1 2012 Colorado State Fair OPEN BOER GOATS DIVISION 14 DEPARTMENT 930 Entry Fee $10.00 per entry Entries Close: Monday, Aug. 6 Cancellations: Monday, Aug. 20 Begin Arrival: Wed., Aug. 29, 5:00 pm In Place: Thurs., Aug 30, 8:00 am Show 1: Thursday, Aug 30, 1:00 pm Show 2: Friday, Aug 31, 10:00 am Begin Release: Completion of Show All Out: Friday, Aug. 31, 4:00 pm The Colorado State Fair Boer Goat Shows are sanctioned by the American Boer Goat Association. COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS: 1. All entrants must have read and be familiar with the Colorado State Fair General Competition Requirements, General Livestock Competition Requirements, and Health Requirements. When applicable all association rules shall apply. 2. All exhibitors must purchase an exhibitors pass, see Entry Information section of this Division. 3. All entrants for livestock exhibited in Open, Breed, and Market competitions shall provide a premises identification number at the time of entry. 4. There will be no outside bedding allowed on the State Fairgrounds. The Colorado State Fair Management is making it mandatory for all exhibitors to purchase their animal bedding through the Colorado State Fair Feed/Bedding Concessionaire. If you choose to violate this rule and bring your own bedding, you will be asked to remove it from the grounds immediately! This competition requirement will be highly enforced by the Colorado State Fair Management team. 5. Entries must have tattoos, both left and right ears, indicated on the entry forms. NO EXCEPTIONS 6. Pre-entry and Entry Fee are required. Colorado State Fair Open Livestock entry forms must be made for each animal, per class, (indicate Show A and/or Show B on entry sheet). Entries must be sent directly to the Colorado State Fair Livestock Office and be postmarked on or before the above entry date. Participants are responsible for their own errors and those of their agents in preparation of entries, there will be no refunds on exhibitor entry mistakes.
2 7. A photocopy of registration papers must be submitted with each entry. Entries will be returned if this requirement is not met. Original papers must be available for inspection upon arrival. All animals must be entered in the name of the registered owner and must have been owned by the exhibitor on or before July 20 th. Proof of ownership shall be the name on the registration document. The base date for computing ages for entries shall be the date the animals are to be judged. Registration certificates are required for all animals over the age of 3 months. 8. Animals must be registered purebred, fullblood or percentage blood Boer goats. Percentage Doe classes are for goats 50% to 88% Boer; Fullblood classes are for does that are 15/16 blood (94%) and higher and 31/32 blood (97%) and higher for bucks. PROGENY OF FRESH DOES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE RING. 9. All animals showing in group classes must have been shown in their respective individual classes. Only one premium will be awarded in group classes. The Champion and Reserve classes will be chosen from the first and second place animals in the division of the show. 10. Every goat must have legible tattoo(s) or other means of permanent identification consistent with its registration certificate or the animal will be disqualified. The top 6 in the class plus Champion and Reserve tattoos must be read as placings are recorded. If the animal has a microchip as its permanent identification, the exhibitor is responsible for providing a microchip reader. 11. Birth dates, as listed on the registration certificate, will be used to determine the class divisions. 12. All Boer goats must be broke to lead. At the discretion of the judge and the superintendent, goats may be let loose in the ring as a function of judging. Heelers will not be allowed in any classes. 13. Does and Bucks are allowed on the grounds. No animals will be allowed on the grounds unless a class is provided for them and the animal is regularly entered in that class. NO EXCEPTIONS. 14. Any goat showing any pronounced defect or abnormality will be barred from the show and asked to leave the grounds immediately. Artificial coloring, illegible tattoos, and tattoos inconsistent with registration papers will result in disqualification. Animals are to be shown in natural conformation and color. Grooming materials leaving any kind of residue are not permitted.
3 15. Any doe over 24 months of age that has not kidded and cannot prove a current pregnancy will not be allowed to show. 16. All Boer Goats must be appropriately identified and comply with USDA Scrapie Eradication Program Guidelines to have individual identification for Scrapie premise ID tag. 17. The Breeders Herd class will not require pre entry or an entry fee. 18. There is no limit to the number of animals an exhibitor may enter in this show or in any one of these classes. Premiums will be paid in accordance with the premium schedule listed in this division.
