1 2014 Colorado State Fair JUNIOR MARKET GOATS DIVISION 1 DEPARTMENT 935 Entry Fees: $15.00 per entry Entries Close: Friday, August 8 th Cancellations: Friday, August 15 th Arrival of Goats: Wednesday August 20 7:00 a.m. thru Wednesday, August 20 8:00 p.m. Exhibitors Meeting: Thursday, August 21 8:45 a.m. Ear Tagging and Inspection: Thursday, August 21 9:00 a.m. Weight Declarations: Thursday, August 21 st 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Showmanship: Thursday, August 21 2:00 p.m. Show: Friday, August 22 2:00 p.m. Grand Champion Selection: Friday, August 22 8:00 p.m. Begin Release: Friday, August 22 9:00 p.m. All non-sale Jr. Market Goats must be out of the barns by Saturday, August 23 9:00 p.m. LIMITED TO FOUR (4) GOATS PER EXHIBITOR Each properly entered Jr. Market Animal Exhibitor shall receive one (1) complimentary 5-day Youth Pass. COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS: (subject to change without notice) 1. All entrants for livestock exhibited in Open, Breed or Market competitions shall provide a premises identification number at the time of entry. 2. All entrants must have read and be familiar with the Colorado State Fair General Competition Requirements, General Livestock Competition Requirements, Junior Livestock Sale Participation Requirements and Health Requirements. Exhibitors must comply with the Wholesome Meat provisions. 3. All Jr. Market Goats must have been previously ear tagged with a county ear tag and a complete nomination card with a profile picture of the animal and the exhibitor or a retinal scan attached, received in the Colorado State Fair Livestock Office as of June 1, Any exhibitor that did not nominate their animal will not be allowed to show at the Colorado State Fair. If the original County ear tag is not properly intact on animal at the time of arrival, exhibitor must notify General Superintendent at check-in. Goats will be retagged after arrival by the exhibitor/adult in charge of the animal with official Colorado State Fair ear tags that match the Colorado State Fair entry number. The Colorado State Fair will furnish the ear taggers. Do not remove official county ID tags or Scrapie Premise ID tags. 4. Female (does) or wethers are eligible to be shown in the Jr. Market Goat Show. Does are required to have the proper scrapie identification. There is a minimum weight limit of 55 lbs and a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs for goats.
2 5. All Jr. Market Goat entries must be made on a CSF Market Entry form. All entry changes must be final before Aug. 15 th. No substitutions or late entries will be allowed upon arrival at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. All market entries must have a COOL form attached to their entries. All required market entry forms may be downloaded from this section of the Premium Book. Certificates of Veterinary Inspection must accompany all goats and be made available to animal health officials and/or show management upon arrival. Refer to Health Requirements. 6. Market animal exhibitors may enter as many animals as they have previously nominated, HOWEVER, only 4 animals are allowed to be shown in any Market division. Payment for only 4 animals must accompany entries. The exhibitor must notify the Colorado State Fair office which animals will not be shown by the cancellation date of Aug. 15 th. If the animals you are NOT showing are NOT cancelled by Aug. 15 th, the exhibitor will be charged the initial entry fee for those animals. No substitutions or late entries will be allowed at check-in. 7. There will be no official weigh-in of Jr. Market Goats in Scales will be available for the exhibitors use until the deadline for turning in the weight nomination form. An official weight nomination form must be obtained by the Exhibitor when the animal is ear inspected on Thursday, August 21 st at 9:00 a.m. The official weight nomination form must be turned into the Livestock Office no later than 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21 st. The weight(s) indicated on the weight nomination form will be the official show weight. There will be no changing of weights or breeds after the weight nomination forms have been turned in. 8. By signing the weight nomination form, the exhibitor agrees to all CSF rules and regulations, as well as all provisions of the Notice of USDA Wholesome Meat Act which will be included on the weight nomination form. All violations will be reviewed by CSF management. 9. After each class of Jr. Market Goats has been placed, the top five animals will be weighed on the official scale by show officials. Jr. Market Goats cannot deviate more than 5% above or below the its declared show weight as previously designated by the exhibitor on the weight card. If any Jr. Market Goat is weighed out, it will be disqualified and the remaining animals will be moved up in placing. The disqualified Market Goat is not eligible for any other class and will not be reweighed. 10. Jr. Market Goats must be carrying all milk teeth in normal positions. Goats showing either or both of the first pair of permanent incisors will be disqualified. All goats will be required to have horns tipped blunt, no sharp points allowed. All goats must be shorn slick (with no indication of blocking) to the skin above the knee and hock joints, excluding the tail switch before official weigh-in. NO electric clippers will be allowed in the barn after inspection. 11. Jr. Market Goats can use only rubber mats, netting or shavings for bedding; no straw, kitty litter or other absorbent material is allowed.
