016, where we meet Lakers and the Easties. We acknowledge all our club sponsors for 2016 which also include Lake Health Services, Lawler Bricklaying, Mesh & Masonry Supplies Pty Ltd and the Parker Family. Our juniors travel to the Lakers tomorrow so enjoy your day out. Thank you to our junior committee who are working in overdrive to set plans in place for 2017 both in football and netball. We thank those who attended the junior meeting held last Wednesday in support of this extremely vital sector of your footy club. Go Burra! SENIOR NETBALL REPORT Last Saturday saw milestone games, muddy carparks, cake stalls, junior and senior matches side by side, a messy clubroom, fluctuating weather and some competitive netball. Thanks to Michelle Snowden, Sharon Doonan and Lorraine Brady for your work behind the scenes in helping Sarah, Lauren and Gabi celebrate their milestones. Michelle also puts her photography skills to work when required and the club is much appreciative of this. The 19 s continue to improve each week while the A Grade team are to be commended on their percentage boosting win. Across the grades some of the players to shine were Breeley, Ali, Gabi, Ash, Bec, Rebecca, Flip, Alana, Bianca, Georgia and Nikki. Off the court, thanks to Sarah Kelly, Stuart Snowden, Bugsy Jones and all coaches for your weekly efforts in supporting our teams. This week s matches against Redan provide all teams with the opportunity to again perform well.and don t forget, as Guru Bob would say Whichever team has less turnovers and throws more goals than the opposition usually comes out on top think about that. A bright cold crisp clear morning as we headed down the highway to Darley that by the Senior game had closed in a was raining. Great start for the day with the U18 s turning it on booting 18 goals & almost as many points. 10 players contributing to the tally. Reserves had a 2 goal break at the first change & steadily built on it throughout the remainder of the game being 68 point winners. Matt Colbert in his 2nd game back for the season being best on ground. What a difference a week made for the Senior team coming of a 34 point loss to Sunbury last week they turned the tables this week with a 16 goal win. Dan Colbert not to be out done by his brother also claimed best on ground but also added 5 goals. This week s game will a different story again with the Sebas playing surface a vast contrast to Darley s. The girls had a great day on the court with nearly a clean sweep all grades posting wins except the A Grade girls. C & D Grade winning their games by 1 goal & the A Grade girls only going down by 2. 21 MELTON SOUTH PANTHER PRESS BALLARAT SWAN S CHATTER Today we welcome Ballarat to the Panther Den. Let s hope we have some competitive games of footy and netball and enjoy a beer after the game. Good luck to all teams! Football- Unfortunately the senior boys went down again to Sebas. With a lot of injuries and unavailability to the side it was a new look line-up. In he mud the boys tried hard but could not get the result. Best player was the captain Whitey. The reserves were up against it from the start with the senior s injuries, ect, the boys could only play with 16 players. To their credit they played hard and enjoyed rolling around in the mud. Thanks to the boys that filled in and played. The unders kept their finals hopes alive with a 13 point win. If we win the remainder of games and results go our way who knows, we could scrape in. Keep working hard boys and give yourself this opportunity. Netball- Great day at the netball with four teams having a win. Unfortunately the A grade were the team to be beat. The coaching staff must be wrapped with the results and improvement shown by the girls. Keep on working hard girls and the results will keep coming! Social- Tonight we have our Hypnotist Comedy Night. Limited tickets are available. Show is $35 and is at 7:30 at the Country Club. Come and enjoy and have a laugh. Next Saturday we have our Under 18 Premiership Reunion. Anyone involved with the team that year is more than welcome to attend the afternoon. For more info please see The Bruv (Scotty Carlin). And our last game of the year, against Darley, we have our past players day. This is something we want as a club to flourish in the coming years. So please if you know anyone that has played with our great club let them know or check out the Facebook page. The more old-timers we get back the better the day! For any information see Danny Martyn. Volunteers of the week- This week we want to say a big thanks to out committee members. Without this group of people we wouldn t have a club. Thanks for your time and efforts! Sponsors of the week- R&D Signs: For all your sign writing needs give Ray a call. He will help you out with all your needs! Thanks Ray for your ongoing support! Reading Cinemas: Thanks for all your support this year and previous years. Call in and see