3 General Information and Sale Notes Location The Show and Sale will be held at Rugby Farmers Mart, Stoneleigh Park (Royal Showground) Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, CV8 2LG. From the North West: Leave the M6 at J2, following signs for Warwick (A46). After joining the A46 from the A45, take the exit signposted Stoneleigh NAC. Follow roadside signage to the Stoneleigh Park showground. From the North: Leave the M1 at J21, following signs for Coventry (M69). At the end of the M69, follow signs for Warwick. After joining the A46 from the A45, take the exit signposted Stoneleigh NAC. Follow roadside signage to the Stoneleigh Park showground. From the South: Leave the M40 at J15, following signs for Coventry (A46). After approximately 8 miles on the A46, take the exit signposted Stoneleigh NAC. Follow roadside signage to the Stoneleigh Park showground. On arrival at the Showground turn immediately left before you reach the Gatehouse and go through the gates with the RFM sign. Order of Events Friday 2 August 4pm Inspections commence. All cattle must be on site by this time and be forward for inspection to be eligible to show and sell. Saturday 3August 09.30am Show commences, followed by Young Handler competition 12.30pm Sale commences 6.00pm All cattle must be removed from site by this time Method of Sale All registered cattle will be sold in Guineas (105p) Transfer Fees A transfer fee of 10 plus VAT ( 12.00) per lot is payable by both the vendor and the purchaser before pedigree certificates can be transferred Settlement and Clearance of Stock Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of the Sale. No animal may leave the premises without official documentation obtainable from the Auctioneers upon settlement. Pre-movement testing As from 1st March 2007 all cattle over 42 days of age from 1 or 2 year testing areas must have passed a TB test within the last 60 days. Cattle coming from 3 or 4 year testing areas are exempt. 5 6

4 INSPECTION PROTOCOL All animals entered for the Show and Sale will have to pass through an official veterinary inspection. This gives confidence to buyers that the animals have been passed as fit for sale and alongside the rules and conditions of sale agreed by the industry through the National Beef Association ensure that buyers purchase guaranteed stock. All animals will be checked by a veterinary inspector for eye defects, over or under-shot jaws and general health. In addition bulls will have their testicles measured and will be checked by hand for any irregularities in form or texture. Similarly, females' udders will be checked for abnormalities. Society appointed inspectors will then assess bulls and females for locomotion, temperament, conformation and breed characteristics to a Society standard. Eartags will also checked by an official representative and must be accurate and legible. Any bull or female that fails the inspection cannot be shown and may be offered for sale only at the Auctioneers discretion. Explanation of registration terms Animals entered in the Full Herd Book and registered before 2000 have four figure registration numbers ie Animals entered in the Full Herd Book and registered from 2000 onwards have a five figure registration number followed by the year letter and the herd number of the breeder ie 11111/H0999. Animals birth notified with the Society but not yet registered have a five figure number preceded by either XB or BN ie XB For a fuller explanation of terms please contact the Longhorn Cattle Society Office. All cattle must be fully registered within the Society s official time limits. 2. Cows no longer suckling their calves must have been weaned at least two weeks prior to the Sale 3. Pedigree certificates and entry fees must be submitted with the completed entry form. 4. All cattle must be entered by the registered owner or their agent. Membership fees of the registered owner must be up to date. 5. The Society reserves the right to refuse or restrict entries if it is felt necessary, at the closing date for entries. 6. Cattle entered in the Premier section must be halter led and subject to inspection as detailed in the catalogue 7. Cattle entered in the Premier section which fail to satisfy the inspector may be offered for sale at the Auctioneer s discretion. 8. Only animals which are entered into the Premier section of the sale may also enter a presale show, although they will not be obliged to do so. 9. The pre-sale show will take place in a ring. Animals must be halter-led when shown & sold. 10. Any prize money awarded in any Show will be paid out by the Auctioneer along with the proceeds of sale. 11. The Premier sale will take place prior to any unofficial sale, and animals will be sold in age order with the oldest first, females followed by bulls. 12. Vendors have the right to place a reserve price on any or all of their cattle. This must be notified to the Auctioneers in writing, preferably before the commencement of the Sale and will be treated as a reserve and not a guide. 13. All transactions either by Auction or by Private Treaty following the Sale must be passed through the Auctioneer s sale office. 14. All registered cattle will be sold in guineas with a commission rate of 5%. 15. Each animal forward at the Sale must be exposed for sale by Auction before any private sale shall be permitted or recognized by the Society or the Auctioneers. 16. The vendor must present for sale by auction any animal catalogued for sale. Where animals catalogued cannot be brought forward a like for like substitution can be made up to 48 hours prior to the start of the sale. Should a substitution be made then a veterinary certificate should be submitted for the withdrawn animal and a fee will be payable for the entry of the substitute animal. 17. Any vendor not bringing cattle for sale on the day should provide a veterinary certificate for the absent animal or will be subject to a fine of when entering a subsequent Longhorn sales. The Society shall reserve the right to refuse entries at subsequent Longhorn sales. 18. All cattle sold will be subject to a transfer fee of payable by both the vendor and the purchaser. 19. All sales are held subject to the Special Regulations as printed in the Sale schedule and also to the LAA Conditions of Sale and the Auctioneers General Conditions of Sale. 20. All lots will be covered by the NBA Terms & Conditions of Sale incorporating the bull breeding warranty and female breeding warranty 21. Draft consignments may be considered, to be inspected on-farm before acceptance. These cattle will be sold after the Premier sale and should be haltered. 22 TB testing - All cattle over 42 days of age from 1 or 2 year testing areas must have passed a TB test within the last 60 days. Cattle coming from 3 or 4 year testing areas are exempt. Cattle coming from Wales and Scotland must abide by their respective devolved body regulations. 23. Initial straw will be provided but vendors must provide their own feed, buckets etc.. All cattle to be double tied. 34