3 12. There will be no outside bedding allowed on the State Fairgrounds. The Colorado State Fair Management is making it mandatory for all exhibitors to purchase their animal bedding through the Colorado State Fair Feed/Bedding Concessionaire. If you choose to violate this rule and bring your own bedding, you will be asked to remove it from the grounds immediately! This rule will be strictly enforced by the Colorado State Fair Management team. 13. Stalling area must be cleaned prior to Exhibitor receiving an official release. 14. A water container, with water, must be visible and available for watering on a regular basis in each penned/stalled area at all times. NO feeding or watering of livestock in show rings, holding pens or to and from re-weigh stations will be permitted. Colorado State Fair Officials reserve the right, at its discretion to contact a CSF veterinarian to determine if water should be given. 15. Due to limited space NO tack pens will be available. All items such as feed, show boxes, trimming stands, etc. are to be placed in areas designated by the Superintendents. Any of these items placed in pens may be removed without warning. DO NOT take pens apart, leave as assembled. Exhibitors may bring plywood for the top of their pens for storage. 16. Exhibitors only are allowed in the goat holding or staging areas during show hours. 17. Goats must be shown without hairdressing compounds including oils, paints, powders, artificial coloring, or other dressing. All Jr. Market Goats must be shown with a collar. Jr. Market Goat exhibitors may use meshed or plastic muzzles at the Colorado State Fair. The muzzle style must allow the goat to drink water. 18. All breeds and/or crosses will show together. Classes will be separated by weight. In all Jr. Market Goat classes, the front feet of the goat must remain on the show ring floor while being shown. Judges and Superintendents will have discretion to enforce disqualification. 19. If an exhibitor would happen to have all four (4) of their animals in the same weight class all premiums will be paid to that exhibitor. 20. Show ring placings will be through 10 th place only. All other exhibitors will be excused from the show ring before the judge announces the top 10 places for that class. Ribbons to 6 th place only. Premiums will be paid thru 10 th place in classes consisting of 15 head of more (refer to premium scale). 21. Champion and Reserve Champion of each weight division will compete for Grand and Reserve Grand Champion. The Champion and Reserve Champion in each weight division (lightweight, medium weight, and heavy weight) and the remaining 1 st and 2 nd place goats (not to exceed a total of 25 goats) will sell in the Colorado State Fair Junior Livestock Sale. Those exhibitors that have two or more sale qualified animals will only be eligible to sell (1) one animal. 22. This show is a terminal show only for the Jr. Market Goats that are selected for the Junior Livestock Sale. Animals not selected for the Junior Sale will be released to the exhibitor after the final sale order is posted. There will be a buyback consignment offered through the Colorado State Fair. Trucking and handling fees will be deducted from proceeds on sale and buyback animals only.
4 23. All exhibitors are responsible for the care of their own animals until such animal has been released or is sold at the Junior Livestock Sale. 24. If an exhibitor makes sale, exhibitor and his/her family must be familiar and comply with all Junior Livestock Sale Participation Requirements. Classes are limited to exhibitors with Junior Market Goat entries. Exhibitors must show their own animal. 3. Three age divisions are offered with exhibitor age considered as of December of the past year. 4. The judge will consider appearance of the animal, showmanship ability of the exhibitor and the exhibitor's appearance, courtesy and knowledge. 5.
