Special thanks to Mary Lynn and her crew for all their efforts in organizing this. Please see the CCHA President s letter below: May 21, 2014 TO: CCHA Membership FROM: Les Timmons CCHA President Dear Affiliate Presidents, It was with great deliberation that the decision was made to cancel the 2013 Finals Show to be held in Olds, June 6, 7 & 8, At entry deadline, May 15, only 21 entries were received at the CCHA Office. We decided to wait until the 20 th, the Monday after Silver Slate show, to give Connie a chance to phone members, which increased the entries to 66 by Monday night. Timing number of large shows, together with the cost of travel, entry fees, etc. I believe all factored into the low entries. Last year we had 130 entries, (after starting with 18 at entry close-off), and only after Connie s persistent phone calls, we got the entries up to 130. At 130 entries, the CCHA still lost $5, With increased sponsorship this year, it might have been possible to break even at 120 entries, but not at 66 entries, we would have had to raise the entry fee by $ We only had 3 entries in the Open and no Non-Pro entries. It appears that without the support of all of the trainers, their Non-Pro/Amateur clients do not enter either. It also appears that a portion of the membership has been telling us for several years that they don t want the Finals Show. This show was never meant to declare a Canadian Champion; winners were to be The Finals Show Champion. The Canadian Champion is the year end High Point horse and/ or rider. Perhaps the Finals show should have been declared the Canadian Champion, with no year end awards, then maybe this show would have meant more to all members. The CCHA Executive will decide how to proceed with the 2013 funds collected from each Affiliate, which were to go towards the 2013 Finals. Les Timmons, CCHA President Once again the Susan Stewart Memorial Clinic held at Zirnhelt s was a great success. There were 29 riders under the excellent instruction of Wendy Magrath, Rick Hook, Lee Poncelet and Bob Zirnhelt. Each rider got to work cows for 3 days with a jackpot on the last morning, followed by more cow work. At the end of the clinic, awards were given out for the most improved female rider Sonja Braaten and most improved male rider Murray Heagy. The food was fantastic and many thanks go to Janet Cant who organized and cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner, Mary Lynn Zirnhelt for her excellent lasagnas and Clare Goodland who provided us with lots of delicious baking. Nobody had to go hungry there was plenty of food!! Without the time donated by each trainer this clinic would not have been a success, all the riders came away with a lot of knowledge! A wise person recently said: Chill and watch the kids movie Frozen and listen to the theme song Let It Go, otherwise, go get a job as a greeter at WalMart A FEW RULES TO REMEMBER IN THE BCCHA A competitor must show a minimum of five (5) times to be eligible for any year end awards. At BCCHA shows there must be at least 2 entries in a class to make the class run. At CCHA and NCHA shows there must be three entrants to make the class run. When two or more fresh cattle regular classes are combined on the first day of a two day cutting, the order will be reversed on the second show day. Jackpot and used cattle classes will always follow the fresh cattle classes and regular classes. 2 HANDED NOV/NOV Rider and Horse have earned less than $500 each, rider must use 2 hands and can rein through run, must use ring snaffle. $500 LIMIT RIDER Rider has earned less that $500 in any Cutting events, can ride any horse, must ride one handed and all other judging rules apply. $500 RANCH HORSE Any Rider, Horse has earned less than $500 in any Cutting events, one handed, can stop on ends and all other judging rules apply. NEW: BC JACKPOT Shows DO NOT have payouts, but contestants will receive points according to the BCCHA payout points schedule. NEW: Weekend memberships are available for $20 per weekend. 6 BCCHA MATURITY, CLASSIC/CHALLENGE JUNE 26-28, 2014 RULES: Each rider may show as many horses as they desire. Draws according to NCHA rules. Scored by NCHA Rules and SAM System in effect. Open and Non Pro entered and run separately. Two goes and finals. Champion and Reserve Champion of each Division will be determined by final work. First place tie monies will be paid as won, work off for trophy. Payout in Open and Non Pro in all divisions will be 25% each go round, 50% in Finals. Payout according to CCHA payout. Five monies paid in each go and five monies paid in finals. Finals Top 3rd of class plus ties to Finals minimum of 5 horses to Finals or one third of the field of entries to a maximum of 15 horses. Finals are sudden death. Entries must be received by June 19, 2014 No refunds. Substitutions will be allowed with a Vet Certificate. Entries and prize money in Canadian Funds. Proof of age must accompany entry. All owners and riders of nominated horses must be NCHA & BCCHA Members. Disputes will be dealt with by the Aged Event Committee. The Committee retains the right to accept or reject any entry and also disqualify any entry for actions of misconduct. Any disqualified entrant will receive no refund, fees, or purse monies.
