Market Goat exhibitors are encouraged to utilize sound biosecurity practices upon departure from the Colorado State Fair; recommended biosecurity procedures are available in the Livestock Office. 2. Once the sale goats have been determined, those animals will be moved to a showcase area designated by the Livestock Superintendents. The Colorado State Fair will provide each exhibitor with two (2) bags of shavings for use in the new stalling area. 3. Goats must be shown without hairdressing compounds including oils, paints, powders, artificial coloring, or other dressing. All Market Goats must be shown with a collar (no pinch collars, pronged chains, or training collars allowed). Halters are not allowed in the show ring. Market Goat exhibitors may use meshed or plastic muzzles at the Colorado State Fair. The muzzle style must allow the goat to drink water. 4. Female (does) or wethers are eligible to be shown in the Market Goat Show. Does are required to have the proper scrapie identification. There is a minimum weight limit of 55 lbs. and a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs. for goats. 5. All entrants for livestock exhibited in Open, Breed or Market competitions shall provide a premises identification number at the time of entry. A valid premises identification number shall be defined as the premises where the animals are housed during the duration of any 4-H/FFA project. 6. Market Goat exhibitors must be full-time residents of the State of Colorado at the time of nomination and remain a full-time resident through the end of the annual Colorado State Fair and Industrial exposition. For purposes of these rules, a full-time resident is someone whose primary residence at the time of nomination and through the end of the Colorado State Fair and Industrial Exposition is within the borders of Colorado; someone who has not lived outside the state of Colorado for more than two consecutive weeks from the time of nomination through the end of the Colorado State Fair and Industrial Exposition, and who has an active membership in a Colorado 4-H or Colorado FFA program.
2 7. Market Goat exhibitors must provide primary care to their livestock. Livestock nominated for the annual fair must reside within the state of Colorado from the time of nomination until the completion of the Colorado State Fair and Industrial Exposition. Livestock that spend more than two consecutive weeks away from the premises identified on their Nomination Form, whether inside or outside the state of Colorado, between the time of nomination and the end of the annual Colorado State Fair and Industrial Exposition are not eligible to participate in the Jr. Market Livestock Shows. 8. Exhibitors must comply with the Wholesome Meat provisions. 10. IRS AND COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE COMPLIANCE: In order to comply with the Colorado Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service tax-reporting requirements, a properly completed IRS form W-9 will be requested when premium and/or sale amounts due to any one exhibitor exceed $ The W9 must list the exhibitor s Social Security Number. Premium and/or sale checks will not be released by the Colorado State Fair until a requested W9 form is received. 11. All Market Goats must have been previously ear tagged with a county ear tag and a complete nomination form with a retinal scan attached, received in the Colorado State Fair Livestock Office as of June 1, Any exhibitor that did not nominate their animal will not be allowed to show at the Colorado State Fair. If the original County ear tag is not properly intact on animal at the time of arrival, exhibitor must notify General Superintendent at check-in. Goats will be retagged after arrival by the exhibitor/adult in charge of the animal with official Colorado State Fair ear tags that match the Colorado State Fair entry number. The Colorado State Fair will furnish the ear taggers. Do not remove official county ID tags or Scrapie Premise ID tags. 12. The exhibitor and a minor exhibitor s parent/guardian must also complete the Quality Assurance Certificate which will be turned in at time of market animal inspection (one for each species). Exhibitors should disclose all treatment and/or additives given to any market animal prior to arrival at the Colorado State Fair and Exposition. 13. In the event a market animal exhibits clinical signs of a contagious or infectious disease after it has arrived at the Colorado State Fair s fairgrounds, the exhibitor of the animal (or the exhibitor s parent, a superintendent, or member of State Fair management on behalf of the exhibitor) must contact a Colorado State Fair veterinarian for an assessment of the animal, and if deemed appropriate, for treatment of that animal. If the veterinary diagnosis is that the animal s clinical signs are not due to a contagious or communicable disease, the animal may remain on the fairgrounds and be exhibited upon approval of the veterinarian. If the affected animal needs medication, the veterinarian will manage the animal s treatment at the exhibitor s expense. The veterinarian must document the treatment in the exhibitor s packet. Exhibitors whose animals have received medications at the veterinarian s direction while at the Fair and that have qualified for the Junior Livestock Sale shall disclose all medications administered to determine whether any withdrawal time for said medications used to treat the condition exceeds the withdrawal time according to the medication s product label for that species. If an animal is treated with medications while on the fairgrounds, either by a Colorado State Fair veterinarian as set forth above or by any other party, and if the withdrawal times for the medication(s) administered exceeds the product s label then in such instance, the Colorado State Fair Authority shall have the right, but not the obligation, to take possession of or slaughter the animal if deemed necessary. In the case of slaughter, Colorado State Fair Management will determine the procedure for slaughtering said animal. If at any time during, prior to, or following the time of the market animal inspection, it is discovered that an animal has received medication in connection with any treatment occurring prior to arriving at the Colorado State Fair s fairgrounds for the Colorado State Fair, and if, according to the medication s product label, the withdrawal time for any such medication used during said treatment surpasses the date upon which the market animal inspection occurs, that animal will not be eligible to compete at the Colorado State Fair, and the Colorado State Fair Authority will have the right, but not the obligation, to order that the animal be removed from the Colorado State Fair s fairgrounds.
