1 2018, August 15 th Hello Everyone, ' Free Dress Friday for Farmers This Friday the 17 th we will be doing a Free Dress/Dress up day for the Farmers. Students can bring in a gold coin donation. They may dress up as a farmer or wear free-dress to school. Nail Polish & Jewellery Nail Polish and jewellery are not a part of the school uniform. Students may wear a signet ring and a pair of sleepers as jewellery. Other than this, Jewellery should not be worn to school. No Tuckshop A reminder - there will be no tuckshop this week due to Camp Draft. There will be no tuckshop next week due to lack of volunteers at Main Campus. Social-Emotional Focus: Prosocial Behaviours Prosocial behaviour is any action a person takes to help another person. It includes sharing, helping, protecting, comforting, showing affection, and giving encouragement. It always involves giving up something like time, safety, or even concrete things like money for the good of someone else. Here are some examples of prosocial things you can do for another person: Saying something to cheer her up If he is in pain, reminding him of the good things in his life Listening to her talk about what s bothering her without judging Reassuring him that it s okay to feel angry or sad Reminding her that it s okay to express her emotions Helping him figure out what to do to make a situation better Many people find that the more they give the more they practice prosocial behaviour the better they feel just from the act of giving. Miss Leah Mullane - Principal Important Dates: August Camp Draft 20 August Arts Council Visit 26 August Optiminds 6 September Kite Flying Workshop Greetings from Year 3/4 Our term has started in earnest in all subject areas. Year 3/4 are enjoying being material scientists discovering properties and characteristics of materials. In particular, getting their hands dirty when describing a mystery substance. In English, students are examining Traditional Stories. They are determining author s purposes and the audience for each that they read. Children have planned a retell based on the story of Girawu the Goana and presented it orally to the class. I was very proud to see the effort demonstrated; especially those who find it difficult to speak in public. In Maths rotations, students are busy practising new concepts in fractions and operations. The class is also finding how subjects sometimes overlap. For example, in HASS we are learning about scale on maps, which is also covered in Space in Maths.
2 . **************************************************************************************************************** P&C News We have a brand new Facebook page "Swayneville State School P & C", detailing the weekly tuckshop menu and other P&C news. Please like this page to keep updated on what we're up to and how you can be involved. Blue Mountain Campdraft catering event 17/18/19 August Once again, thank you so much to everyone who donated items for the "Campdraft Fever" donation drive. Congratulations to the Prep/1 class for gathering twice as many items as the other classes. In total, there was a huge amount of food and drinks provided including: cans of Soft drink, 24 water and 142 poppers (= $800 profit) - 1kg pineapple, 4.7kg spaghetti, 5kg baked beans, 11kg beetroot, 16L custard L of both tomato and BBQ sauce (which is more than enough to last the weekend!) and so much more! Not only do these generous donations add to the overall profit from this fundraiser, but it saves a lot of work in buying items in the weeks leading up to the Campdraft weekend. This year, we didn't need to purchase any softdrink, beetroot, custard, sauce, salt, tea/milo/coffee, paper towel, washing up liquid - because it was all donated by the incredible families at our school. So, a very big THANK YOU to everyone! With the Campdraft fast approaching, here are some last minute messages about our major P&C fundraiser. If you have already committed to providing a slow cooked meal, baking or desserts, then THANK YOU! All your effort is appreciated by not only myself, but all the Campdraft competitors who get to eat it. If you are providing a hot meal for Friday night - slow cooked meals (eg. honey mustard chicken, curried sausages, beef stroganoff) are served on the Friday night. These meals are served with rice. Please provide your slow cooked meal in a slow cooker to the school by 3pm on the Friday, which will then be taken to the Campdraft grounds and served for dinner. All slow cookers are returned to the school the following week. If you are providing baking for sweets and desserts - your choice of hot/cold dessert (eg. apple crumble, sticky date pudding, cheesecakes, trifle) and any smoko delights (eg. biscuits, slices, cakes). Gluten free options are more than welcome. Please bring these items to the school either in the morning, or before 3pm and leave them in the school staff room. There is a fridge and freezer in the school staff kitchen if needed. Please ensure all containers, lids, and each part of your slow cooker is named. There will be white masking tape available at the school in the staff room kitchen for this purpose. Also, if you are able to bring meals and baking from the Main campus up to the Campdraft grounds on the Friday afternoon, please let me know. Thank you very much, please contact me if you would like any more information. Loren Hauwert / / loren_jane@hotmail.com

4 After-school policies Due to health and safety concerns, we have tightened after school policies at the Main Campus. As of this week: No children should be in the playground area after the school bell has rung. Students all need to be waiting for their parents in the undercover area. Any students not picked up by 3.15 will wait in the office. Students must be with a parent when walking through the car park. The car park double gates will be locked. Students must exit through the gate at front of the school. Arts News Dear Parents and Carers, I m very excited to be back at Swayneville Main Campus this term to teach Dance. The students seem to be keen to get back into the arts as well. This term, each year level group has a unique focus as the base of their Dance Unit. The 5 s and 6 s are focusing on creating a dance based on Australian and Asian landscapes; the 3 s and 4 s are learning how to tell a story through dance; and Prep, Year 1 and 2 s are working on creating a dance based on some of the shapes they ve been learning about in class. The amount of enthusiasm and excitement that the kids consistently bring to class is very encouraging and I can t wait to get to see what new exciting ideas the kids have when we get into choreographing our dances in the coming weeks.
