4 President s Welcome On behalf of the committee I would like to welcome you to this year s Rabobank National Merino Sheep Show and Sale. If you haven t visited us in recent years you will notice the up-beat, positive vibe. With many new additions there s something new for everyone involved with merinos. Dubbo has truly become a National event. The Sheep Show has grown another 70 exhibits on last year s show and we are expecting a good roll up of competitors with about 700 sheep on display at Rabobank Dubbo National Show and Sale. We know you like talking to the studs and seeing their displays. We attract most major industry players with a wide variety of first-class genetics on display from over 60 Merino and Poll Merino Studs. We sell rams, which make some of the highest prices in Australia, but also have plenty of quality rams at affordable prices. Last year s average sale price was $6,000, and prices start at $1,000. Bromar will again give away a feeder to the purchaser of the top priced ram. If you buy a ram and have it shorn you could win $2,000 cash if your new ram is judged with the highest commercial value. The Farm Expo offers a one-stop-shop for rural goods and services. We should support businesses that support our industry. If you visit an Expo site, you could win $500. This year the Farm Expo has also incorporated a Rural Photo competition which has been generously sponsored by photographer Kate Barclay, Barclay Livestock Management Services and photographer Noni McCarthy, SixtybyTwenty. The AWN fleece show is a highlight with almost 200 entries last year, making it a record year. People can donate their show fleece to our charity, The Shepherd centre, which specialises in teaching deaf children to speak through their world-class Auditory-Verbal and cochlear implant program. If you aren t able to donate a fleece perhaps you can see the Farm Expo and support the Shepherd Centre barbecue. The Flock Ewe competition, for the commercial producer, offers excellent prizes with cash and a drafting module available to win. Jemalong Wool and Clipex are sponsoring this competition. The School Wethers, and Junior Judging competitions are giving the next generation a wealth of experience, and encouragement to join our industry. Last year saw over 170 Junior Judging competitors. This year, we will also run a 1½ Junior Judging workshop for the students with assistance from the ASC and Ben Watts who we would like to thank for their time. I would also like to thank Trevor Pearce for assisting with muscle scanning and the AWI shearers and wool handlers for assisting in shearing the school wethers and objective measurement sheep. I hope to see you all at the Australian Wool Innovation cocktail party and fashion parade, where the highly coveted Australian supreme Ram will be awarded. 9 Rabobank Australian Supreme Merino Ram Rabobank Australia Ltd Dubbo National Sheep Show and Ram Sale. This is a National Competition for Merino and Poll Merino Rams, embracing the Grand Champion from each State Sheep Show in Australia. The final of the competition will be judged during the Rabobank Australia Ltd Dubbo National Sheep Show and Ram Sale Cocktail Party on Wednesday, 24th August, The winner of the final receives $5,000 cash and a trophy to the value of $1,000. Travelling expenses as apportioned to the following States: WA and TAS $1,500 each; SA, VIC and QLD $1,000 each. Conditions 1. The Stud Merino Breeders Association of each State is to nominate, to the Dubbo organising committee, a Ram, including Shearing Tag Number, to be drawn from their nominated sheep show. In the case that for some reason the Grand Champion Ram of the Show cannot attend the final, the ribbon, prize money and right to compete is handed to the Reserve Grand Champion Ram. This procedure can continue until a competitor who is able to compete in the final is found. A stud cannot substitute a nominated Ram. 2. State winners are to receive an award ribbon at the nominated Sheep Show. A cash prize will be awarded at Dubbo when the respective rams are presented for final judging. Should a State winning ram not be present at Dubbo, the owner forfeits the prize money, which in turn will be returned to the sponsors. 3. The six finalists can be of any age, August or March inspection shorn, owned and bred in the State in which they are shown by the exhibitor. 4. Interstate nominations cannot be shown in single classes through the Rabobank Dubbo National Sheep Show, however, they can be included in group judgings. The interstate rams will be displayed in pens in a separate area. 5. All finalists shall have an AWTA measured test. The sample is to be taken within three months of the event. The histogram of this test is to be displayed above the ram when penned. 6. The winner of the Rabobank Supreme Merino Ram must remain at the Showground until 10am on the Thursday,unless through prior consultation with the President of the Association. All entrants should note that they may compete in only one Group Final anywhere in the State as a competitor for a place representing a Group at the State Final. Competitors can enter other Group Finals, but only for practice and must disclose to the organiser at the time of entry that they are not eligible for a placing in this event. The top two eligible placegetters at NSW SMBA - Dubbo Group Final will receive $125 donated by the NSW SMBA towards travelling expenses upon attendance at the Sydney Royal. 14 Dubbo wants your Merino Ewes The Rabobank National Merino Sheep Show and Ram Sale is holding its Commercial Ewe Competition supported by Jemalong Wool and Clipex Win a $1,650 Drafting Module (Champion Pen) Total Cash Prizemoney of $900 This is a competition for paddock sheep only. Sheep that in the judges opinion have been shedded or rugged will be disqualified. Three consecutive wins by an individual team would exclude them for one year. Sheep must remain in their pens until the conclusion of the sale. Details: Judging is for a pen of five ewes 2 tooth and under. Entries to be submitted and paid for by 1st August 2016 Entries penned by 9am August 24, 2016 Competition open to flock breeders only. People who sell rams not eligible. Ewes will be judged in either a Short Wool or Long Wool section. The sheep will compete in either superfine/fine or medium/strong wool. Judges decision will be final. 