your new favourite movies! Until next week, The Prowling Panther #PantherPride The bye has passed and the Active Electrical Ballarat Swans now look forward to finishing the last four Home and Away games in a positive and hopefully productive manner. Prior to the bye the Ballarat Swans enjoyed a successful day at home and should give all netball and football teams confidence going into today s road trip to the Melton South FNC. Doesn t matter where the two clubs are positioned on the ladder both clubs always produce a hard fought out contest. The netball competition is at an interesting stage for the Ballarat Swans A Grade who currently sit 6th and need to string some wins together to consolidate a higher place on the ladder. The B, C D grade teams and the 19 s all hold higher positions but have tough assignments today and need to win to consolidate their respective positions on the ladder. Around the Club: Congratulations to Damian Larkin who celebrates his 100th senior game today. Damian commenced with the Ballarat Swans in the U/12 s back in 1996 until Damian returned to the Swans in 2012 and has been a great servant to the Ballarat Swans. Well done Damian. Special congratulations to Paul Nicholls on his Induction to the Ballarat Football Netball League 2016 Hall of Fame held last Wednesday at a Gala Presentation at the Ballarat Leagues Club. Family, Friends and passed players helped Paul to celebrate his induction. Paul played all his junior games with the Ballarat Swans and holds the club record of 248 senior games and 86 goals played from (which included 3 seasons with West Adelaide in the SANFL). He was Club Best and Fairest (Col. Greenfield Trophy) 1992 & Senior Coach in 2000 and Junior coach U/12, U/14 and U/16. Represented the BFNL and was Captain on 3 occasions. He received Life Membership in Social Calendar: Golden Circle Draw Sunday, 7 August Please get those tickets in as soon as possible. After the game today we return to the Park Hotel for the match day awards and enjoy the hospitality of Jason and his staff. Good luck to all teams today. GO SWANS 40 BFNL RECORD

NORTH BALLARAT CITY EAST POINT KANGAS CORNER Welcome today to Eureka Stadium where we will recognise the White Ribbon campaign in our games today against East Point. With the support of White Ribbon Australia we want all women to live in safety, free from all forms of men s violence and our senior football jumpers have been designed with their vision in mind. Today, Simone O Brien will toss the coin before the start of the senior game. Simone is herself a victim of domestic violence who sustained horrific injuries from her partner and who has fought through to become an ambassador for the White Ribbon organisation. Simone has come to us from Horsham today and we thank her very much for her time and her participation with us today. We also welcome our other White Ribbon ambassadors who are taking part in today s game, please show your support and purchase one of our White Ribbon wristbands when you see them available at the game today. Last week our senior side had a fantastic win against Lake Wendouree, it was a game that they did not expect us to win but the boys played some great football to maintain their lead throughout the game. Clay Jenkins played well keeping Nick Peters quiet from the Lakers and Derick Micallef showed some great kicking skills with six goals scored. It was a great game in the reserves, so close with only six points between the two. With North City leading in the first half it looked like they could come away with their maiden victory but alas, it wasn t to be. A great game from the U/18.5 s who showed some terrific skills and played so well as a team to come away with the win. Coach Jamie Lamb is doing a great job this year with these boys. Flynn Appleby returned to the team with a best on ground performance. With only four rounds to go it is getting close to the pointy end of the season. Our senior team s presentation night for both football and netball will be on Friday the 23rd of September, so make sure you have that date in your diary, further details will come as we get closer to the date. Good luck to all teams competing today and don t forget to support our White Ribbon initiative. Go North. Football: Last week down the road at Bacchus Marsh we came away 2 wins out of 3 grades. The Under 18 s and Reserves battled hard in the difficult windy conditions and held on to record good wins. Let s hope their winning form continues today with both sides building well for finals. The Seniors had a disappointing loss and will be out today to turn things around and get back on the winners list. All the best to all teams, GO ROOS. Netball: Last week at the Marsh saw us come away with 5 solid wins, which keep all sides finals hopes alive and is hopefully the confidence boost needed to take on a challenging round 15 against North Ballarat City today. Best players against Bacchus Marsh were: A grade-beth Smith, Marcelle Geljon and Emma Farrell. B grade-rachael Wilson, Taylor Banham, Bree Whittaker and Rhiannon Whitson. C grade-jess Chapman, Liz Carson and Zoe Trembath. D grade-kylea Wilson, Jenna Davidson and Kelsie Stewart. 