1 National Goat Expo Show Rules The NGE board and all show superintendents reserve the right to interpret these rules, settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising from or connected to the National Goat Expo. Any exhibitor who violates the rules will forfeit all privileges and be subject to penalties expulsion from the show and premises. All Iowa State Fairground rules will also apply to exhibitors, vendors, committee members, as well as board members. Food Vendors selling goat meat and goat milk products are allowed to have booths and vending locations at the National Goat Expo, you will need to pay for the booth location for outside or inside if small enough, for the size you will need, plus there will be a small additional commission charged by the fairgrounds for you having the food vending booth. This commission will be charged by the fairgrounds and not the NGE and will have to be set up with them. There are pens located in the sheep barn and swine barn. There are 451 pens in the sheep barn and 1206 pens in the swine barn, and 200 pens in the south side of the swine barn with wire pens. There are 6 different show rings: 2 in the swine barn, 1 in the sheep barn, and 2 in the covered arena, and 1 in the south side of the swine barn where the wire pens are located. These rings will be used daily. There will be accessible wash areas. Bedding will be sold for pens in the form of shavings available on sight unless a local straw vendor is found. Straw may be used for bedding for all Fiber Goat Pens, we ask that most other breeder please use shavings, but if desired you can bring your own straw for bedding, again we will only be selling shavings on sight, so if planning on using straw you will need to bring what you will need. You can bring your own pine bedding if you wish, but some will be sold at the NGE. Hay will not be sold on the premise, so please bring the amount of hay that will be needed for your goats, unless we can find a hay vendor close to the fairgrounds that will be a vendor. Clean feed and water pans is a must, if they are not clean you will be asked to buy some from the goat supply vendors. Camping is available on the fairgrounds in the camping locations, but livestock is not allowed at the trailers while camping. Please see the website or Iowa State Fairgrounds website for further information pertaining to camping. These showing events are for all goats registered with their specific association in which they will be showing, except for those breeders and 4Hers and FFAers that will be only showing in the 4H and FFA shows. No registration papers are needed for the 4H shows. All other shows and sanctioned events, you will need registration papers to show your goats and all tattoos must match the registration papers. All goats 3 months or older must be registered with their particular association. Animals under 3 months of age must have a stamped duplicate or faxed application stamped by the association with the date received. There is NO limit to the amount
2 of animals an exhibitor may enter in the association shows, but there will be a limit in the NGE Market Meat Goat Show and showmanship shows. All Registration certificates at check-in must be the originals, no copies will be accepted. If showing in commercial goat shows or nonregistered grade shows, a scrapie tag is a must and must be in the ears of the goats, they will also need to have health papers noting these tag number, these will be check. All entries must be postmarked by August 25 th, 2012 to get the $7/ goat/show for each doe and buck showing in each shows; it will be $4/wether/show entered. All entries postmarked between August 25 th, 2012 and September 25 th, 2012 will be $14. Any postmarked after September 25 th, 2012 will be $20. Entries that come in at the gate will be $20. The exhibitor is responsible for bedding/shavings that will be available for purchase at the NGE. Straw will be allowed to be used especially in the Fiber Goat Pens, straw will need to be brought from home as a vendor has not been located to sell straw at the show. All animals will show by age according to their registration certificates and the date of the show taking place. The show chairman, board, and committee members reserve the right to combine or split classes as needed if numbers of entries are not met to meet sanction. Substitutions will be allowed in the same class ONLY. Substitutions must be made the day prior (24hours) to the show and all substitutions are final. The NGE is in no way responsible or liable for any action of any goat at any time during the expo. Actions include, but are not limited to, animal escaping from stall or handler, animals coming in contact with one another (including breeding), or animals coming in contact with people. At all times the owner and/handler are responsible and liable for their goats.. Health Requirements: All official certificates of Veterinary inspection/ health certificates for all goats in-state and out-of-state will be required to have a health certificate no more than 30 days old. All goats will be checked over by veterinarians and trained staff on hand when goats are being checked in. Any goat that fails to pass the vet check will not be allowed to show or stay in the pens at the fairgrounds. All animals will be checked over for any suspicious marks, bumps, lesions, etc. There will be a location for sick goats to be placed, in their own pen and those pens will have a charge associated with them of $13 for the week. NO GOATS will be allowed to stay in the trailers in the parking area or anywhere in the fairgrounds unless arriving after 10pm, they will have to be checked in early the next morning. A veterinarian will be walking through the barns daily to check/look over the goats. All goats being sold at the NGE will have to have TB and Brucellosis testing within 90 days of the event. All goats just coming to the NGE for exhibition only will need their vets to write on their health certificates and it to
