1 Dear 4-H Families, Ravalli County 4-H News MSU Extension educates our community on a broad scope of programming. This upcoming month, we have the opportunity to host Dr. Marsha Goetting, Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist with MSU Extension. Perhaps you are more focused on other things right now 4-H record sheets, livestock animals, camp applications so take this quick questionnaire: June 2018 What s Inside 4-H Calendar & News 2 4-H Events 3 4-H Meetings 5 Reference Information 7 Where do you want your property to go after you pass away...immediate family, distant relatives, or charities? If you don't have a will, Montana Law determines who receives your hard earned assets. Ask yourself: If I should die before tomorrow: What would happen to the property I ve worked so hard to accumulate? Who would care for my minor children or aging parents? Would my spouse and children be provided for in a fair and equitable manner? Would the family business continue? Would the estate settlement be conducted by someone with my family s interests and needs in mind? Would estate taxes, probate fees and other administrative and legal costs be held to a minimum? It may be difficult to talk about these questions, everyone wants to ensure their loved ones are taken care of after their passing. Even if you don t own an oil empire, chances are you have some type of property an automobile, home, savings account or mutual funds. Most people don t know that the wording on those accounts, titles or deeds could determine who receives the assets they ve worked so hard to acquire. Or that they can receive up to $10,000 in tax credits for contributing to a Montana endowment. Come to the upcoming workshops on Wednesday, June 13, Legacy Planning: Caring for Your Family and Community, taught by Dr. Marsha Goetting. There are three opportunities to attend: Stevensville: St. Mary s Museum Basement Meeting Room, 9:30-11:30 AM Stevensville: St. Mary s Museum Basement Meeting Room, 2:00-4:00 PM Hamilton: Daly Leach Community Room, 1010 W. Main St., 6:30-8:30 PM Dr. Marsha A. Goetting will answer questions and also explore how you can simplify your estate planning with payable on death designations (PODs), transfer on death registrations (TODs), and other beneficiary designations. Dr. Goetting will also highlight the Beneficiary Deed law that allows a Montanan to pass real property without probate. Registration is free.
