1 The Road Apple Spring Is Here at Last!! Let s Saddle Up and Ride!! After a spring of unprecedented wet weather, when trail rides, clinics and threats of an equine virus pandemic, and even our first gymkhana had to be cancelled or rescheduled, the arrival of real spring weather is a welcome invitation to get the club s schedule of summer activities underway. (LEFT) Club riders rally for the Mother s Day trail ride at Snell Valley Ranch. See the Revised Clinic Schedule on the Calendar on Page 2 Clinics are for PVRR Members only and are provided at no charge. Normally held on second and fourth Wednesdays, 5:30 pm, at the Arena unless otherwise noted. It is still a wonderful place to check out your horse with the registered name. My Carlos registered name is Highlands Candy Man, so if you need a registered name to see how this works, try it. I love it. Thanks to Sherrilyn Roth! Trace Your Horse s Family Tree From Sherrilyn Roth I found a cool website for researching equine pedigrees. It is found at If you enter a registered horse s name, it will show 5 generations. Click on the 5 th generation name and presto, you get 5 more generations. I was able to trace my mare Paloma s sire line clear back to one of the three founding Arabian stallions of the Thoroughbred breed. She is Oldenburg, but her sire line eventually goes back to a Thoroughbred, the breed historically used to refine the native coach horses into riding horses. I did the same for my neighbor s Quarter Horses whose lines can be traced to one of the three founding stallions. They are all related if you go back to the 1700 s! The website explains that Pedigree Online s All Breed pedigree database consists of more than 1,400,000 horses from around the world to cover all breeds of horses. If this is your first time visiting the site, you can pull up the pedigree for any horses in the database by simply entering its name in the form above and clicking the Horse Query button. For more about using this site or reading pedigrees, make sure to check out the Help menu. Parts of this site are free, while advanced options and features require you to be a subscriber.! PAGE 9
