2 Welcome to the 7th Annual Northern Classic As one welcomes you to the 7th annual Northern Classic sale we cannot help wonder about the cattle industry and the state that it is in. With record numbers of cows hitting the slaughter plant we know that this industry will take a 180 degree turn in a very short period and the demand will be high again with that shortage in the near future, resulting in record calf prices once again. One thing that remains true is us as breeders need to stay committed and focused on carrying forward with our programs to be able to continue to supply the industry with the best possible genetics. Our sale offers genetics to get you there as we know the importance of every pound gained is dollars in your pocket at the end of the day this is why we remain COMMITTED TO YOU OUR CUSTOMERS. The Northern Classic bull sale has had a couple of changes over the past year with bringing Willow Creek Simmentals into the sale; the Klassens are good reputable people with an outstanding program who stand behind that program. One thing remains the sale is at the Same Place, the Same Time as usual with the same good quality bulls that you expect of the Northern Classic as we are COMMITTED. With that said we have a very good selection of bulls, whether you are looking for calving ease, performance or bulls with maternal traits this group of bulls should have something to offer to you. Jaydawn Farms have added the Mike Klassen family as a part of this annual event. With the exit of Kimlake and 4L, the Northern Classic has become one of the main sources of both purebred and commercial bulls in northern Alberta. Both the McQuaig s and the Klassen s are true family purebred operations where all family members share the duties and the accomplishments of the livestock endeavors. McQuaig s and Klassen s were exhibitors at the recent bull congress with very acceptable results. The bulls at the congress were judged by cattlemen just like yourself and it certainly should be of comfort to you knowing these two programs were very well received. All the bulls have been developed under very practical conditions and will come to you in the ideal condition to go out and breed cows yet continue to develop at this young age. As in the past the offering will consist of red, black and Fullblood Simmental bulls as well as a group of Charolais bulls from the Jaydawn program. I strongly encourage you to call Jason or Mike and discuss your herdbull needs. Bulls become the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold and must carry insurance to qualify for Terms. All bulls must have their registration papers transferred to same owner. Health and Fertility All bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over twelve months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs. 100% Guarantee All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchased of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows. Heated Sales Barn Attend the Northern Classic and take advantage of the sale, the 4-H show and all the festivities involved with the trade show. The Northern Classic Sale will take place in a heated sales facility as well. Page 3 Bull Development Option The Northern Classic consignors will keep the bulls free of charge until the early part of April. Bull buyers need to insure the bulls while cared for by the consignors. Delivery Option A Bulls can be picked up at Evergreen Park on sale day and a $50 discount will be deducted from purchased price. Delivery Option B At the buyers option and risk, the bull can return to JayDawn or Willow Creek and delivered anywhere in the Peace Country Region at no charge to central locations. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard. Delivery Option C Bull can return to JayDawn or Willow Creek and be picked up anytime before April 15th at the buyer s convenience. Sight Unseen Purchase Program We still offer the personal touch given, as when our bulls were sold on the farm. Contact us and we will personally go over the bulls, your program and your needs. If you are unable to attend the sale, we will recommend you to contact one of the sale staff, who will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner. Heifer Approved Throughout the catalogue you will see bulls pointed out as individuals that could be used on heifers with minimal or no calving troubles. EPD Explanation EPDs are Expected Progeny Differences. They are a useful tool in selection. EPD incorporate the individual animal with its ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds; they are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull s progeny. He is out of the calving ease bull Bravado and a Dynamite Black cow that enhances the maternal and performance of Brave. Brave calves are very consistent and are like peas in a pod. He left us an outstanding set of bull calves that are very moderate, thick, extra hair and excellent testicle development. His females are developing into moderate thick heifers with true brood cows in the making. This bull will increase your performance in your calf crop without jeopardizing calving ease. This cow family has calving ease and longevity built in. 31W has a little more performance than some of the other sons. Dynamite worked well on 42L. The mating with Showcase proved to be a good one here. This bull has lots of potential no matter what kind of herd he goes into. Out of a young cow that we purchased from the Kimlake Dispersal, only one problem I did not come home with the granddam to 69W the 372N cow, my mistake my loss. 610S appears to be following her mother s footstep with producing those high performance calves, mated to the good Ward bull at Kimlake has clicked. At weaning he tipped the scales at 1000 lbs. In the first week of January he was named the Cattlemen s choice Champion Bull at the Peace Country Beef Congress.
