3 Overview The Boorowa Show Society s 125 th Annual Show was held on the 1 March A popular event of the Annual Show is the Boorowa Shearing Competition, the event draws a consistent crowd throughout the day. The general public are mesmerized by the way shearers can make it look so easy, keeping the sheep under control and focusing on each blow, whilst local farmers eye off the quality of the sheep and the talents of individual shearers. Regular competitors use the time to catch up with work colleagues, swapping stories and giving guidance and support for young up and coming shearers and wool handlers. Stewards of the 2014 Boorowa Shearing Competition are Robert Croker, Brent Armour and Perc Gorham. They have been involved with the event for many years and have a great relationship with not only the local shearers, but also the judges, sponsors, contractors and farmers. The competition consisted of seven events: Learners, Intermediate, Senior, Open, Local, Wool Handler and Quick Shear. The day is a full day commencing with the first draw at 8.30am and the day is concluded about 5pm with the presentations. First 6 (six) placegetters will receive prize of cash and/or goods to the value specified, and Sash. 1 st - $300, 2 nd $200, 3 rd - $150, 4 th - $100, 5 th - $80, 6 th - $50 3. SENIOR EVENT Entry Fee: $30 - Open to shearers who have not won an Open Event or more than 5(five) Senior Events. First 6 (six) placegetters will receive prize of cash and/or goods to the value specified, and Sash. 1 st - $300, 2 nd $200, 3 rd - $150, 4 th - $100, 5 th - $80, 6 th - $50 4. LOCAL EVENT Entry Fee: $20 - Open to shearers resident in Boorowa Shire. First 4 (four) placegetters will receive prize of cash and/or goods to the value specified, and Sash.

LEARNERS EVENT Entry Fee: $20 (Learners Entry fees will be paid for by AWI) - Open to shearers WITH LESS THAN 12 MONTHS EXPERIENCE. First 4 (four) placegetters will receive cash prize and Sash 1 st - $250, 2 nd -$200, 3 rd $150, 4 th - $ NEIL CHOWN MEMORIAL TROPHY - will be awarded to the best Local Learner 8. LOCAL JUNIOR WOOLHANDLING COMPETITION Entry Fee: Free - open to residents 18 years and under from the Boorowa Shire area. Sponsored by AWI 1 st - $100, 2 nd - $80, 3 rd - $50 9. BOOROWA MERINO BREEDERS ASSOCIATION "QUICK SHEAR" EVENT Entry Fee: $10 First 3 (three) placegetters will receive cash prize and Sash 1 st - $200, 2 nd -$120, 3 rd - $80 Minimum of 6 entries, *Time - Major Fault Disqualified. If less than 6 entries, held at discretion of Chief Steward. The Shearing Competition will be conducted under the rules laid down by the Australian National Shearing Association (ANSA). All shearers compete at their own risk. All competitors pay at the gate.

6 Conduct of Competition The 2014 Boorowa Shears is conducted under the rules of the Australian National Shearing Association (ANSA). Boorowa uses a rotational judging system involving 4 judges, while running 2 stands. Scores are recorded on both a pen and board sheet, that are then added up to give an overall score. These score sheets are available to the competitor after the presentations and shearers are encouraged to ask questions of judges on how to improve for future events.
