President s Annual Report Implementing the Zone bowl s programme over a twelve month period is a challenging task and it requires a very dedicated team of sub committees and volunteers to ensure things run smoothly and on time. We are extremely fortunate to have such a team of professional workers in place and I extend my personal thanks and appreciation to my fellow members of the Zone Executive, State Councillor, Club Delegates, Selectors, Umpires, Coaches and in particular to Reg Richardson and the Match Committee who are the heart and life-blood of our Zone s competition play. President Kevin congratulates John Roberts and Graeme Mayer of Ettalong on their Champion of Champions Pairs win over Dick Love and Brett Pritchard The Pennant and Mid Week Triples competition and Zone championship titles where once again well supported and I congratulate all the respective winners. Whilst a State flag eluded our Open, Senior and Junior Representative sides this year they were all extremely competitive in their respective Inter-Zone Championships and they where considered the sides to beat. Two new bowling days were added to this year s calendar of events. They were the Creightons over 70 North v South Challenge and a Delegate s Day in appreciation of their contribution to the running of the Zone. Both days were most successful and are sure to grow in stature over coming years. From an administration perspective, Zone 15 became pro-active in terms of seeking to assist Clubs to reverse declining membership trends. A Recruiting and Retention programme was initiated through two Club Think Tank Seminars and a main media campaign was conducted on NBN television and FM radio. DVD s were produced for clubs to run on their in-house screens to encourage non bowling social members to take-up the game. A car window/bumper sticker featuring the cheeky line Grab Life by the Bowls was made available to Clubs to help talk up the game. All these initiatives were undertaken under the marketing banner of BOWLS Central Coast, with the full support of both the men s and women s associations at Zone and at State level. These have been exciting initiatives and they have certainly heightened the awareness of lawn bowls in the general community and provide a sound basis upon which to build. Page 13 Page 2

Thanks to our Web Site Manager and Vice President Doug Rose, the Zone web site has become a key communication source for all general information, coming events, photo gallery, links to other key bowls sites and in particular, pennant and championship results. We have been a frontrunner in this electronic age and Secretary Ed Radford has worked hard with clubs to embrace electronic mail. The age of posting letters and faxes has all but passed us by. The forty page monthly bowls magazine Coast BOWLS NEWS continues to provide Clubs with an important avenue to promote up and coming tournaments, special events/days and report upon what has been happening at club level. In these tight economic and competitive times Clubs are competing for that discretionary leisure dollar and many of them could be more pro-active in promoting their facilities and bowls programmes. Coast BOWLS NEWS has an important role to play and is under utilised in this regard. To Canterbury and the Bay Sports Club, the home of Bateau Bowling Club, we extend our appreciation for their ongoing sponsorship support of bowls on the Central Coast. They are a very professional and community minded Club and their hosting of this year s Pennant Finals was an outstanding success. To all those other clubs that hosted Zone championship events including the finals at Ettalong Memorial, Halekulani, The Greens The Entrance a big thank you for your ongoing support. It was a much improved Zone 15 performance in the BCiB State Pennant final series with Halekulani reaching the final of Grade 1 against Cabramatta and Doyalson Wyee in a fairy tale performance to reach the Grade 6 final against Glen Innes. Unfortunately, both Clubs had to settle for the runner-up flag, but do not under estimate their outstanding performance in coming second in the State. The Greens The Entrance also excelled in reaching the Grade 5 semi-final, only going down by five shots to a well performed Armidale Ex Services side Kevin Dring - President SECRETARY S ANNUAL REPORT This past year has been a time of constant improvement and challenging new projects for our zone. It seems only like yesterday that I reported to you the advances in our electronic communications. Well that has been massaged into a comprehensive electronic mailing system for Bowls Central Coast, with one or two who have been slow to embrace the medium but are still receiving reports and information electronically. The Royal New South Wales Bowling Association is now seeking a register of all clubs with online capacity to enhance distribution of information in the same way. Following the Survey conducted in 2008 and the results forwarded to State Match Committee, we have been assured our concerns will be tabled when formulating the new Conditions of Play. (21metre and Mat Rules included). The Zone Survey was a major undertaking and received a very good response from clubs.. Page 3 Page 12