19/Under-Courtney McCrow, Keeley Haseloff, Meg Taylor and Holly Medwell. 29 NETBALL REPORT By AFL Goldfields Netball Manager Kim Bailey This week, sports commentator Kelli Underwood took an interesting look in to how Netball Australia is fighting back against the rise of women s sport in other codes. The rise of these codes may eat into netball participant rates, but hopeful not. Who knows we might gain more numbers by women becoming further involved in other sports. Enjoy this quirky article by Kelli. While the sport has always been popular, the rapid growth of other codes means netball is suddenly under threat. The new AFL women s league has plenty of momentum, the Big Bash was the success story of summer and women s soccer is going from strength-to-strength. So netball has been forced to make a decision. Attack or defend? Netball Australia chose to attack and for that, I applaud them. The move to ditch the Kiwis in favour of the AFL and NRL in a new look eight team competition is a smart choice. The five existing Australian teams, plus three new franchises, Collingwood, the GWS Giants and the Melbourne Storm will bring netball to a wider sporting audience. It s a risky but necessary transformation. If netball wants to sit at the big table with Australian sports movers and shakers, then it must attract bigger audiences. Attendance figures are solid but the challenge lies with television ratings. Put simply, the sport needs more viewers of the male variety and more specifically, AFL and NRL fans. To capture this market, netball needs to be bold. For too long it s been squeaky clean with a tendency to be paranoid about receiving negative coverage. But now it s time to add some spice talk up some rivalries, hurl a few insults, embrace the occasional controversy. Most importantly, make people sit up and take notice by selling the game and its personalities. It s time for the best players in the country to become household names. So with the AFL and NRL joining forces with netball, here s a starting point for those diehard footy fans netball is trying to attract. NETBALL v AFL/NRL Laura Geitz = Cameron Smith Away from the playing field, butter wouldn t melt in their mouths. Smith has been dubbed the accountant because he doesn t look like a league player. While Geitz is the quintessential country girl who looks like she s just stepped off the family farm. But blow the whistle and they transform into the best leaders in the country. They re not the biggest or the fastest, but they are the smartest. They have the ability to read the game like no-one else. And when the contest is on the line, they will always find a way to win. Sharni Layton = Shane Mumford (GWS Giants) Firstly, you will hear them coming from a mile off. They love a camera and they love a contest. They strut, they point, they yap, they prowl, they intimidate. But most importantly, when the ball is there to be won, they will go through opponents like a steam train. Kim Green = Cooper Cronk The ultimate example of the modern day athlete. Their careers have been built on hard work and toughness. Cronk played Origin 1 with an ankle so badly twisted it was black and blue, while Green is currently playing with a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament. They look like friendly puppies, but they play like bulldogs. Gretel Tippett = Lance Buddy Franklin OK, OK, I ve gone a bit early here... big brother Kurt has probably just choked on his weet-bix. There is only ONE Buddy. But Tippett reminds me of a young Franklin. Raw, explosive, athletic, freakish and flashy. Gretel is still maturing, but like Buddy she possesses a skill set we ve never seen in the game. Some great games over last weekend with Sebastopol moving back into the top six. A loss by Redan to a very good Darley side saw them slip out. The game of the round was between North Ballarat and Lake Wendouree. In a see sawing game the lead changed several times throughout the game, but the last quarter saw the defending champions flexing their muscles and getting a slender three goal victory. This loss sees Lakers slip to forth whilst Sunbury s win over Melton slots them into the all-important third position. This weekend is the bye weekend for most teams but there sure is some great games. If Redan can get over Sebastopol, they could sneak back into the top six. However, the match of the round will be between the two undefeated teams East Point and North Ballarat City. It was a ripper of a game that ended in a draw in round one and I can t wait for these two awesome teams go head to head in the battle for top spot. Good luck to all teams. Happy Netballing. 56 BFNL RECORD