63 Micron Figures The micron figures for all sale rams were obtained from samples taken in May and August under the supervision of NSW SMB Councillors. Micron figures are a guide only and should be used as such. They do not necessarily tell how an individual ram will breed. Rams tested are in full show feed and micron results can be expected to show stronger figures than would be expected under natural conditions. The Comfort Factor is expressed as a percentage and is defined as the proportion of fibres which have a diameter of less than 30µm. Research has shown that wools with a Comfort Factor of 95% or greater (ie. less than 5% of fibres greater than 30µm) can be comfortably worn against the skin. A wool with a Comfort Factor of 100% contains no fibres greater than 30µm. The Spinning Fineness is expressed in microns and provides an estimate of the performance of the wool when it is spun into yarn. The Spinning Fineness is calculated from the measured Mean Fibre Diameter and the measured Coefficient of Variation of Fibre Diameter. The Spinning Fineness is the same as the Fibre Diameter when the Coefficient of Variation (CV) is 24%. Wools with a CV of less than 24% will have a Spinning Fineness less than the Fibre Diameter. The Mean Fibre Diameter, the Standard Deviation of Fibre Diameter, and the Coefficient of Variation of Fibre Diameter are values that have been measured by AWTA Ltd using Laserscan instrumentation. The Comfort Factor and Spinning Fineness are values that have been calculated using formulas that have been derived from research studies. The are not values that are directly measured by AWTA Ltd and care should be taken in their use. The Standard Deviation is a statistic that summarises the way diameter results from individual fibres are spread around the Mean Fibre Diameter. It measures the absolute distribution of fibre diameter either side of the Mean and is expressed in microns. Sixty eight percent (68%) of fibres fall within a range one Standard Deviation either side of the Mean, and 95% of fibres fall within a range two Standard Deviations either side of the Mean. For example a wool with a Mean Fibre Diameter of 20µm and a Standrad Deviation of 4µm will have 68% of fibre snippets between 16.0µm and 24.0µm and 95% of fibre snippets between 12.0µm and 28.0µm. The Coefficient of Variationis a measure of the relative distribution of fibre diameter and is expressed as a percentage (%). It is calculated by expressing the Standard Deviation as a percentage of the Mean. For example a wool with a Mean Fibre Diameter of 20µm and a Standard Deviation of 4µm will have a Coefficient of Variation of ( ) x 100 = 20%. Where the Vendor reserves the right to bid at the auction in respect of a lot and instructs the auctioneer to make more than one bid on his behalf, the auctioneer shall, prior to submitting the lot for sale by auction, announce in a clear and precise manner the number of bids reserved by the Vendor in respect of that lot. 5. A bidder shall be deemed to be a principal unless, prior to bidding, he has given to the auctioneer a copy of a written authority to bid for or on behalf of a person. 6. As soon as practicable after the fall of the hammer, the Purchaser shall sign the agreement (if any) for sale. 7. No person shall be entitled to bid unless prior to the commencement of the sale he has, if requested, made arrangements satisfactory to the selling agent for the payment for any ram which may be sold to him. 8. The purchase money for each ram shall be payable in cash to the Vendor s agent on the fall of the hammer. Delivery shall take place as soon as practicable after the auction. Subject to anything specifically to the contrary contained in the Special Conditions of Sale for Export. The auctioneer may at any time before or during the auction require any person wishing to bid for any ram to deposit with him the whole or any part of the auctioneer s estimate of the purchase money. 62 RABOBANK NATIONAL MERINO SHEEP SHOW & RAM SALE 00

65 9. The risk in each ram purchase shall pass to the Purchaser immediately upon the fall of the hammer whereupon the Purchaser shall be responsible for the safety and well-being of the same. Property in the ram shall notwithstanding remain with the Vendor until the purchase price has been paid in full. If the Purchaser is given possession of any ram prior to payment of the purchase price, the Purchaser shall be in possession solely as bailee for the Vendor until the purchase price is paid in full and until such time, the Purchaser shall not deal with the ram in any way inconsistent with the title of the Vendor. 10. For so long as any part of the purchase monies shall remain unpaid, the Vendor or his agent shall be a liberty to repossess any ram and for that purpose to enter upon any lands or premises of the Purchaser and to hold that ram at the Purchaser s risk and to resell the same with or without notive by public auction or by private treaty in such a manner as the Vendor may determine and the Purchaser shall be liable for all losses and expenses arising our of any such resale and agrees to indemnify the Vendor and the Vendor s agent in respect thereto. 11. Subject to anything specifically to the contrary contained in the following Special Conditions for Sale for Export all conditions and warranties expressed or implied by law including those created by any statute except the conditions and warrantieds that may apply pursuant to the provisions of the Trade Practices Act (1974) are hereby excluded and subject as aforesaid, each ram is sold with all defects, faults, diseases or imperfections, if any, whether the same may be discoverable by inspection or not and the Vendor shall not in any way be liable for any loss or damage that may arise of result from such defect, fault, disease or imperfection or any error or misdescription of any ram sold or otherwise and no representation made by the auctioneer at the time of the sale shall bind the auctioneer or the Vendor. Special Condition - Retention of Semen Rights by the Vendor 12. This condition applies when the Sale Catalogue or the Agent announces prior to auction of any Lot that the Lot is subject to the Vendor retaining any rights to the semen of the Lot. 13. Semen rights means any right to semen reserved to the Vendor including the right to market the semen. 14. The Vendor will display inwriting before the sale or in the sales catalogue or in a prominent place, the Vendor semen rights terms and conditions. 15. The Purchaser warrants that the Purchaser understands, agrees to and accepts the semen rights terms and conditions. 16. The Purchaser achknowledges that if the Purchaser breaches the semen rights terms and conditions the Vendor may be able to recover damages from the Purchaser. 17. The Vendor hereby releases the Agent from any liability, claim or action whatsoever howsoever arising in relation to the sale of the Lot and the Vendor semen rights. 18. In the event of any dispute between the Vendor and Purchaser regarding semen rights, neither the Vendor nor the Purchaser will not join the Agent as a party to the dispute. 19.