Secretary Ed Radford poses with the President s Reserve Singles Finalists Nathan Malloy and Peter Borham as President Kevin takes a photo for Coast Bowls News I reported last year on the involvement of the CCAS with our Junior and Under 25 groups. Significant funding was committed and senior coaches were appointed. A programme put in place and squads selected, however our expectations were not reached in this relationship, with the disciplines expected of players set to high for most of them. I take this opportunity to thank the Zone Coaches selected, John Roberts, Tom Hobbs, Dick Thornton, Miro Perovic and Norma Barry for their contribution. Another major initiative was the Main Media Advertising Campaign. This will be fully reported in another place, however the Zone contributed the original $5000 funding to make start up possible. We were very encouraged to have our Central Coast Ladies come on board as partners and we received support from both State bodies. President Kevin used his considerable marketing experience to drive the effort. Representative Games and Trials have been a feature of the years programme and the selectors have worked overtime to select and give some newer players their opportunity alongside the more seasoned players. It is a fact that the programme is so full that almost all week ends are committed. I thank Ray Vetter Chairman of Selectors for his cooperation and attention to the task. The zone is addressing the difficulties facing our younger bowlers, after recent experiences, and we have put in place a manager to care for those out of the junior ranks for next season. This will include a return to an emerging squad if support warrants the effort. I record a special mention of thanks to John O Connell for his efforts over the years with our Zone Juniors and to Secretary Lorraine Barter who has given great support. A number of Special Days for specific groups were conducted including The Creighton s Shield, Veterans and Super Veterans Days and Delegates Day. The Commonwealth Sports Encouragement Awards were conducted at three venues in the zone where deserving recipients received Certificates from their local Federal Members on behalf of the Government. Our thanks to the Host Clubs Doyalson Wyee RSL, The Greens The Entrance and Ettalong Memorial, and also to State Councillor John Peek for facilitating these important events. As a zone we continue to make important advances for the benefit of members one of which is the Website. Our website has a host of information and results thanks to Doug Rose. The Match Committee is preparing to receive match results sheets by , more on that later. Page 11 Page 4

A sub committee has been formed to review and update the CCDBA Constitution and has had three working meetings so far. This will be a deliberate update and the final draft will be presented to the Management Committee for approval. Clubs are still invited to submit suggestions. There is talk of a generic constitution backed by government approval. An important addition to our ranks is Publicity Officer Paul Callaghan, a well known and respected professional journalist, and Geoff Graham who is involved in the Website and assisting in Match Committee matters. These appointments will give us the much needed back up in important areas. We also joined the Australian Sports Foundation Central Coast Section. Once again we offer clubs who do not hold Presidents or Members Days each year the opportunity to nominate award winners who can be recognised at the Zone Presentation Day in December. The Executive have agreed to offer 5 year and 10 year bars to hard working members who may have already received a merit badge p. Together with the new name bar we have made these merit awards more significant. This has been a year of innovation and modernising our structure but the heart is our bowling members and that must always be uppermost in our thinking. I congratulate all Championship and Pennant Winners whose results are reported in other sections and especially the fine performance of Halekulani and Doyalson Wyee RSL State Pennant Runner Ups. Ed Radford - Secretary STATE COUNCILLOR S ANNUAL REPORT Another eventful and successful year in the Bowls World. Zone 15 continues to be one of the leading Zones in the State and I am most proud when attending Royal NSW Bowling Association Board Meetings when our Zone is looked to as the Bench-Mark and one with many innovative ideas not only in the promotion of lawn bowls but also the conducting of major bowls events. The television commercial and Grab Life By The Bowls marketing campaign devised by Zone President Kevin Dring and the Recruitment Seminars conducted by Vice President Doug Rose were observed closely by all other Zones in the State, with many taking our lead and conducting similar programs. The highlight of the year in regard to State Events was the 2009 BCiB State Grade 5 Pennant Finals held at Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club. RNSWBA State Treasurer Ken Guy, who was present, said that this Pennant Final Series was the best he had attended in his many years in Bowls Administration. Ettalong s John Roberts, Reg Richardson and their team of Club Volunteers should take a bow after this compliment. On the 8 th August we played for the Pat Geary Shield at Halekulani against Zones 2, 6, & 14, finishing 2 nd to Zone 2 who we defeated in our match, but we had to win by around 50 shots. Overall a great year Season looks promising with a great deal of young players coming up through the ranks. On closing I would like to thank the Executive for their support. To Albert Heath & Wendy for making our task a lot easier, when we travel away, with our meals & accommodation. Thank you. To my fellow Selectors; Peter Taylor, John Kent, Alan Pollock, & Alan Johnson. Thank you for your input and meeting attendances. You are all standing for Season 2010, and I wish you all the success. Ray Vetter - Chairman Page 10 Page 5

