Donato s Crimson teams are in ECAC play in February, 1-0 in March regular-season games and 12-5 in league tournament action. Harvard is unbeaten (8-0-2) in its last 10 regular-season league contests occurring later than Feb. 1. Poised for a Turnaround The Crimson is looking to replicate last season s finish, when a strong performance at Dartmouth began an stretch run. The Crimson had entered that stretch on a nine-game winless streak (0-7-2) spanning the New Year (Dec. 4-Jan. 12). Harvard went on to come within a goal of a Beanpot title, finish third in the league regularseason standings, reach the final of the Bank of America ECAC Hockey Championship and narrowly miss an NCAA at-large bid. Consistent Scoring The Crimson has scored at least one goal in each of its last 11 periods of play. Power Surge Harvard s four power-play goals at Dartmouth equaled its total in the previous 11 games. The Crimson added a goal on the power play against Union and two against Boston University. The seven power-play goals in three games match the Crimson s total from the previous 13 contests. Difference Maker Doug Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) scored his first three goals Jan. 25 at Dartmouth and added another against Union. He had an assist in each game and another against BU. Last year at Dartmouth, he broke a streak of 11 games without a goal. Rogers went on to total nine goals and four assists in the final 11 regular-season games. He added two goals and five helpers in five playoff games. Who s Hot? Alex Biega and Doug Rogers have totaled 12points in the last three games. Biega has six assists in the last four games and totals of in the last nine. Rogers has four goals and six assists for nine points in the last eight games. Jan. 10 at Bright Hockey Center Yale scored three goals in the first half of the opening period on the way to a 6-2 win against the Crimson in the rivals first meeting of Jimmy Fraser (Port Huron, Mich.) scored two goals in the loss, Harvard s first in an ECAC Hockey home game in nearly a year. The win was just Yale s third in 34 all-time games (3-28-3) at Bright Hockey Center. Brian O Neill netted a pair of goals for the Bulldogs, opening the scoring at 1:47 of the first period. Nov. 28, 2007 at Ingalls Rink Michael Biega scored the first three goals of his career, but Yale answered each with a goal of its own to tie the Crimson, 3-3, in the teams last meeting at Ingalls Rink. Biega s third goal gave Harvard a 3-2 lead with less than five minutes to play, but Denny Kearney scored a 6-on-5 goal at 18:51 of the third, after Yale had pulled its goalie in favor of an extra skater. Nick Coskren (Walpole, Mass.) registered two assists for the Crimson. Harvard vs. Yale Series History Harvard s series with Brown is its oldest, but the 109-year-old rivalry with Yale is its mostcontested. Harvard leads the all-time series, Only 11 sets of rivals have played more games against each other than the Crimson and Bulldogs. The teams first met Feb. 26, 1900, a 5-4 Elis win in New York City. In 1913, six weeks after voting to make hockey a major sport, the Harvard Athletic Committee voted to award a varsity letter to any Harvard player who had ever competed against Yale. The Bulldogs swept the two regular season matchups, but Harvard swept a first-round playoff series that season and is in the teams last five meetings. Inspiration for Innovation The Harvard-Yale rivalry was the impetus for one of the great innovations in hockey history. In their March 7, 1923 game against Yale, Harvard head coach William H. Claflin 15 and captain George Owen 23 implemented the practice of changing entire forward lines. The tactic, which became known as the line change, helped the Crimson defeat the Bulldogs, 2-1, in overtime.

The team is led in goals and points by the trio of Sean Backman ( ), Broc Little ( ) and Mark Arcobello ( ). Senior Alec Richards has had his best season in net, posting a.906 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average. A Challenging Road The Bulldogs are Harvard s third nationally ranked opponent in four games. Four of the Crimson s seven post-yale opponents are also ranked. There for the Taking In its final seven league games, sixth-place Harvard faces six of the other seven teams in the top eight of the ECAC Hockey standings. Magic Number Harvard is when scoring three or more goals and when netting two or fewer. The Crimson is when allowing fewer than three goals and when giving up three or more.
