Six conference wins. The magic number was six last Sunday as No. 16 Delaware topped Hofstra, 6-0, at Fred P. Rullo Stadium on Senior Day. With the win, the Hens finished regular season play with a 12-6 record overall while registering its third straight year with a 6-0 mark in conference play. Greta Nauck finished the day with her fifth career hat trick to go along with two assists for a total of eight points. Sydney Rhodes split time in the cage with Lizzie Gaebel and Becca Harbert for the team s fifth shutout of the season. The reigning five-time Champion Blue Hens have reached the CAA Tournament for the eighth straight season and ninth time in 10 years. Delaware is 16-5 all-time in the CAA Tournament and 8-2 in semifinals action. UD has the best winning percentage (.762) in the CAA Tournament amongst all active league schools. The Hens have won 24 straight CAA regular season and tournament contests. For the second straight season, Delaware earned CAA Field Hockey Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades as Lotte de Koning collected the league s top honor while Tessa Verweijen was the top freshman. The Blue Hens garnered CAA Player of the Year for the third straight year (Greta Nauck; 2016, 2017) while picking up the Rookie of the Year in backto-back seasons (Lotte de Koning; 2017). Lotte de Koning is just the second Delaware player to be named both the Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year during her career (Esmée Peet; 2013). She is also the first player to collect CAA Player of the Year honors the season after winning CAA Rookie of the Year since Old Dominion s Marina DiGiacomo did so in Lotte de Koning was joined on the All-CAA First Team by Lisa Giezeman, Greta Nauck and Sydney Rhodes. Second Team honors went to Emily Kresho and Tessa Verweijen while Verweijen also garnered All-Rookie Team accolades. Earlier this week, UD swept the CAA field hockey awards for the third time this season as Greta Nauck earned the title of Player of the Week and Lizzie Gaebel took home Rookie of the Week honors. Delaware s senior class of Kiki Bink, MaryCate Butler, Lisa Giezeman, Greta Nauck, Sydney Rhodes and Michaela Scanlon has logged 66 victories thus far during their four-year career together. Greta Nauck is tied for fifth in CAA history with 78 career goals and is sixth all-time with 187 career points. SERIES: The Blue Hens are all-time against JMU, including a 4-1 mark in CAA postseason play. Delaware has won five straight and eight of the last nine against the Dukes. Earlier this season, the No. 20 Hens topped James Madison, 6-3, behind goals from six different players in Harrisonburg. COAT/TOY DRIVE: In conjunction with the CAA and fellow members, the UD Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting toys and new/gently used winter coats on-site at all fall championships. The collected items will benefit the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club. SAAC representatives will be on hand during the CAA Championship weekend at Fred P. Rullo Stadium to collect donations. Additionally, donation boxes are available in the Bob Carpenter Center, Delaware Field House and Carpenter Sports Building.