Juniors ANNUAL REPORT Let me start by saying that the Zone 15 Junior Membership has declined from 48 Juniors in 2006 to 27 in 2009, this seems to be a trend across the state for what reason I don t know. To date there has been one Inter-Zone game against Newcastle Juniors where they proved to strong in the second game. There is a Inter-Zone game against The Hunter Dist on Saturday 29 th August 09, and 2 more against Zone 5 & Zone 10 later this year. The 2009 CCDB/Zone 15 Junior Championships have been completed and the winners were, Singles: Matt Holbrook: Pairs: Harley McDonald & Rhys Holbrook: and the Fours: Talia Guise- Josh Beddow- Harley McDonald & Ben Bourne. The Above Championship Winners went on to contest the State Junior Championships at Warilla Bowling Club in July; Zone 15 played their hearts out unfortunately the opposition was just to strong. The State 7-A Side will be played on the 15 th & 16 th of August at Wollongong RSL Bowling Club, and the following juniors have been selected Nathan Malloy Harley McDonald Kyle Fittler -Talia Guise - John Hannan Matt Holbrook Dalton Wilson. Congratulations must go to Nathan Malloy from Ettalong for winning the District President Reserve Singles a great effort. On finishing I would like to thank The Greens The Entrance Bowling Club for their support & Sponsorship for the past 2 years. To all those who assisted with marking for the Championships and a big thanks to Lorraine Barter & Dave McDonald for their support. John O Connell - Manager Junior Bowls. Selectors Annual Report Zone 15 has had a fairly good year, with mixed success. On the 23 rd March our Seniors played Zone 2. Our A side went down 103 to 133, and our B side won 146 to 106. A great result. On the 3 rd May Zone 15 Reserve Side played Zone 2 at Wallsend. Our Blue Side had a draw 76 to 76. Our Red Side had a draw 72 to 72. A remarkable game. On the 20 th May our Zone 15 Seniors Side went to Asquith to play Zone 9. Results were Zone to Rinks to 3.5. Good result. Best performed rink was Dave Arnoult, Tony Swaine, Alan Breakwell & Lindsay Willding. On the 6 th July our Seniors Side travelled to Sawtell to defend our State Title, we had held for the past 2 years. However we were beaten in the Semi Final by Zone 16 the eventual winners. My congratulations go to Halekulani on winning a State Grade 1 Runner-Up Pennant Flag and to Doyalson/Wyee (a club with just over 30 bowlers) winning the State Grade 6 Runner-Up Pennant Flag. Also to those who made State Sides, Aron Sherriff, Phil Flippence, Alan Breakwell, Lindsay Adamson, Richard Thornton and John Roberts well done. Looking ahead, I see Zone 15 continuing to succeed, having top administrators not just at Zone level, but many Clubs within the Zone leaders in their field. John Peek State Councillor MATCH COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2009 Pennant State Finals Congratulations to all Zone winners and well done Doyalson RSL and Halekulani for reaching the finals in their respective grades. Adamson (Ettalong) R/U P. Taylor, W. Cook (Toukley Dist) COACHES ANNUAL REPORT The Coaches this year have had an upheaval in so far as to the requirements for accreditation and re-accreditation. In some respects there are vast differences as to the previous requirements. In others, there is no differences. The fact is, no one likes change. But having seen the new process as presented to aspiring coaches, I think that just maybe we do not have too much to worry about except in the application thereto. In the accreditation process, aspiring coaches will have to do within 16 to 24 hours what they would be taught over a period of 4 to 5 weeks. Interesting - isn't it. Further, the process is gender neutral - that is both sexes will be taught together and examined together. The Umpires Panel has had a busy year with the re-accrediting and training of new Umpires for the various clubs within Zone 15. There are currently only 4 active Level 2 umpires that are able to carry out this process and we are actively trying to recruit extra persons to become Level 2 Umpires and lesson the workload, with a special thank you to Sid Smith for his efforts. Number of accredited Umpires and Measurers at your Club are shown at right.: In total we have had 34 new umpires accredited at 10 Clubs and 38 reaccreditations at 18 Clubs to-date. The standard that these people have shown at accreditation and reaccreditation has been very high. There have been 15 retirements due to Ill health, Bereavement and no longer interested. Bowls Australia has introduced a new examination paper and this has been well received by those who have completed the examination. Tony Hegyi Umpires Panel Delegate Zone 15 Umpires ANNUAL REPORT I have great pleasure in announcing that this zone now has 10 new coaches Umpires on duty at the accredited under the new system.