3 state The goats listed are for exhibition only and NOT for resale. They must say this on them or fees may apply by state officials that will be coming to the show and checking things over for this event. ALL Goats showing in commercial, non-registered classes will have to have health certificates as well and these goats MUST have a scrapie tag in the ear and this tag number needs to be noted on the health paper. ALL Goats showing in these commercial or non-registered shows will ALL have to have health papers within 30 days of the show both instate and out of state. LIABILITY: The EXHIBITOR is liable for any damages to his/her livestock or equipment that may occur and also for the safety of his/her own goats. The National Goat Expo assumes no responsibility for any damages. If any animal is a threat to the public the animal will be removed from the NGE. Poor sportsmanship (as determined by show superintendents, show chairs, board, and committee members of the NGE) will not be tolerated. The judge s decision is final and should be respected. THE NGE is also not responsible for any damages done by any goat or action of any goat that occurs at the NGE. The NGE is in no way responsible or liable for any action of any goat at any time during the expo. Actions include, but are not limited to, animal escaping from stall or handler, animals coming in contact with one another (including breeding), or animals coming in contact with people. At all times the owner and/handler are responsible and liable for their goats. ALL BREEDERS THAT ARE THINKING OF BRINGING BUCKS, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM, IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE THEM OR KEEP THEM IN YOUR CONTROL, LEAVE THEM AT HOME. Check- in of all Goats Check in for goats begin at 9-10am on Sunday for all goats not doing the milk test and will continue through the week starting at these times. All goats will need to be checked in by 7pm and no later than 10pm with notice of being later than 7pm, the night before they show. If the exhibitor is running late and will not be there by 7pm a phone call is needed and a priority with all of the information for the exhibitor and goats being shown, so that the goats will be shown in their sanctioned events and not scratched. Any goats that arrive after 10pm will have to stay in the trailers until the next morning to be checked in, but a phone call the night before is needed so that the goat is not scratched from the show. Please call Check-out of all Goats Goats will be allowed to leave after their breed association event is completed and all is done for that breed/show for the day. If needing to leave sooner, it will need to be arranged with an NGE staff member. After all showing is complete with all breeds for the day those goats may be taken out of the fairgrounds and allowed to head home.
4 Number of Goats per pen Depending on the size of goats, breeders will only be allowed to have two to four goats per pen. If showing four full grown Boers for example, breeders might have to have two pens depending on the actual size and the pen location if bringing 3 animals. Nigerians will be allowed to have up to 4-5 full size animals in the pens. There will be two barns in which the goats will be housed for the event. The first barn is the sheep barn containing 451 stalls/pens. The other barn being used will be the swine barn, which contains 1206 stalls/pens and the south side of the swine barn has 200 pens/stalls. Bedding for goats will be provided on site for purchased in the form of shavings at the NGE. Straw can be used as bedding in the Fiber Goat Pens, we ask that you please bring your own as we will not have a vendor to sell the straw there. Feed and water pans must be clean when entering and must remain clean during the course of the week. Breeders must keep an eye on their goats throughout the day, the National Goat Expo Association will not be held responsible for goats getting loose and running through the fairgrounds or any other issue that can arise with the goats getting sick, hurt, or lost. Food and water must not be withheld from any of the goats during the day or night. Cost per pen per day will be $13.00 per pen for the week. All standard dairy goats will be in one locations, Miniature dairy goats including Nigerians in another area, Miniature Silky Fainting goats in another area of the barn, and Pygmy Goats will be in this barn in another location. Boers and other meat goats will be in Sheep barn. Some dairy and miniature breeders also have boers and those as long as they are well mannered will be kept with their dairy goats or miniatures in the swine barn. There will be bucks at the NGE and they will stay with their breeds and either Standard size of miniature area/locations. If breeders are needing to have Llama pens put up and placed for their bucks this will need to be noted on the entry form and those will be at $25 per pen as we have to rent them and set them up specifically for whoever will need them. Remember if you have bucks that cannot be handled then please be curtious to others and leave them at home. If you have bucks that are jumpers or are mean and cannot be handled please leave them at home. The NGE will not be responsible for any goats getting loose or jumping gates/stalls and breeding other does. That is the responsibility of the buck owner to take care of these things if they should happen. ALL BREEDERS THAT ARE THINKING OF BRINGING BUCKS, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM, IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE THEM OR KEEP THEM IN YOUR CONTROL, LEAVE THEM AT HOME.
