2 Family Scarecrow Contest When: Saturday, September 23 Where: Livestock Arena Contest Begins: 2:00 p.m. 1. This is a family competition, limit 4 members; at least one must be a youth under the age of 18. Only one scarecrow per entry, no MULTIPLES. 2. T-form approx. 5 ft in height, with an arm span of three ft. will be provided. Some preparations may be done prior to contest (e.g., decorating scarecrow s head), but scarecrow must be assembled using t-form as the skeleton. Hay will be furnished for stuffing the scarecrow. 3. Old clothes may be used but purchased costumes are PROHIBITED. Scarecrows should be creative, mischievous, or humorous; frightening entries will be disqualified. No weapons or items that could be used as weapons are allowed. Items around the base should be limited due to relocation. 4. Scarecrows may be displayed outside after contest and accessible to the public. Decorations should be weather-resistant. The Fair is not responsible for loss or damage to any items used in display. 5. Use of dried, non-perishable ag products such as gourds, dried corn, peanuts, etc should be used. Fleshy products that may spoil should not be used. 6. Electricity will not be available. Nothing may be permanently attached to the scarecrow frame; no permanent modifications may be made to frame. 7. All entries will be on display during the remainder of the fair. All decorating materials must be picked up after the fair on Sunday, October 1st between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. Any materials remaining after that time will be discarded. THE T-FRAME IS THE PROPERTY OF THE NEWNAN KIWANIS CLUB AND MAY NOT LEAVE THE FAIRGROUNDS. 8. Entries will be judged on creativity and originality (20 points), use of plant materials (20 points), degree of difficulty (20 points), observation of rules (20 points), and overall appearance (20 points). 9. Contest is limited to a maximum of twenty (20) entries. Entries are first come, first served and application must be received by September 9, Time limit for contest will be 30 minutes. 3 Terry Quigley Chief Ranger - Coordinator Lumberjack & Lumberjill Competition When: Saturday, September 23 Where: Livestock Arena On Site Registration: 6:00 p.m. Contest Begins: 7:00 p.m. 1) This contest is open to adults only (16+ years) and includes a women s division. 2) Competitors are required to sign a harmless agreement prior to competing in the event. 3) Winners of each event will be assigned points as follows: 1st place - 5 points; 2nd place - 3 points; 3rd place - 1 point. 4) The order of events will be as follows: Men s Division Women s Division a) Crosscut Saw - One man a) Crosscut saw One woman b) Log Roll b) Log Roll c) Pulpwood Toss c) Pulpwood Toss d) Pole Climbing d) Pole Climbing 5) The lumberjack/lumberjill with the most points at the end of the competition will win the Lumberjack/Lumberjill of the Year trophy and an additional $100 in prize money. 4 Coordinated by Debbie Barronton Gingerbread House Decorating When: Sunday, September 24 Where: Exhibit Hall Check-in: 3:00 p.m. Begins: 3:30 p.m. Gingerbread Houses will be judged in groups as follows: Pre-K - 1st grade 2nd -4th grade 5th - 7th grade 1) This contest is open to any youth grades Pre-K through 7th. 2) Pre-registration is due at the Coweta County Extension office by Friday, September 15, Only 20 applications will be accepted. 3) Supplies will be provided by Newnan Kiwanis Club, Inc. 4) Judging will take place directly following competition. 5) Gingerbread houses will be judged on creativity and quality of work. 6) Time limit will be 30 minutes. 5 Coordinated by Debbie Barronton Adult Creative Birthday Cake Decorating When: Sunday, September 24 Where: Exhibit Hall Check-in: 6:00 p.m. Begins: 6:30 p.m. This contest is open only to adults who are residents of Coweta County. There are two separate categories. (Please select your decorator status as either a professional or amateur by checking the appropriate box on the entry form). Professional: Make cakes for a living or collect monies for your cakes Amateur: Decorate cakes for a hobby only, must not collect monies for cakes Contestants will design a baked cake based on the following: Cakes do not have to be baked from scratch. Using a box mix is allowed, but the cake must be baked by the contestant, not store bought. Cakes can be any shape (round or square) but cannot be any larger than a 9 x 13 baking pan size. No more than two layers will be allowed (for practical reasons!) The judges will judge the appearance and decoration of the cake. Bring cake baked and all the supplies needed to decorate. All judging decisions are final and shall be based on the following criteria: Creativity of cake design 35% Appearance 35% Technique 15% Use of materials 15% In case of a tie, tied entries will be re-judged in accordance with criteria listed above to determine final winner. 6 Coordinated by Debbie Barronton Youth Creative Birthday Cake Decorating When: Monday, September 25 Where: Exhibit Hall Check-in: 6:30 p.m. Begins: 7:00 p.m. Cakes will be judged in groups as follows: K-3rd grade 4th-6th grade 7th-9th grade 10th-12th grade 1) This contest is open only to children in grades K through 12th. 2) Pre-registration is due at the Coweta County Extension office by Friday, September 15, ) Contestants will design a baked cake based on the following: a) Cakes do not have to be baked from scratch. You are an employee of any national or state beef industry organization or their agents. 1) Steaks will be provided by the Coweta County Cattleman s Association. 2) Preparation time starts at 6:00 p.m. Marinating/seasoning must be complete by 6:20 p.m. and entry must be on the grill by 6:30 p.m. and must be ready for judging at 7:00 p.m. 3) All entries are to be grilled on gas or charcoal grills for the competition. * Contestant must provide his or her own grill. 4) All dishes must be original and owned exclusively by the contestant. 5) Competitors must check in with a coordinator upon arrival. You will be assigned a Competitor Number and provided a form for writing down your recipe or other comments about your entry. 6) Judging will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. JUDGING CRITERIA: Taste 60 points Ease of Preparation 10 points Appearance 30 points 7) By participating, entrants agree to these rules and the decisions of the judges, which shall be final in all matters relating to the Cook-off Contest. PRIZES: Awarded by a representative of the Coweta County Cattlemen s Assoc., in the form of a check, immediately following judging are 1 st Place- $250; 2 nd Place - $150; 3 rd Place - $100 Entry Forms in center of booklet 21
